Healthy Paws - If I could give them a zero I would
If I could give them a zero I would. This is so unfortunate. We have been HP customers since 2014. We just got notice that our premiums are going up $300 a month. I want to be clear that this post isn’t because the premium increases, it’s that fact that it increased without reason by 300 a month! When I inquired I got numerous different stories reasons why (we have not had any claims in 5 years and zero with two of the dogs). When I inquired further the excuses just continued. We will be leaving and it’s sad. We were very loyal
Customers, minimal claims in the last 12 years, monthly payment NEVER missed. To get inconsistent stories, and no factual information was uncalled for. HP was in a huge lawsuit years ago for something similar to this. Steer clear lots of other insurance companies out there.
Healthy Paws - Greedy and Exploitative – Avoid at All Costs!
Healthy Paws used to be a great company, but greed has completely taken over. I’ve insured my two dogs with them for nearly a decade, since they were puppies. At first, the price increases were small—$35 per pet per month, then $45, then $65, then $90. Every year, the cost crept up, but I stayed loyal, thinking it was just inflation.
Then, after they were acquired by a larger company, they went full-on exploitative. My monthly premium was already an outrageous $243 for both dogs. But now? They expect me to pay $530 per month—more than double! No changes to coverage, no justification beyond their corporate greed.
It’s clear they’re preying on loyal customers with older pets, knowing we have fewer options because of pre-existing conditions. It’s disgusting and unethical. They’re banking on pet owners feeling trapped. Well, I refuse to reward this behavior. I’ll find another insurer—even if it costs more—just to ensure my money doesn’t go to a company that puts profits over pets.
Do yourself a favor: stay far away from Healthy Paws. They don’t care about your pet—only your wallet.
Healthy Paws - Shameful practices
Healthy paws has just increased my monthly premium from $250 to over $600 per month. This is outrageous and they appear to be blaming it on our state (California, the usual whipping boy for everyone). I have been a customer for many years with barely any claims. One of my dogs is older now and for almost the first time, I have made sizable claims so I’m pretty sure this is the real reason. But…..this is precisely why you pay into insurance from when they were puppies(in our case 8 weeks old) ….. so that all the years you pay premiums and claim nothing are at least partially offset by the claims you have to make when they age. I don’t know why they couldn’t make up the shortfall (if this story about what our state requires is true) on the back of new customers instead of shafting existing customers. Now I have to look for a new insurer for a dog with preexisting conditions. Shameful!
Healthy Paws - Run. Run. Run.
Created a TrustPilot account to share this year's premium increase. As a loyal customer since 2011, who has been dealing with the already massive price increases every year since 2020/21 but forced to deal with it, I can't anymore and am being forced to cancel. Sharing this for the greater good, and won't even share further details in hope the numbers you see below speaks for itself. Started around $34 in 2011. These numbers are for 2 small dogs, with the majority of the increase related to the old one).

Healthy Paws - WARNING! Do Not Purchase
WARNING IF YOU ARE EVEN CONSIDERING INSURANCE THROUGH THIS GROUP. We've had Healthy Paws pet insurance for our cat for the past 15 years. His rates originally started at $20 a month. Rates have gone up pretty significantly over the years. We now pay about $300 a month. This is expensive. However, our has cancer and we have figured the insurance is worth keeping. As of today, we were notified our monthly rate is increasing to over $900 a MONTH. This is not just an annual "price increase" and is now completely unaffordable. I've tried talking to the insurance company on the phone and was told there is nothing they can do. Unfortunately, due to my cats age and cancer we can't get insurance elsewhere. This honestly seems completely unethical. They charge people for years while theur animals are healthy. Then, raise insurance rates dramatically when people actually need them. Honestly, this is dispicable and I am disgusted with this supposedly reputable company.
Healthy Paws - Reimburse
I have had this insurance for at least 12 years and have several dogs on it. Previously things were wonderful. I received my reimbursement in a timely manner. I got the most expensive policy and until lately I praised Healthy Paws to everyone. I have been very happy until lately. I have submitted two claims and I will be submitting another one very soon. One was submitted in January and the other one in March. I have not received a reimbursement check on either one. I have called and of course it’s somebody different in a different place. For my January submission I was told it was approved but never got where ever the checks are printed. It was spooked to be corrected and here I am almost 4 months later still waiting. I had submitted another one in March but was told they didn’t have record of that. What is going on there.? My premiums are very expensive. I would appreciate a response to this since I can’t talk to anyone that can help. Because of this I have given a very low rating.
Healthy Paws - DON’T waste your money!
Raised their prices again & never reimbursed me. They sent back the claims stating they needed more info from the vet. The vet provided the info and so did yet they never responded or paid.
Healthy Paws - Healthy paws increased my pet insurance…
Healthy paws increased my pet insurance by 212%. They would have charged me $7200 per year for coverage. They said they sent me notice, which I never saw!
When I called to complain, they refuse to reimburse me one I noticed the increase. Their own customer supervisor, Jennifer, admitted that the increase was “outrageous.”
Any pet owner who should know that healthy paws uses a “negative option” scheme, where the owner needs to directly cancel the policy.
Healthy paws is a horrible and unconscionable company.
Pet owners beware!
Healthy Paws - Avoid
Avoid! I've been with this company with two dogs for 7 and 8 years, dogs have been insured since about 4-6 months of age. No issues with small claims over the years, however premiums increase regularly, to the point where I had to cut back to high deductible (more emergency style coverage), verses low deductible in the past. Recently had dentals done on both dogs and the company is requesting essentially full medical records to process the claim "to see when the condition started". This seems a bit ridiculous given the dental are appropriate for age and the dogs have been insured through these fools pretty much their entire lives. I dread the idea of trying to fight these guys to get anything major covered as this has already been a huge hassle and really seems unnecessary for common age appropriate medical procedures. The kicker is their call center is somewhere in southwest Asia, I've called several times over the years and have found it near impossible to have a productive interaction. I stay with them due to preexisting medical conditions but am at the point of just cancelling because it feels like scam if they won't payout for valid claims. After the deductible it will be a few hundred dollars back to me - a big deal for me, probably not so much for them.
Healthy Paws - Insanely more than doubling my premium
I had a great experience w/ Healthy Paws and luckily I only had to file 1 claim and they paid it quickly. I got an email from them informing me of their absurd premium increase, more than double, which is absolutely insane. I saw there's a lawsuit against for the same reason. This is from them-" Current Monthly Premium: $68.00
• New Monthly Premium Starting in 63 Days: $155.25."
I cancelled my policy and will be getting a more affordable plan elsewhere.
