Healthy Paws - I had my insurance with Healthy Paws…
I had my insurance with Healthy Paws since my dog 🐶 was a puppy.I signed up with Healthy Paws 12/30/2018, my wife recently said why do we not have coverage anymore.
I called the office and they tell me that a payment did not go through on my American Express account. I called up and they told me that an e mail was sent to me as well as a letter to my home. I questioned the representative and said there was no letter addressed to my home address and i did not receive an e mail canceling my account. I asked why they did not call me since my dog has been with them over 6 years and paying monthly always on time. They said they can’t do anything and they won’t insure our dog due to the fact that she is 7 years old.
I find this company not willing to be reasonable and try to work this out this situation with us. I did not have one claim with Healthy Paws in over 6 years. If a company
is so well respected in the market place why not show compassion to the people that support your company. I would not recommend or use this company based on how we were treated and pushed aside due to the age of our dog being 7 years old. I asked can we be reinstated to our policy, but they did not even want to entertain any idea of addressing our concerns. It is unfortunate that this company feels this way to loyal member like us.
Healthy Paws - Annual increase from $90/month to $249/month
I've used and appreciated Healthy Paws for my (now senior) dog (aged 12) since 2016. Every year they've had to increase rates slightly; I understand, the cost of care increases, etc. Today I got an email they're increasing my monthly cost from $90.63 to $249.87 - a 2.75x increase. While previously they've offered to adjust your annual deductible or reimbursement percentage to help you find a monthly cost that works for you, they've throttled the options available so the lowest this can get is $201/month. An absolute RACKET. Everyone would be better off putting $90 (or whatever you can afford) into a high yield savings account every month.
Healthy Paws - Collected my monthly fee for over a year
Update based on their reply:
They claimed "In situations where there is not a ton of medical history available, at minimum we will require the notes from the enrollment exam as outlined in your policy in order to process claims." I provided medical records dating back to 2017, with the most recent being 60 days prior to enrollment. TLDR; They use every technicality they can to deny claims.
They've been collecting my monthly fee for over a year and apparently I didn't provide the medical documentation they needed at time of enrollment – despite them sending be a confirmation email that they received my medical records AND the policy is active. Which means that this entire time I'm enrolled with them, nothing I ever would have submitted would get covered. Additionally, they're claiming one item as pre-existing condition, referencing the very medical records (from 2018) that they just said they can't use for our latest issue. Literally the one time my pet has ever needed coverage and during a very emotional time where he was diagnosed with a terminal condition. These companies are absolutely horrific and I'm never buying pet insurance again. Save your money and put your monthly fees in a savings account for medical issues – it will do you more than these companies ever will.
Healthy Paws - Increased monthly payment of $842.61 with no explanation
I had Healthy Paws for years. Then, all of a sudden they increased my monthly payments from $110.74 to $841.61 monthly. I called them but they could not give me an explanation for the increase. I have recommended them in the past but will now let the folks know that they may be in for an unexplained increase and since their pets are young, they will possibly check out other insurance companies. They were great until my cat got older. By that being said, I would think very hard before I would go with them again especially since my cat has been pretty healthy. Money lost monthly for me.
Healthy Paws - Used to be a super great company
UPDATE: I sent in the medical records for the appeal, now it's taking forever and "under review." Been on phone now over an hour between overseas and US, now being transferred to a supervisor. Very frustrated! ***** Used to be a super great company! US based agents, picked up on third ring. Very nice folks. Really it was the only insurance company I didn't have to argue with. That was then. Now it's overseas customer service, no idea what they are doing. I submitted a claim, they did not pay for blood work even though my dog was sick and should have been covered. I just requested and got transferred to US agent. She said my account terminated 2 years ago for a dog that passed away. I said no I have a current account with a new dog after that. She can't find account. Now I'm on permahold to talk to supervisor. I thought I bet Healthy Paws got bought out, sure enough Chubb bought company in July 2024. Now they are just as bad as any other insurance company. Very sad.
Healthy Paws - I have paid for YEARS with ridiculous…
I have paid for YEARS with ridiculous increasing premiums each year. When it's time to reimburse us $400 they keep saying they aren't getting all the info from our vet. Dog was in 2 days in a row and they say they only have info for 1 of the days. The vet sent it all at once, multiple times.
I told them never mind and that I was planning on cancelling the policy. Next thing I know they cancelled it themselves. NEVER AGAIN with this company.
Healthy Paws - Horrible experience on final claim…
Horrible experience on final claim after losing our dog to cancer. I have had this insurance for 10 years. Never had a claim until March 2025 when we found out our dog had cancer. I submitted 2 bigger claims, but under $500. Another for medications and a final for euthanasia which $150. Never in the previous larger 4 claims did they ever ask for a full 10 year medical record of our dog until the final claim. Seems if a full medical record was necessary it should have been required on first claim, not after losing our dog and on the final claim. This company is unethical and I cannot help but wonder if this about getting yet another payment while they jerk us around.
In response to Healthy Pets reply: No problem on requesting these records, but it should have been on the first submission - not after we lost our pet. Your company should find some compassion.
Healthy Paws - Nightmare Filing First Claim
I filed my first claim for healthy paws pet insurance over a year after I enrolled my new dog. Throughout the entire time I have owned him, I have been diligent in submitting proof of soap notes from previous vet visits (one over a year before I submitted a claim and the other several months before). I also submitted proof of vaccinations as well as negative parasite tests. When Beau injured his leg and needed an xray, I filed my first claim. I was then told that there needed to be more documentation. I emailed back said documentation, but figured I should also call for good measure. The customer service department was unable to tell me what documents they had previously received. (I will note that any time I had submitted documentation I received an automated email). When I asked if I could speak to anyone who worked in the claims department I was told there was no phone number, and the only way to contact them was via email. When I asked for that email, I was given the general customer service email that can be found on the website… so not anyone linked to claims. All emails I have sent have only been answered with automated responses. When I went back and totaled up how much I had spent on this dog insurance service, I was dismayed to find that had I simply put the same amount of money to the side I would have been able to cover my dogs treatment. I think that this company goes out of their way to make contacting them difficult, and receiving information regarding you claim impossible. I hope someone reads this review and saves themselves the money or finds another honest insurance company that will actually cover new injuries.
Healthy Paws - Crazy difficult to get they to work on your claim!
They are delaying the decision on the claim in every possible way. The first claim has been going on since November 2024, it is now May 19 2025 and still "in process". They are just dragging out time so that you continue to pay monthly. Ridiculous, we paid them for almost two years, our cat did not get sick, but broke a fang, insurance covers this case, our vet provided medical records and all the documents, but Healthy Paws kept asking for more and more documents, more exams, this lasted for three months, as a result, the claim was closed, in March 17th they received another veterinary exam what only they wanted for the claim. So for two months they have had all the documents what they asked but they only respond back that "review of the claim may take 10-14 business days"and repeat to ask us by email for the same vet docs what they have already! This company acts like a scammer. Tomorrow we will call to cancel this insurance and then send a complaint to BBB.
P.S. The problem was fixed by London, Healthy Paws Customer Liaison Manager.
The claim has been approved for payment at last. Thank you.
Healthy Paws - Its not a closed claim until you PAY ME.
I put in a claim on March 14 and it had been over a year since my last claim. I felt it was taking so long and I never saw a direct deposit in my account, so I got online and saw that the claim had processed and they marked it "closed", however, they never paid me $279.20, which shows the amount I am due. I looked at my account and saw that somehow my direct deposit was not listed in my portal account, so I put it back in and called Healthy Paws to let them know, explained what happened and told them I put my direct deposit info back in the system. It is now May 19th and I called again TODAY, and they told me it should take 10 days from the first time I called and that I should be paid by May 23rd. Seems like a very long time since direct deposit is a very quick thing to correct. I don't have a lot of patience for insurance companies that would cancel me in an instant if I didn't pay my bill, but take their darn sweet time when they have to PAY ME.
