Nationwide - It would be better to take your premium…
It would be better to take your premium and put it in a savings account. They don’t pay out nearly enough to make it worth it, and they basically steal your money while your pet dies. I paid a $215 monthly premium over a 6 year period which amounts to a little over $15k. When my pet had a major medical emergency and passed away, her medical bill came to $2800. They paid less than 40% of that bill. With all due respect, SCREW that!
Nationwide - I cancelled this plan in April 2025
I cancelled this plan in April 2025, but have not received a refund.
Nationwide - The rep hung up on me
The representative hung up on me. I called to ask about insurance for my snake who HAD a respiratory infection, which has since been resolved. He told me it counts as a pre-existing condition and I would not be able to submit a claim for a respiratory infection for six months, but tried to get me to sign up anyway for "other possible reasons to go to the vet". When I explained that there were no other reasons I'd need to take my snake to the vet, and asked what the point would be in signing up now, rather than waiting six months, he hung up on me.
Nationwide - MAKE SURE YOU GET WHAT YOU SIGNED UP FOR
The coverage I signed up for is not what I have coverage for. Make it make sense. Why would I sign up for injury/illness and not wellness. I only signed up so I could have her wellness coverage since shots and meds are not cheap. I added the injury/illness because before insurance my dog ate somethings she shouldn't have. So, I decided to pay extra to add it. I filed my claims and now they tell me I Don't have wellness.
Nationwide - Look Elsewhere To Insure Your Furry Friend
I received a letter cancelling my 9 1/2 yoa rottweiller’s insurance after being a customer through 2 dogs over 19 years. The letter stated that they were no longer going to be insuring dogs in my state because of the rising costs for healthcare of dogs in the state. This has been found to be an outright lie after speaking with friends that I referred to Nationwide. I also attempted to insure a made-up puppy to see if it would be accepted for insurance - it was.
During the life of my dog’s coverage before cancellation the premium rose over several hundred percent. Nationwide was able to stay in the black cash flow. Attempts to secure comparable insurance on a 9-1/2 year old dog with pre-existing conditions is totally impossible.
Nationwide - "Preexisting condition"
I adopted my latest shelter dog in August 2024, needless to say she was a mess and the vet noted she would benefit for some anti-anxiety meds as needed to settle her, due to her trauma of long distance transport (24 hours in a crate). This was in September 2024
After some behavior training that was working along with the first "short term" antianxiety, the vet advised switching her to long term therapy, this was October, same month that I applied for insurance which occured AFTER the insurance kicked in.
Now because she had the short-term therapy as needed (the firs med is only given as needed) first, to get her settled in, the long-term therapy is now considered a "preexisting" condition.
Wow, Nationwide, seems a bit slight of hand to me and quite frankly, considering it is 10.00 a month that you will not reimburse, tells me all I need to know about how much you "care". I will be dropping you ASAP. Apparently Nation wide is NOT on your side.
Nationwide - Pending Refund …
I took out this insurance on the 2nd of May and still haven't received the policy. I'm getting ready to ask for my money back. It has been a week.
Nationwide - Another Failed insurance company…
I have had Nationwide for over a decade. My pomeranian will be 13 in September- If he makes it.
He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure at the beginning of 2025. His six medications are now at $300. Per month.
For the last several months Nationwide has paid zero. Z150 excuse you know- your pet has exceeded the limitations in the policy. At $210. Per month for Nationwide pet insurance, what am i paying for? A cytopoint shot now and then?
I hasten to add: my dog needs these medications to stay alive.
Nationwide also paid less than half of his total cardiac workup, echocardiogram, doppler, blood pressure and blood work and 2 follow up appointments doctors said he needed back in March.(with a prominent Southern California cardiology firm.)
My premiums have gone up EVERY year since my dog was a puppy. What a surprise that was- even in some years where there were few or no claims.
THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A YEAR IN WHICH NATIONWIDE PAID OUT MORE THAN I PAID IN. They have made money on me since 2013.
Now that my priceless companion is failing, NATIONWIDE is not there for him.
They wont be there for you either when the going gets rough. Either go with another company, - or better yet, SELF-insure.
Nationwide is but another example of the sad state of health insurance in America today.
