I have had coverage with my dog since I brought him home 9 years ago. Apparently the coverage lapsed last year because I pay by the year not the month and it was not automatically taken out. I did not know this until today. Very poor customer service in my opinion. They should have notified me more than once that the coverage was lapsing. They said they sent 1 letter which I never received or I would have immediately called and renewed it. I feel like they were trying to get out of covering him.

Nationwide - I found out my dogs coverage had lapsed…
I found out my dogs coverage had lapsed 2 months ago on 2-28-25 not from Nationwide but from Walmart when I tried to get a discount on his prescriptions. I was told a letter was mailed when my credit card payment was denied 1-28-25 but I did not receive it. My card had been compromised so I missed changing this auto payment to Nationwide. You’d think Nationwide would want to email me and let me know of this payment error to keep me as a customer. But no email was sent nor was a phone call made eventhough you have all that info. I’m shocked I didn’t even get a notice to re apply. This could’ve gone on for months. Since I wasn’t notified I did not have a chance to reinstate my old policy. Now I have to reapply and wait for 2 weeks to make sure my dog is covered. Very poor way to treat a valued customer. I’d like to be reinstated without waiting.

Nationwide - Website issues and features
- My personal information (email address) did not update.
- The website is not very friendly. Building a coverage plan is very complicated, especially when trying to get identical coverage on a 2nd pet to our already covered 1st pet.
- The only way I could get a cheaper price ("save money on a 2nd pet") was to go with lesser coverage for the second pet. When I tried to get the same coverage as the first pet the cost for the 2nd pet was more expensive and the 2nd pet is younger and smaller than the first pet (seems counter intuitive).
- I couldn't find a way to add more or subtract coverage from one or the other pet once the application for the 2nd pet was accepted.
- It took 4 times completing the information and clicking Submit before I received the acknowledgement email (at the old email address) that the 2nd pet application was accepted.
Nationwide - Unexpected coverage drop
My coverage was dropped 40% due to "discontinuing my current plan" that I have had for years. I was told the plan had subscribed to didn't exist anymore and I couldn't be grandfathered in and no other plans existed unless I cancelled and reapplied in which I would be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions. I did add another dog to my plan before I found this out, and she is on a different plan with 30% more coverage than my dog, who was just dropped by 40% coverage. So another plan does exist, but I'm not eligible for it even though it's still less than the plan I was on for years. I used to recommend Nationwide to all of my animal contacts and through my network of training, rescue, adoption, Veterinary, grooming and shelter clients.

I was not able to purchase the same medical plan that my other 2 dogs have.
