Delta Dental - Delta Dental not accepting debit or credit card, only wants checking or savings account info. Is that sus?
What kind of company does this where they don’t accept my debit or credit card for monthly premiums. They will do checks, but still.
Nationwide - Which Pet insurance or stash money for “healthy” older dog?
Hi all!
I have a 13 year old German shepherd mix Pitbull grandpa baby with no pre existing conditions.
I took him to the vet recently and it looks like he may have signs of arthritis at his back legs.
Aside from that he is relatively healthy and has a few years strong(hopefully)
My question is whether to continue my current insurance with nationwide or switch to something relatively cheaper/better or stash cash.
I recently used it for his visit and they only covered 70 % of the visit, vaccine was not included and I have a 250 deductible.
My premium is about 200 a month.
My family and I think aside from emergencies and possible end of life care we’re not sure if the premium is worth it.
Any advice is deeply appreciated!
Highmark Blue Cross Community PPO - Denied coverage 1 week before surgery
I am scheduled for surgery next week with a specialist. I’ve waited a very long time to get this care and am chronically ill from my health problems. I received notice from the hospital billing department today that in fact the hospital is out-of-network with my insurance. This is after at least 6 months of appointments at this hospital and with this surgeon’s office. My insurance was billed for the other pre-op appointments. The billing office informed me today that I would have to pay about 49k up front to even be seen by the doctor for the surgery at this point. I pressed both my insurance and the hospital as to how this could happen. According to the hospital billing office, they had my insurance numbers but not my card on file (I’m quite sure I gave them my physical cards at one of my in-person appointments). They said someone had entered the wrong plan into the system (one that was covered by the hospital) and just discovered this. Something feels very wrong to me, not to mention the psychological stress of having been preparing for a hopefully life-changing surgery that is likely to be off the table. I have the option to file an out-of-network gap exception or use another recommended surgeon, but I am enraged that this mistake was made. I don’t understand how the hospital could just now find out that my insurance is out-of-network. Can anyone advise—is this fishy? What might I do to get my surgery next week? My FMLA is approved, my friend paid money to fly to stay with and take care of me, and childcare and meals are organized. I find the whole thing unacceptable but don’t know how to advocate for myself.
My plan is Highmark Blue Cross Community PPO.

Mepco - Dealing with home warranty services Mepco scam
Me and my husband bought a house and got scammed into a home warranty with a company called home warranty services and Mepco in January of this year. Our bank flagged the first charge as fraud but we let it through and decided to go ahead and cancel I was reassured that it was done given a cancellation number and told that a cancellation letter would be on its way in the mail and through email (it never came)fast forward a month they didn't pull anything else from the account thankfully but I get bills and late payment calls saying my payment is late when I answered the calls I explained I canceled over a month ago was reassured by agents that it's over and just to ignore the calls because it's an AI... fast forward to now another month later I get another bill from Mepco and I sign into my account through them and it reads the policy is still active I've emailed home warranty services and plan on speaking to a manager tomorrow but I feel like an idiot for falling for this in the first place what are my next steps if they don't cancel it???
Figo - My experience with Figo
I made my first claim through Figo and wanted to describe the process for those that might find it helpful.
**Overall Thoughts**
Overall, I was pleased with my Figo experience and intend to renew my policy.
Figo covered approximately what I expected it to cover based on my understanding of the policy document.
I submitted three claims in total, one for each of the invoices I received from my vet. My claims were processed and paid in less than 1 week. The process of submitting my claims was straightforward and involved uploading invoices to the PetCloud mobile app.
I was slightly surprised by the fact that out of pocket expenses reduced my deductible only up to my policy's reimbursement rate. For example, the first $100 in covered costs reduced my deductible by $90. This is different from my experience with human health insurance where 100% of out of pocket expenses count towards to the deductible, regardless of what your coinsurance rate is.
**Policy**
I pay a $477 annual premium with the Costco discount. My deductible is $1,500 with a 90% reimbursement rate and unlimited annual coverage. My dog is 3 years old and unspayed. The policy includes rehabilitation but not Vet Exam Fees, Extra Care Pack and Wellness - Plus. My policy has been active for just under 2 years.
**Illness**
My dog had bloody diarrhea, loss of appetite and lethargy on and off over the course of 2 weeks. Total treatment costs, including vet prescribed food totaled $2,540.35 of which Figo covered $317.82. The cause of her illness was never identified.
**First vet visit**
At my dog's initial vet visit, our vet did an exam ($130), prescribed my dog Metronidazole ($26) and tested my dog's stool for parasites ($86). Our vet also prescribed Trazodone ($20) to help with my dog's anxiety at subsequent vet visits. The Figo policy covered the Metronidazole and the Trazodone, but not the vet exam or the parasite test. I was slightly surprised that parasite test was not covered. The denial reason was "Costs or fees for treatments or preventative treatments for parasites or conditions related to parasites unless there is no preventive medication for the parasite..."
Total charges: $262.10
Covered by policy: $46.10
Remaining deductible: $1,500 - (.9 \* 46.1) = $1,458.51
**Second vet visit**
At my dog's second vet visit, our vet did another exam ($130), ordered blood work ($570) and recommended that my dog be hospitalized overnight for IV fluids and observation ($1,388). The vet also prescribed a 5 day course of Metronidazole ($20) and Pepcid ($20). Again, Figo did not cover the vet exam, but did cover everything else, save a $24 "medical waste" charge that was part of the hospital stay.
Total charges: $2,128
Covered by policy: $1,973.70
Remaining deductible: $0
Paid by Figo: Covered costs - Remaining deductible = (.9 \* $1,973.70) - $1,458.51 = $317.82
**Prescription Food**
The vet prescribed specialized GI food for my dog to eat after her release from the hospital ($150). I did not expect for Figo to cover this expense, as the policy document states that food is not covered. I submitted the claim anyway, on the off chance that it might be considered treatment for her illness. Figo denied the claim with the reason reason: "The policy does not provide coverage for food unless included in the Office Visit and Exam Fees Rider prescribed as the sole Treatment for an Illness"
Chase - Help! Accidentally Paid Interest Free Card off.
I have an interest-free card that I used for some remodeling on a property. It is interest-free for 18 months, so I charged all materials and labor to it.
The first payment was due yesterday, and I set up autopay from the property's bank account. The autopay only had one option: "amount due." I naively thought that meant the minimum amount due, not the entire credit card bill.
Well, yesterday, the creditor withdrew the entire amount from the bank account. The funds were there, so it was not returned.
I called Chase (the card issuer) last night when I saw the transaction pending, and they said they couldn't help me since it was on autopay. I called my bank this morning, and they said they can't help me either since it is an ACH. They mentioned that I could possibly dispute it, but that process would take almost two months.
Is there really no way to reverse that charge and pay them the minimum amount due instead? I got the card specifically to avoid impacting the cash flow and had a plan to pay it off while it was still interest-free. I genuinely did not know the amount Chase was going to deduct, it did not tell me when I set up Auto-Pay or anything.
Am I just not talking to the right people, or is there really no way to assist me?
*********
Update: Called Chase again and a manager helped me. She said since I didn’t have a minimum payment due, the option wasn’t there to pay minimum and that’s why I only had the “pay amount due” option.
They are refunding me! And I don’t owe anything till August.
Healthy Paws - Avoid healthy paws
Current policy holder for two animals since 2018. Aside from the constant increase in premiums… now that I’ve begun filing claims they are questioning the breed of the dog and threatening to double my premiums if I don’t validate a large mix breed vs a mix pit bull.
Disgusted.
ASPCA - ASPCA 39% Increase, need advice
My dog has IVDD and hit the $10k annual limit this year. I’ve been paying $178.49/month for 90% reimbursement and a $500 deductible. Now my provider wants to increase it to $248.59/month for the same coverage, which is a 39% increase ($840 more per year).
Has anyone found a provider that covers chronic conditions like IVDD without this kind of rate hike? I’m open to switching if the new insurer doesn’t exclude spinal issues and will accept pre-existing.
