Allstate - Allstate overcharged home insurance for years, will not give us our money back
Can anyone give me an idea of what to do? Allstate misrepresented how many sq feet our house is. My spouse (who does most of the bills etc) did not notice this for literally years, and made a phone call as soon as they did. It's a difference of about a thousand dollars a year. Allstate readjusted the sq footage. They gave us one year's overpayment back, and basically told us too bad about the rest, and there's nothing they can do about it. Well of course there is something they can do about it, they just chose not to.
They gave us a year back. We got our next bill in the mail last week, and they had put the wrong sq footage on it again! Needless to say this is super aggravating. Their refusal to do anything is really absurd. They stole from us and don't care at all. You know how it is...every person we talk to just sends us to someone else. Is there anything I can do? Any advice would be so appreciated.
Delta Dental - Delta Dental
This has happened twice now where I have received my EOB in the mail, panic because it says I owe several hundred dollars still, and then when I check my billing with my dentist it says that insurance has covered everything and I don't owe anything other than what I paid the day of my visit.
If the office isn't billing me anything extra, then I'm fine right? Is my dentist just good at negotiating with Delta Dental?
the other driver's insurance - My car was deemed "totaled" and Insurance company asking me to send photos of inside of car for them to appraise value.
My car is being considered Totaled based on the accident photos. To determine the value of the car the adjuster is asking me to take pictures of the inside of the car only. I requested for them to send someone over to look at the car in person, and they say they don't send appraisers to look at cars, that they only base it on the pictures.
They said that if I wanted to get the car repaired that I can, but they would consider it as "Salvaged" and there's a process for that. They would send me a salvaged title, etc.
Wouldn't they assess it lower based on inside images only? What about the rest of the car, they don't care about it?
What can I do about this. I have also let them know I paid for my registration, bought some new lights, tires, etc. recently, and they asked for the receipt of these items, which I will send but how can I know that I'm not being offered really low?
What makes me the most concerned is that I had a body shop come see the car and they tell me that they consider the car's value much higher than the repair. This is why I wish they could bring someone over instead. The car aside the accident part, is in great shape, why can't they be fair and bring someone to do this properly? This is being done by the other driver's insurance.
insurance carrier - How to rent-out a low-power electric pontoon boat as optional feature at my lakefront short term rental?
I am purchasing a lakefront second home that I will use primarily as a short term rental in PA (and will use about 10% of the time personally and the home will be in my name). The sellers are transferring to me a low-power electric pontoon boat to go along with the sale. They currently also rent the home and pontoon boat as an optional add-on. The boat rental has been very popular for them and has generated a significant amount of additional rental income that I'd like to reproduce. I spoke to them about how they insure the boat and themselves from liability while renters use the boat. They provided the name of an insurance carrier that they use for the home policy and indicated the same carrier provides a personal umbrella policy that they use to cover themselves for the boat rental.
As it turns out, I use the same insurance carrier so I reached out to my agent about getting similarly set-up. However, my agent, after consulting with underwriters, told me that not only do they want nothing to do with covering the boat when used by renters, but that they will not even insure the home as long as the boat is on the premises and now require proof of sale of the boat before they will insure the home even if we were to forbid renters' use of the boat.
I'm suspecting that the sellers are operating a very risky operation where they didn't disclose everything to their carrier and they would not be covered in the event of an incident.
So, I'm looking for advice for how I may be able to rent the home and the boat but still be legitimately covered by insurance.
It was suggested to me that perhaps I could start an LLC, sell the boat to the LLC, and then operate the boat rental arm through the LLC. However, a brief search through chatgpt seems to indicate that because I would be closely tying the optional boat rental into the rental of the home, that I would be potentially stepping into all sorts of issues and the LLC would not function to "limit liability" as intended in its name.
Has anyone found a solution to this and could share their experience/advice for how to make this a reality?
**TLDR: How do I get liability insurance to cover me renting a low-power electric pontoon boat as an optional add-on feature for the renters of my lakefront short term rental home?**
Blue Cross Blue Shield Kansas City - Transgender HRT (Estradiol) Denied By Blue Cross Blue Shield Kansas City
26, California, $37,000. My health insurance provider denied me access to estradiol for the purpose of gender transition (MtF). I was prescribed this by my doctor and they called me to inform me that my insurance excludes anything under gender related health care according to a denial letter they got from the company. Blue Cross Blue Shield Kansas City provides the health care in Missouri because of the company being nationwide, although I am based in California. I have yet to receive a copy of the denial letter myself, but plan to get a copy of the one from my doctor's office if I don't receive one in the mail this following week from the company. According to the BCBSKS website they do cover gender transition and when I started this job I asked them if it was covered. My H.R. representative seemed confused about the denial and said she'd look into it as she'd never run into this before. She also that they supposedly cover gender related surgery at a certain percentage so something seems fishy. Is this a recent policy change? What are my options? I'm currently filing a complaint through my recently formed union at the company and will be using GoodRx to be able to afford it, but now I'm worried if I tried to receive anything else transition related and am frustrated it won't go towards a deductible. I don't have the letter of denial yet. Will I be able to appeal with information on the letter? Is this legal since I am a California resident or is it all purely through Missouri laws? Just looking for advice.
Travelers - How much do quotes for new insurance usually increase during signing?
So long story short, we have been with a smaller insurance company for 5+ years with home and auto. Our insurance rates keep skyrocketing with no claims/accidents/ tickets etc. With our current company our home and auto is $7900 a year. (Two cars)
I decided to talk with a broker and they presented me with an estimate from travelers for the EXACT same coverage for $4000 a year. I mean, almost half for the exact same coverage? I find it hard to believe. I was planning on switching if the savings was more than $1000 anyway, but I don’t want to start the process and they’re like oh sorry it’s actually $7500 not $4000 lol.
Travelers - Home Insurance Claim in Appraisal, Insurance Company Hired Lawyers
Hi all,
(Reposting because I didn't know how to format)
TL;DR: Insurance denying approximately 40K worth of costs (approved line items, just more expensive in the region than their estimate), went to appraisal with adjusters, umpire selected, month later learn that insurance company is now represented by lawyers.
We experienced a water damage claim impacting a 3-story townhouse, all continuous wood flooring, walls, and kitchen cabinets, counter, backsplash, with Traveler's in Dec 2023. We are located in King County, Washington; the house is built into a slope not directly accessible to the street and is stand-alone (no shared walls) on a plot with 3 other homes.
My initial quotes from contractors up to 100K. I went with a contractor who quoted around 80K, good guy. Escalated through several Traveler's adjusters in Winter 2024 until an adjuster came in person in late Winter and agreed with our contractor and the work moved forward. The insurance company adjuster recognized that the costs were going to be pretty high and was working well with our contractor, it seemed.
I handled cabinets, backsplash, and counters directly with a subcontractor and my contractor handled drywall, paint, flooring, pack-out and move in, and more. I got approval from insurance adjuster along the way and ended up getting approval for all of the kitchen work, fully covered, around 33K.
Due to delays from Travelers and subcontractors, with materials being hard to come by, our kitchen floor was unfinished with nails sticking out until May 2024. We wanted to keep things moving and settled on cheaper flooring than an exact match that was available sooner than the Fall, so we moved out in May (I had gotten approval for housing costs in early May from insurance for several weeks). Then, for whatever reason, their adjuster stopped responding to my contractor for a few weeks in, approximately, late-May and June.
The flooring and painting work was finally done and the cabinetry, counters, etc. mostly got done in mid-late July. The work was mostly completed by August except for a few small things. The final costs of the new installation of cabinets, counters, backsplash in the kitchen, which I had handled and which had been covered, was approximately 33K which has all been paid out and completed. Mitigation was done for 6.6K with a separate company. The remainder of the tear down, pack out, dry wall, painting, flooring, cleaning, plumbing, electrical, etc., onwards from my contractor ended up being 105K. With the previous adjuster, the claim was sitting around 70k estimate from the insurance side with an expectation that it would go up conveyed verbally with their adjuster several times.
In this period, since the insurance adjuster had stopped responding, my contractor had reached out directly to Traveler's. At some point a new adjuster was assigned and then, in June/July, the case was passed through, I believe, 3 more adjusters. The final adjuster basically went through and wrapped up the claim, including recoverable depreciation, but didn't really acknowledge the actual costs of the materials, labor, compared to their estimate and essentially closed the claim at approximately 95K total, which included mitigation, kitchen, and the contractor's work. That left a gap of approximately 40K still due to my contractor.
After a month or so of back and forth, we agreed with the final insurance adjuster, to go to appraisal in November. We selected an adjuster. It seems that nothing was happening for several weeks and then eventually Travelers selected their adjuster and he actually came to inspect the house in December. Then per our adjuster, unable to be reached/unresponsive for several weeks. Once they did get into contact and went back and forth in late February, they finally agreed on an umpire. Then, out of nowhere, in mid-March, the third party adjuster representing Travelers informed our adjuster that Traveler's had assigned or hired lawyers to handle this claim and they were no longer continuing the appraisal as previously agreed upon.
Here is the policy language regarding appraisal:
...7. Appraisal. If you and we fail to agree on the amount of loss, either party may demand an appraisal of the loss. In this event, each party will choose a competent and impartial appraiser within 20 days after receiving a written request from the other. The two appraisers will choose an umpire. If they cannot agree upon an umpire within 15 days, you or we may request that the choice be made by a judge of a court of record in the state where the “residence premises” is located. The appraisers will separately set the amount of loss. If the appraisers submit a report of an agreement to us, the amount agreed upon will be the amount of loss. If they fail to agree, they will submit their differences to the umpire. A decision agreed to by any two will set the amount of loss.
Each party will:
a. Pay its own appraiser; and
b. Bear the other expenses of the appraisal and umpire equally.
My question is - why did Travelers go with attorneys after there was an umpire selected?
- Could it be something as simple as the timeline being so protracted? We have emails showing the umpire was agreed upon a month ago.
- I am concerned that, as I see in this community, our adjuster was filling the costs to try to get a better negotiating position... Not sure if that would play into this...?
- The work was expensive and challenging to complete but there are no line items that were not previously approved - they just cost more than what the insurance company estimated.
I have not heard anything directly from Travelers. My contractor has been wrecked in this process, it's been tough for me as well. The idea that we need to face an attorney is rough.
Appreciate anyone's insights or guidance!

USAA - Got rear ended and found a discrepancy in my policy I’m worried about
I got rear ended (hit and run) but it resulted in me hitting someone else. The guy I hit has a tiny scratch on his car and there’s deep crack mine that’s barely noticeable. The guy didn’t seem to care, he was fine, and seemed like he was in a hurry to get out of there before the police arrived. I got his license plate and he got my insurance information but I forgot to get his. Since there’s like barely any damage and no one got hurt do you think he’ll report it?
I’m worried because I have USAA but it’s the bare minimum and when checking my insurance policy, I realized I put that I own my vehicle but it’s actually leased. I still owe a few thousand on it. I want to be honest with my insurance but I am so worried about the resulting possibly financial burden. I live in VA if that matters.
Santander Consumer - Collection removed but not original creditor
Santander Consumer sold the debt to Jefferson Capital, and it was removed from my credit report. Why is Santander still on my credit report and not removed as well? Btw Santander is a charge off account
other insurance company - Other drivers insurance, to good to be true?
Amy guidance is appreciated.
I was driving down a street when a car t-boned me, I spun around in oncoming traffic. I was able to move my car safely. The driver who hit me walks up and says it is his fault. I get my phone out and start recording, I asked him to say it again, he asked if I was recording, I said yes. He said that was fine but when I asked him to repeat what he said, he said it to let the insurance company handle it and laughed. I get taken the to ER just to be safe and I was released shortly. I was given a 2 day work off work note. I immediately reported it to my insurance company. They said they will reimburse me for my medical. The other driver admitted to his insurance that it was his fault so my insurance waived my deductible and will pay for my rental car for 30 days but my insurance will not pay for my lost wages.
2 days later I go to urgent care because now I'm feeling it and I get another doctors note to take me off work for a few more days. I'm very nervous to drive.
Now, the other insurance company seems very eager to pay my lost wages, any physical therapy, all my medical, etc. I'm just skeptical they seem so willing to pay.
What information should I give them access to and what should I not? What if they have me sign something, what should I look for or make sure I am not being hustled?
Any guidance is appreciated. I'm new to this.
