Healthy Paws - Premium Rates are criminal for senior animals
I've been with Healthy Paws for 10 years, insuring my 2 dogs since they were puppies. Generally had a good experience, the claims process is pretty easy. However, now that they switched underwriters (2024/25) the rates have skyrocketed, and if you have a senior dog (10+) they will force you to increase your deductible, while your monthly premium will more than double. They don't want to insure senior pets, who need it the most, so they force you out financially. My healthy 10 year old dogs rate went from $90/month to $190/month and deductible from $750 to $1000, (which is really hard to reach). Check out the reddit thread about them and I promise you will want to look elsewhere. I suggest you do your research and find another pet insurer who actually cares about your pets for their ENTIRE lifetime.
Figo - Had to contact multiple times
When my pup contracted a respiratory infection, Figo dragged their feet and told me conflicting information. I kept getting emails that I did not have the required documentation yet when I would chat online with a representative I was told I did. The amount of documentation required was insane as well. I uploaded approximately eight different medical documents just for one single visit. I had to keep calling my Vet and asking for more documentation. at this point, my claim has not even been processed, and Figo gives a 10 day window to provide supporting documentation before closing the claim. I have one day left. I think they are trying to stall me until the window closes. do not recommend the monthly price they offered was too good to be true.
Embrace - INTENTIONAL FRAUDULENT REVIEW OF CLAIM
They used the fact that the vet did not see a foreign object in his paw, despite the fact there was a very large wound, it was infected, and they needed to clean it out and prescribe antibiotics, as an excuse to deny the claim. They said since nothing conclusive was found, they could not cover the claim. When I pointed out that the vet said it could have been a foreign object, the claims adjuster had no reponse other than to say the vet did not find anything conclusive. I asked what else could have caused a large wound and needed the care that it did. Again no response. I am filing a claim with the insurance commissioner against them. I would love to be able to file a lawsuit against the adjuster personally for fraud, but I'm not sure it is worth the trouble. I might do so just to prove a point. Horrible company.
MetLife - Two of my claims have been processing…
Two of my claims have been processing for around two months now. The first claim I had to resubmit because they forgot to reimburse me for my second transaction in the claim. Then I had to resubmit several documents several times for both claims.
Trupanion Canada - They have become greedy and uncaring in…de
They have become greedy and uncaring in last few years, my name is Wayne Samms and I do not recommend Trupanion.
Trupanion - Trupanion is a SCAM
Trupanion is a SCAM. Their call center agents absolutely cannot be trusted and will make false/misleading statements to get you to spend more money while knowing they will never pay out for most vet costs and surgeries. Their misleading deductible amounts is nothing short of corporate fraud. What kind of insurance policy has a deductible on each specific line item on a hospital bill? I wish we were smart enough to not fall for this scam, but unfortunately we trusted this company. Shame on anyone who works for this company--despicable.
Embrace - Cancelled Policy due to cost
I have been an Embrace customer for roughly 8 years. I counted myself a very satisfied client up until recently.
About 4ish months ago added in my puppy, Milo. I had filed a claim for Milo because said dorky puppy ate a mushroom and got pretty sick. Long story short, emails were exchanged, the point of the emails were unclear until I called in and a very patient individual spoke to me in non-insurance speak and explained the issue.
However, in my frustration prior to the call I went shopping for new insurance. After checking with a very large online dog community of dedicated sport dog enthusiasts I opted to investigate a couple of alternate insurance companies. Much to my surprise, I discovered I could get insurance with a higher reimbursement rate, no annual limit, a slightly higher deductible, and added in some routine care (spay, vaccination, etc) for less. Much less. I can cover all 3 dogs, ages 7, 2, and under 1 year, for about $40 less a month. In these rough economic times, customer loyalty is out the window. I'll take the extra $480/year in my pocket.
Pets Best - Poliy Renewal Questions
This was my 2nd phone call to Pets Best to discuss options for my policy renewal. I spoke to the same person both times. Although she did answer my questions, she did not seem at all friendly and did not have very good PR/communication skills. Chewy customer service is the BEST. Whenever I call they make me feel appreciated as a customer.
Trupanion - I signed up for Trupanion’s free 30-day…
I signed up for Trupanion’s free 30-day trial after receiving multiple reminders, thinking it couldn’t hurt to try.
Pros:
No credit or debit card is required to sign up for and use the 30-day trial.
Cons:
The policy doesn’t cover anything until you meet a deductible.
Submitting receipts from the vet to Trupanion only results in an email confirming that the amount was applied toward your deductible, with no actual reimbursement.
Overall, I found this frustrating and not worth the time. Rather than paying into this “insurance,” I recommend putting that money into a dedicated savings account for your pet. When they need care, you can pay directly and avoid the hassle of dealing with an insurance policy that doesn’t provide immediate coverage.
Pets Best - 80% increase with no claims
PetsBest just raised my insurance by 80% when I had no claims in over two years! This is outrageous, and may be related to the fact it was sold to another company last year, so we can expect more denied claims as they try to increase profits.
If you have a claim, they will never pre-approve it. Their tactic is "submit and then we'll see", so if they deny it, you will have to spend thousands out of pocket. Only had one claim about three or four years ago, and this was very unnerving.
This 80% increase from one year to the next is the last straw. I cannot trust they won't keep doing the same.
As it tends to happen, their support team was of no help.
