Nationwide - This is a warning from a member with 4…
This is a warning from a member with 4 pets over 10+ years
I have been a menber with Nationwide pet insurance when it used to be VPI pet insurance.
I had a plan that was grandfathered in which was 90% covered with no CAP (this means no matter the treatment they covered the full cost)
They tried to push me out by raising the cost the that plan year after year so I played ball with them and dropped it down to 70% covered with no CAP.
They always stress to insure the animal since they were a puppy or kitten so everything can be covered through their life without any exempt.
So this year they decided to write me that they are canceling my policy becuase the cost to them are too high to cover his plan even though they havent offered this plan in over 7 years and I was grandfathered in.
I was told they will move me to the 70% plan and a 10k cap so if my animals had any thing serious over 10k i had to put the money up. Or other wise I can go kick rocks.
Even though I have been paying over 10 years of premiums for 4 animals and they were so selfesh and could wait maybe another 5 years until all the grandfathered customer fur babies passed and crossed the rainbow bridge. Instead this $60.3 billion dollar in sales for 2024 company decided to be selfish and not cover and honor the pet plans they gave customers.
Its really sad and disgusting that they used the phrase they are loosing money as an excuse to hurt theese animals.
I will say over the past 10 years nationwide has been amazing with quick payouts and customer service. But that dose not fix how they handled this selfish situation.
Pets Best - The amount that I’m paying has gone up…
The amount that I’m paying has gone up and the amount being covered is less. I’m very disappointed in how much I’m paying for insurance but barely covered 40%. The coverage I have is suppose to cover 70-80%
Nationwide - Been a customer 13 years
Been a customer 13 years. Paid $600/month for years for multiple dogs to have care. My dog was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma in Sept 2024. I called Nationwide after her emergency splenectomy but before diagnosis. I was told she would be covered from the top of her nose to the tip of her tail by Angela for her cancer treatment/needs. I received a letter of non-renewal in early October (less than a month from Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis ). I learned on 12/30 that the policy was discontinued several months ago and posted in a USA Today article back in June which I never saw. Nationwide should have sent notices to affected customers in June 2024. The rep in September (Angela) should have told me it was coming. So many issues with how this company treated over 100,000 people and their pets! As a long time customer, I should have been provided another option to take care of my dog with an horrible, aggressive cancer! Instead I was told “sorry” and she is not coverable. They could have transferred her to another policy if they truly cared. She has been in their system since about 9 weeks old and just tossed aside like nothing!! Disgusting customer service! I know many veterinarians that have recently told me they will not support this company. Do your research and do not put your trust in this company!!! Do better for your pets!!
Trupanion Canada - I signed up with Trupanion after…
I signed up with Trupanion after reading the many positive reviews.
As a fixed income senior, I made my deductible high, to ensure my monthly premiums would be what I could afford.
Believing my premiums were fixed, I was upset to learn that the premiums indeed seem to increase each calendar year “due to increasing Vet costs…”??
They have gone up $25/month over the past 2 years, and are quickly becoming out of reach.
This was not made clear when I signed up!
Embrace - Policy began July 2023
Policy began July 2023. Claims had successfully been processed. Then he had surgery July 17, 2024. First, you said it was his first claim. Incorrect. Then, it took months to get the claim processed, citing Embrace required more complete medical history. A summary report was provided by his previous veterinary clinics and there were no indications of his having any masses removed. There was no need to bother veterinarians and their staff to get "itemized, physician notes" and you had no right to demand them.
Now that you have them, send me copies so this doesn't happen again!
The contract states: Your Pet must have been examined by a Veterinarian in the twelve (12) months prior to the Pet Original Start Date as shown on the Schedule Page(s) or within fourteen (14) days after the Pet Original Start Date. Failure to do so may result in your policy defaulting to an Accident only policy. Meaning you will have no Illness Coverage and your Illness premium will be refunded. You may add Illness Coverage back onto your policy once a qualifying Veterinarian has examined your Pet and detailed records for the exam are available to us. This will result in your Illness Waiting Period end date changing to the date of the first exam. No Illness Coverage is available until a qualifying Veterinarian has examined your Pet, and Pre-existing Conditions, if any, may be determined upon the date of the qualifying Veterinarian's examination.
This exam was conducted within the timeframe and you had the detailed records. There was no reason other than trying to delay or get out of processing the claim and making payment.
I was surprised when his annual exam was processed timely and the amount covered. So, I am staying with Embrace at this time.
Spot - Would not recommend
We are still waiting on the claims for our Dogs surgery. This morning at 5:57 am we got a call saying we need to send her full medical history for them to review. We have already sent all information on the torn ACL and the bills that were paid by us all of them mark paid in full.
Pets Best - DO NOT USE PETS BEST
I paid my premiums and our claim was denied on a technicality. It's all too often we are seeing this in healthcare for people as well as with pets. I would absolutely NOT recommend Pets Best.
Trupanion - Customer experience rep disconnected…
Customer experience rep disconnected the chat - would not answer my questions about coverage, said policy docs were emailed to me (don't have them 20 minutes later) but refused to say what is in them.
"Hanging up" on a customer with standard questions is appalling.
Embrace - This was the first time I’ve used pet insurance
This was the first time I’ve had pet insurance and made a claim. I listed every vet my dog had ever been to as requested. In processing my claim they requested records from all, which I certainly understand. However the various vet offices were apparently slow or not responding so I had to contact them for compliance. This went on for several months. When I called Embrace they confirmed just waiting on one vet, needed a diagnosis code.
My little dog is going on 10 years, our vet pretty sure has Cushings disease. For me, the $50 plus per month for insurance just doesn’t seem worth it anymore. I’ll put in a savings account for her instead. I had a $500 deductible and the insurance company did eventually pay my claim over that amount. The company seems ok, just more of a hassle than I expected.
