PetPlan has a Plan!

Can't deal with a simple paperwork task so hoping I don't need to make an actual claim. Will be looking elsewhere once renewal is up.

If you’re thinking about using Petplan…STEER CLEAR. If your experience is anything like mine, you’ll faithfully pay your premiums only to be denied when you submit your claim.

Petplan is horrible. After spending weeks collecting documents from EVERY vet office our dog visited, our claim was denied due to a pre-existing condition. The pre-existing condition was that our dog had some watering out of her eye as a puppy prior to purchasing coverage and the vet attributed it to allergies. Be warned, if you have ever brought up ANY concern about your dog prior to buying coverage then they can use it as a reason not to pay a claim. I should have taken the $65/month premium and thrown it in the trash because that is where it went.

I will share the shorter version of my problem with Pet Plan.

As with other long term policy holders, my premiums will increase and for me it will be by 40%. That's not acceptable but I'm held captive because my little boy has a condition that requires meds and monitoring so I can't go elsewhere.

I was a mostly satisfied customer until this contract renewal in 2017. Company changed underwriters and premiums/deductibles went way up. I could almost bank that premium amount in a pet medical savings account each month and come out ahead.

They are doing everything to avoid paying you. Dishonest business. My vet sent them the documents they asked 4 times. I know that because they've also sent a copy to me. When they finally acknowledged receipt, they had closed my claim because they "can't keep it open forever". They then requested a letter from my vet which they received the same day. 10 days later and my claim is still closed. When I called, I was told that yes they've received it but "it has just been sitting there for some reason, maybe the claims assessor is away". Avoid!

I adopted my dog Theo, about 2-3 years old, on December 3, 2016 from a local animal shelter. Theo had been to the vet, was neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and on antibiotics for a rash. Besides being underweight and the rash, nothing else was known to be wrong with him.

I have been paying premiums for 2 dogs for over 2 years to the tune of several hundreds of dollars. They have paid only $70 in claims and have denied absolutely everything else. Just got a visit for an ear infection denied because they say since she had an ear infection when we rescued her from the shelter 2 years ago that the current ear infection is a "pre-existing condition."
