Nationwide - My puppy is 10 weeks old has a UTI
My puppy is 10 weeks old has a UTI. They’re charging me over $100 a month and are restricting anything that has to do with kidneys, bladder or anything like that into the insurance.
Ridiculous
Nationwide - I haven’t heard back yet
I haven’t heard back yet - soooo… how could I possibly give a positive review?
Nationwide - Nationwide is no longer on our side.
My insurance was abruptly canceled for my 5 year old dog on 5/1/25. For five years, I never missed a payment. My dog never required expensive medications or surgeries. Nationwide was unable to provide me with a reason. They told me I had to reapply for insurance; my dog now has pre-existing conditions. Our re-application was rejected. This is incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I would advise against any policy with this company as they will screw you over any way they can. It is laughable that they sent me this email asking for a review.
Nationwide - Nationwide for the money not your pet
We have been a member for over 5 years. Minimal increases over the years. I was just informed they are cancelling the My Pet Protection Plan to replace with My Pet Protection Choice. This is less coverage for a whopping 300%+ increase from $77 a month to $316.70 PER MONTH. My dog is 12 years old. I now have to find new insurance as a result. Nationwide will give you a great first experience and then screw you when your dog gets older. They could care less about your dog.
Nationwide - Hereditary disease isn’t covered
Hereditary disease isn’t covered. Other pet policies do so please check them out. Would not recommend this policy after having 18 years with this company. Then to add insult, moved to Florida and they threw on a Florida fee.
Nationwide - The underwriters wrote false…
The underwriters wrote false information about my dogs that they had periodontal disease and one of them was aggressive. They said anything to do with aggressive behavior they would not cover. I called my vet and they verified my dogs, did not have periodontal disease, and they were not labeled as aggressive. The underwriter reasoning for labeling my dog as aggressive was one of my dogs did not want the thermometer in his behind which is normal behavior. I was so outraged by this I did not even want to file a dispute. I immediately cancelled this insurance and demanded a refund. I used nationwide for years with previous pets but never again! Liars!
Nationwide - I can't rate you yet because I don't…
I can't rate you yet because I don't know if I've been approved.
Nationwide - I am distraught with Nationwide pet…
I am distraught with Nationwide pet insurance, as the one time I needed them to cover a surgery in 8 years of having a policy, they are denying it. I have carried Nationwide pet insurance since my yellow Lab, Beau, was a puppy. I have major medical and have had very few claims over the past 8 years. Beau had a mass on his leg and the the needle biopsy was inconclusive to our Vet. She said it could be a joint cyst or joint sarcoma and referred me to a surgical vet specialist. The Specialist wanted to get the mass off right away and send it to pathology. the surgery was $3400. Nationwide will not pay for the surgery, stating that they have already paid the amount allowed for a synovial cyst. Both my vet and the surgeon have reached out to them to tell them they were not certain it was a cyst, but they still denied the claim. Basically, Beau would have had to have cancer for them to cover the surgery to remove it. It is not worth paying monthly for this insurance if they won't cover the high cost of surgery when it is clearly needed and part of major medical
Nationwide - Run! Don't Walk!
When I purchased this policy, I was told that my pet did not have any pre-existing conditions. After I filed the claim, I was told that the treatment she received was for a pre-existing condition. Furthermore, before the policy was purchased, 6 months of records were requested. I had not had this dog for 6 months, so I provided the records that I did have. Again, no pre-existing conditions were discovered. I summitted the claim for her recent visit. Now, 24 months of records were requested, suddenly she has a pre-existing condition. (Mind you, the same records were submitted, as the initial request prior to the policy's purchase). Please do yourself a favor and find yourself a decent insurance company for your pet. I plan to report this to the Better Business, The PA Bureau of Consumer Protection, as well as my attorney. I will share my experience on every electronic review site, social media platform possible, and I encourage you to do the same.
In addition to this, I was also denied access to a live agent by their automated phone system, which disconnected me 3x for it's inability to "understand" the information I provided.
Nationwide - Not loyal to their customers.
I’ve been a Nationwide pet insurance customer since 2014. Over the years, I’ve only needed the insurance for routine wellness visits and exams — nothing major. I set up autopay early on so that payments would be consistent and on time, and I never missed a payment.
Recently, I noticed that payments were no longer being withdrawn. When I logged into my account, I was shocked to discover that my policy had expired. I immediately called Nationwide for clarification. The representative told me that my plan was discontinued because it was an older policy. I was never notified.
When I asked why I wasn’t informed — via email, phone call, or even a text — the only answer I received was that they sent a letter. I never received it. I pressed further, asking why there was no follow-up when they clearly had multiple ways to contact me, and the representative had no response.
To make matters worse, when I asked what I could do now to make sure my dog remains insured, I was told that because of his age, Nationwide will no longer insure him. After paying $162.19 per month for ten years, I’m now left with nothing, just when my senior dog may need coverage the most.
How convenient for them.
This is a shameful way to treat a loyal, long-term customer. I upheld my end of the agreement without fail, and now, when it truly matters, Nationwide has abandoned us. It’s incredibly disappointing and feels like a calculated move to avoid covering aging pets when they’re likely to need care.
Shame on you, Nationwide.
