Location: Arizona My boyfriend and I rented an apartment about a month ago. Ever since staying there, we noticed a large, unavoidable amount of roaches. As stated in the contract, we were allowed to leave if the conditions were deemed unfit for living. We sent several emails regarding this situation, and even got bed bugs and have photos of proof of the roaches and bites as well as a doctor note. There were roaches in bags of potatoes, closed flour, and more. We had enough and left, leaving a letter saying we would be leaving and why. They are now trying to charge us 12k for the months that we left, and threatened to send to collections. We got an email this morning regarding the amount owed from collections. What can we do? We both don’t make enough to pay this off or to get a lawyer.
