USAA - Separate Car Insurance for Spouse?
My spouse has a pretty poor driving record, we filed two claims last year on our insurance (USSA) and we just filed one today all of which he is at fault for. Last insurance claim we had was on December and it was a total loss. He also has a speeding ticket that he had to go to court for along. Our insurance bill is already $620 per month for two cars. My driving record is spotless, no speeding tickets or any tickets as well. We live in VA.
I have a 2019 ford fusion and my 6 month premium is 1584. He has a 2019 Nissan rogue and his 6 month premium is 2241. We’re also both in our early 20’s.
Would be be possible for him to have his own car insurance and would it be cheaper for the both of us? Right now his car is under my insurance and he’s also an insured driver under me. I also just installed a dash cam to his car a month ago for his protection but it seems like it’s the other drivers on the road that needs protection from him. I’ve already pleaded and begged with him to drive safer and drive defensively.
United Health Care - Question about Premium Increase
Hello. In December 2024 I enrolled in health insurance with United Health care through my employer during open enrollment. Benefits were to begin 1/1/2025 and my premium was to be $54.44. I noticed on my recent paycheck that my premium had more than doubled. I never received notice of this premium increase and only realized it had happened because my paycheck was smaller. I called them and they said the increase was because they "recalculated my information and saw an adjustment was needed." I demanded they cancel my plan, as I had not agreed to this premium. They said I wasn't allowed to cancel until the next open enrollment period with my employer in December 2025. They said they would open an appeal on my behalf and created a ticket, but I’m doubtful it’s going to make a difference, they will likely just reiterate what they already said and not allow me any recourse. Are they allowed to do this? Do I have any options in this situation or do I just have to accept that they can charge me whatever they like throughout the course of the year? I was not aware rates could change mid-policy like this. I am 48 and healthy. I have a nearly $10,000 deductible, and don’t go to the doctor for anything outside of my yearly checkup because I cannot afford to pay for anything out of pocket. I’ve also stopped taking prescribed medication because I don’t want to pay for that out of pocket either, and I can get by without it. It’s crazy to me they’re allowed to do this. Apologies in advance if I have posted in the wrong place.
Progressive - Work Truck on freeway had a rock from it’s trailer hit my windshield (Oregon)
Was driving on the freeway and a ~2 inch rock came out of their un-tarped trailer and hit my windshield at about 65 mph. They did not have a rear license plate visible. Front registration plate was orange and I believe it to be an Oregon apportioned truck plate. I was not able to get a clear picture of their plate.
I spoke to our state police and they gave me a case number for insurance purposes. Went to file a claim with Progressive and it turns out my deductible ($500) is more than replacing the windshield ($388) so they just recommend I pay for it without insurance.
Shouldn’t the other truck’s insurance be paying for this?? I don’t know what to do other than pay for the replacement out of pocket and hope to make contact with the other party’s insurance after the fact.
He wouldn’t stop as I tried to get his attention but I was able to take some pictures… on the side of the rear trailer is a logo for “The Shaw Group” and some sort of identifying number (T1210xx… censored for this post).
Your Insurance Company - Billing primary care as specialist
My primary care provider is a PA with a family practice. I have seen her many times and paid just my office copay. My last visit was billed as a specialist visit and is requiring the specialist copay. My insurance is saying that they consider PA's to be specialists so are billed accordingly but could not explain why every other visit was billed as an office visit. On their provider directory her copay is listed as the office visit one.
I confirmed with my doctor's billing department that they did not bill it any differently so it should not require the specialist copay. I've spent days calling my insurance but every time they "review" the claim they come up with the same answer.
Any ideas on how I can get this fixed?
Nationwide - Nationwide cancelled my pet’s insurance with no notice. Help!
Hi reddit,
Today I found out that my pet insurance through Nationwide expired in October 2024. I received ZERO notice. No emails, no letters, no alerts. I only realized after trying to submit a claim for last night’s emergency vet visit for my dog Walter and saw the policy was not active. I haven’t needed to file a claim since July 2024, so I wasn’t logging into my account regularly, but I had no reason to think coverage wasn’t active. I’ve checked everything (inbox, spam, physical mail, account notices/documentation) and there was no warning at all about the “expiration”.
I’ve already contacted Nationwide and I’m waiting for a response but I’m an anxious person and looking for any advice or insight while I wait…
Some context:
-I’ve been a Nationwide customer since 2020 (originally for my hedgehog, RIP) and since 2022 for my dog. Any time there was a payment issue in the past I would receive multiple alerts and I would resolve it same day.
-There WAS a payment issue August 2024 which I fixed immediately and I confirmed AUTOMATIC payments were reinstated. I have documentation of that. I recognize I’m privileged to be in a position where I don’t have to closely monitor every transaction, so I wasn’t regularly checking my bank statements. I know that’s not everyone’s reality and I say that not as an excuse but to add context.
I’m really upset. I genuinely thought Walter was covered and now I’m dealing with a vet emergency completely out-of-pocket. I’m also panicking that he may no longer qualify for a new plan with his pre-existing conditions that developed while he was covered.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Were you able to appeal, get reinstated, or have a claim approved retroactively?
And for anyone with legal knowledge, do I have any rights if I was never notified that my policy had ended?
Thanks for reading if you got this far. I’d really appreciate any advice.
TL;DR Found out my Nationwide pet insurance expired months ago with zero notice. Had autopay confirmed active after a payment issue. Facing an emergency vet bill with no coverage. Looking for advice, experiences, or legal insight on whether I can get coverage reinstated or claim paid retroactively
Allstate - Help interpreting debt validation letter response
My girlfriend received a collection letter last month about an outstanding AllState Insurance bill she does not believe she owes. Following my advice, we sent a debt validation letter to the collector, using a template we found on the cfpb (consumer financial protection bureau) website. The response from the collector did not make much sense to us. They essentially said "we need more information from you to provide the info you asked for. You also didn't provide any info to dispute the debt"....which is not what we were trying to do.
Does this response mean they do not have the information to validate the debt? Or did the template we used not do what we expected? Is the next step to file a complaint with the cfpb as [this](https://www.consumerfinance.gov/ask-cfpb/what-information-does-a-debt-collector-have-to-give-me-about-the-debt-en-331/) page suggests, or do we just ignore this and go on our way?
By the way, this isn't affecting her credit yet.

OneAmerica - LTC Insurance: Provide Financial and Wills?
I'm currently age 64 and in the throes of buying a LTC upfront 120k premium, "return of premium" for One America LTC insurance, and am working with a "financial advisor" who requests all my personal financial, living wills, etc.
I feel like I'm being sucked into a ruse of their playing a role of financial advisor for a fee, when all I want is purchase of the policy, which, I thought, only needs my medical records?
Help me out here...please. For upfront payment, am I being played that I have to provide personal financial info?
State Farm - What's the best alternative to State Farm?
I'm shopping around for car insurance. I'm 38F and never had anything but State Farm, but I was rear ended in an accident last year and had a mostly bad experience dealing with customer service and claims. My parents had a life insurance policy for my mother. When she passed away the office somehow marked me as the deceased party, which also lead to me having to "prove" that I was not dead. Keeping in my mind my mother and I share a last name and had our insurances at the same office/broker, but we have completely separate policies. When I told the agent that is what happened, she was combative even though the date of the change corresponded with my mother's death. After my accident, there were significant delays in getting my payment because of some issues they were having with setting up digital payments for me. All around bad experience with customer service and claims who were not empathetic or helpful. When I switched my insurance to a new agent's office for my new car, they put the incorrect financing information on my policy. Had to call several times to change. Realized that they had the wrong mailing address and garage address, even though I had also changed these. I, no joke, had to call on four separate occasions to try to change my garage address. They kept telling me it would be reflected on my policy within a month, but when I checked, my old garage address was still there. Conveniently, my rate at my new address is cheaper.
I will say prior to the past couple years I had great experiences with State Farm. It seems lately to have maybe gone down hill, and I am a pretty dang patient person.
It's not all about price for me either. I'm happy to change to somewhere with better service even if slightly more expensive.
Does anyone actually have a car insurance company they can recommend based on good experiences and/or customer service?
Progressive - Follow up on out of state student car insurance
So, in December my son took one of our cars from Florida to Virginia for university. VA required limits are much higher than in FL and changing the limits, plus garaging the car in VA, raised our Progressive policy to almost 3 times it's cost.
Instead, it was suggested by the insurer we get a different policy for the car in VA. And we did so, through Geico.
Now we have 1 policy in VA for my son and I and 1 car. One policy in FL for my son and I and the other car.
Today, I received a notice from the state of FL that they are going to cancel my registration because the Cadillac (car in VA under Geico policy) doesn't have insurance, according to their records). Sigh.
Will FL accept the VA policy? I can't really register the car in VA since I don't live there and the car is in my name. And both the kid and I have FL licenses because he is a student, so his residence is still FL.
Is the only solution to pay 3 times the amount?
Allstate - Allstate Quote: Questions
I ran the same quote three times and I keep getting different numbers.
One quote said $300, the other said $330 and then I get an email saying it’s $196.
