I (20F) lived in Massachusetts for a year for school, this was in 2023-2024. I was severely sick and needed to be transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital, I was 18 years old at the time (I went to the hospital in December of 2023) and was on my mothers health insurance (I still am, I am not the head/provider of the insurance). Within that summer, a bill for the ambulance was sent in the mail, because I was the one who used the ambulance, they had billed me -- however, my mother was in charge of the payment/financial bills since she is the head of the insurance and I was still in school. After receiving the letter, she had called the insurance company to resolve the issue -- of course there was some back and forth with who to contact, but it was ultimately "taken care of" (so it seemed). fast forward to now, I do not go to school in Mass anymore since I had transferred to another school within my home state. I checked my credit score (I do this every so often to make sure things are all good), and it was significantly lowered. I check to see why this is, I see that there is a "collections" that made my score go down in May of 2025. Of course, I am panicking because the bill is $2,800 and I had no clue of this until today. I have to wait until tomorrow morning to call my mothers'/my insurance company and then the ambulance company to figure this out. I am very lost and unsure of what to do, Ive had no information of this billing until today -- all from a credit report -- nothing in the mail, no phone calls, not emails, nothing. I would heavily appreciate some advice and guidance. \*\*edit: I use blue cross/shield. I check my credit score often to make sure everything is all good, I am a student who takes out student loans. This impacts my ability to do this severely. I always make my payments on time (both credit and loans). I need advice bad.

I received a letter today from Rawlings Company on behalf of my insurance company BCBS. I was in an auto accident in 2024. Single vehicle. I was the driver and my daughter was the passenger. Thw letter is confusing and it mentions that I was making a claim to another party's insurance or my own. It goes on to mention a settlement. And ends with if I choose to hire an attorney please provide their information. What in the heck is this? I'm so confused

I need some opinions on what to do. This is an odd situation. In past “pay up front cash” dental visits, the dentist offices, with a week or two, returned to me the covered expense/reimbursement from Blue Cross after they submitted the claim. However, this time, I went to an oral surgeon bc I needed a molar extraction that was complicated. I paid $1800 up front on credit card no problem. I would’ve paid double that with all the pain. About a week later I saw that I was covered for ~ $500 on the claim. A check was sent to oral surgeon’s office. When I called them they told me they were processing it and to be patient. This was a couple MONTHS ago. I last called on Monday 7/21 and was literally told, “check’s in the mail”. That’s pretty funny, especially since it is now Friday night and, of course, no check. Something quite fishy about this. I wonder if Blue Cross can do something. I’m interested in thoughts on this. TIA!

Hi all, I’m in a common and frustrating position revolving around paying for health insurance. Here is my situation. I work part-time and go to school part-time, so I don’t qualify for full-time benefits for work or any equivalent part-time healthcare offers in Michigan So that’s the first part. I gross about $600 a month working and my healthcare premium is $650 a month alone for BCBSM HMO Gold plan. It just is not feasible to pay that much for healthcare anymore- especially, out of pocket in full. What I do have is Medicaid and CarePayment accounts that help me cover the costs and pay down medical debt in a reasonable time frame. I need some coverage because I have a mental health condition and commonly use: medications, psychiatry, therapy, and labs. I am wondering if I can get by just with MI Medicaid. Is that risky since Medicaid has very low reimbursement rates? Or is it reasonable to go with Medicaid and just try to be frugal medically? What I want to avoid is going for routine procedures and leaving with a $1200 bill, AND paying $650 a month only to use it half hazardously. Thanks.

Do agents typically approach you? I was approached by a woman with a tablet telling me about insurance plans and claiming she was from ACA. She asked me if I wanted to apply to see if I were eligible and told me that I could cancel at any tome should I enroll in it. Turns out I was eligible for a basic plan that I pay 0 dollars for. So I am a bit skeptical about the whole thing. I have a screenshot about a confirmation on an onboard app. It has a Premier Secure number to cancel. I’m 90% my dumbass got scammed or something. I’ve done an enrollment with a Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance in a similar manner but I canceled that one because the mandatory doctor was an hour away.

I'm on my mom's blue cross blue shield medicaid IL insurance and for some reason I was kicked off last month and now it says I'll be back on next month. My mom isn't sure why that happened. When I tried to make an appointment yesterday my bcbs insurance ID wasn't working when it always has. But I NEED to go to a hospital some time soon. Will my medicaid ID work or are they together? If it doesn't work does that mean I'll have to pay out of pocket if I go before next month.

Question about marketplace insurance vs. private. My husband and I are partners in our own business so we got on a family marketplace plan this year after much due diligence on my part to ensure our providers were in network. We found out the hard way that just because some hospitals in a health network are covered, doesn't mean all are covered. This was upsetting to us because having both worked for the large health networks around us, we know where you go for procedures matters. I did a search of all marketplace plans for the 2 hospitals we prefer and NONE are in network. I got an email recently from an insurance broker who quoted me a price for Anthem BCBS that is a few hundred dollars cheaper a month than our marketplace plan including subsidies. There is a small deductible that I don't have with the marketplace plan and some limits on how often we can utilize a service but this would be OK with me if we could go to the hospitals we prefer. I'm also worried the healthcare subsidies will go away next year so finding a cheaper plan puts me a bit at ease. Is there anything I need to be super aware of with private plans? I'm curious how a private plan could be cheaper than a marketplace plan which is what is making me wonder if it's too good to be true. Thanks for any insight you can give!

My son has two insurance policies, one with me and one with his Dad. Both plans are with BCBS. Dental office called to tell me they can't run the claim because BCBS website is showing that he is inactive on Dads plan. Dad says plan should be fine. So no idea why the Dr office is seeing that. I asked if they could just run it under mine and they sad it won't work because Dads plan is inactive and the my plan won't pay until it's resolved. This doesn't make sense to me. Why would it not process with my plan just because Dad's plan is inactive? Wouldn't this be the same as my son only having one insurance plan now and run it without the secondary attached? Can someone break this down for me?

I went in for my sterilization a few weeks ago and was SO excited to finally have it done. I have BCBS and my doctor's office said that insurance will cover the procedure 100%. But when I got to the hospital they said it would cost $10,000 because the hospital is not in network. Is the hospital correct on this or do I need to contest it because my insurance is ACA compliant? Can I contest it before the surgery so I'm not potentially stuck with a stupid huge bill?

Cardiologist ordered a CT for my heart. Pre-authorization approved by insurance but for cost estimate at BCBS website I will still roughly pay about 2K while they will cover about $1600. I have BCBS PPO with $3200 deductible. Would the hospital billing department be able to give me my actual cost before I go through with the procedure. I just don’t want any more surprises after getting hit with a $3K hospital bill for my son’s ambulance and ER TRIP.
