Spot - This is a terrible insurance
This is a terrible insurance. Don't bother. Constant requests for more information from the vet, just so they can deny your claim. I had preventative coverage for my dog, and they requested 2 years worth of vet records to reimburse for a vaccine. You don't need 2 years of records to do this reimbursement. If you like to jump through constant hoops, and get denials, this is the insurance for you. Also, canceling the insurance is a nightmare. There is no way to do it online. They make you call them to cancel. Terrible business practice.
Embrace - All pain, no gain
The coverage is expensive, but I don't get much out of it. Last year, it would have been cheaper to just pay my (expensive, excellent vet) and skip the insurance. In part, because Embrace avoids paying out anything, it hassles both the paying customer and the veterinarians office, and I ended up paying for both the insurance AND the vet bills.
I've never seen anything except "longer than average wait times" for customer service. It's like they think a US-based service won't have more customers try to call during the day, during their operating hours, and average the wait times for all 24 hours.
For example, for each claim they expect the veterinarian to send the complete medical records of the dog. If you RECENTLY adopt a PUPPY and there isn't enough of a medical record, they'll call the medical record a summary and put the claim on hold indefinitely. It's a two month old puppy in for his second vet visit, this time because he's sick. How long do they think the record will be?
I have never received a check from Embrace, though they claim they sent one for other services. A check that was $250 on an over $1700 claim, I might add.
If you like paying double for the same amount of healthcare for your pet, this is the insurance for you. It's like paying someone so that you can do extra paperwork without any benefit.
Oh, and it auto-renews and does not allow you to opt out of auto-renew. With most services, I like auto-renew, but I want to drop this "service" so much.
My veterinary clinic works with other insurance firms the way human hospitals work with insurance firms. This is not the case with Embrace. I'm not saying that this is because Embrace is difficult to work with and doesn't pay out. I'm just saying that I've found Embrace difficult to work with, and it doesn't pay out and wouldn't be surprised if vet offices don't want to work with them because of this.
The second star is only because they have a nice-looking website. I'm definitely getting scammed by Embrace and will drop them as soon as I figure out how. A feat that is proving to be challenging.
MetLife - Metlife Pet Ins is out for one thing
Metlife Pet Ins is out for one thing, make big money! Denying claims is what their employees are trained to do and upsetting their customers to the point of making them cry! Shame on you Metlife! I have already talked with three different agents about my claim and have gotten no where. Our dog was just diagnosed by our vet with a luxating patella. The last agent I talked with basically told me they are trying to say it is preexisting and we have been insured with you for 16 months! Preexisting? Really? They are trying to bury us in paperwork so we will just give up like we did with the first claim that they denied. Shame on me for thinking that you were going to be a trustworthy company.
Embrace - Honestly this insurance sucks
Honestly this insurance sucks. I feel like none of you guys actually pay attention or care.
Embrace - This insurance is a joke
This insurance is a joke and has never been worth the money. I've paid this sleezy company SO much more than I've ever received, and I definitely would have been MUCH better off just putting money in a HYSA or a market ETF for my pets. Embrace will jack up their prices so much every year that at this point I would have been paying almost $400/mo for four mostly healthy cats, only one of which is elderly (and I still almost never used this insurance for him). That was with an annual coverage limit and a $1000 deductible (per cat). I had to remove my oldest cat due to cost and it was still $250/mo. What a scam! I had felt trapped because one of my other cats was 12 and until recently most insurance companies wouldn't cover cats age 12+. But now Spot does! I went with them and I'm paying more than $100/mo less than I was with Embrace. This insurance is just for emergencies (no insurance company is worth it for anything routine or even for covering most conditions), and I hope that in a year or so I'll have enough saved to cancel it entirely.
ASPCA - AWFUL SERVICE..
AWFUL SERVICE... GOT DENIED ON MY MILOS CLAIM. FIRST TIME USING MY PETS INSURANCE..BECAUSE OF THE WORDING ON HIS INVOICE.EVEN THO IT STATES PAYED IN FULL..
Embrace - Difficult for older folks to…
Difficult for older folks to use…especially under stressful circumstances…..loss of pet.
ASPCA - You coverage doesn't cost even 50% of…
You coverage doesn't cost even 50% of the portion in which vets charge. The price monthly is now out weighing to continue with service even with preventative service
Pets Best - PetsBest Is NOT There When You Need Them
I recently submitted my first large accident/emergency vet visit claim to PetsBest. I have been a customer with them since 2022. The incident with my pet happened in the days leading up to Christmas, and emotions were high. One of the only things keeping me calm throughout the harrowing (and expensive) ordeal, was the thought that the claim I would be filing was surely going to be reimbursed. To my utter dismay, my claim was fully denied. Upon further investigation, the underwriting company incorrectly categorized my pet's "condition" and subsequently associated it with what they deem to be a "pre-existing condition". This is lazy and unacceptable on PetsBest's part. I now have to spend my time gathering "evidence" for an appeal. To add insult to injury, they're raising my yearly premium. Not sure why I bother paying for pet insurance when I can't count on my claims to be covered. Their customer service is mediocre at best, as well.
Nationwide - Why do you care?Just put him to sleep. He's OLD
I see others have already written the harrowing reviews of Nationwides' new 2024-2025 Face! Nationwide basically is saying,"just put that old dog to sleep." I had great insurance for him for 10 years through Nationwide. But it was not clear once he turned 10 that the new policy doesn't cover office visits. Just accidents. By the way, bone caught in throat is not an accident. The new Nationwide policy offered allows me to pay premium, deductible and office visits.Oh, I do get flea/heart pills, but not even veteran visit. If you are taking him to the vet, it better be to put him to sleep, because that's covered. A vet's diagnosis/prognosis is not covered. So you better be a vet, or just put him to sleep because an educated owner is not welcomed at Nationwide. My dog was gagging at night. Vet prescribed Prilosec. It solved his issue almost immediately: after 3 days little occurrence, after 10 none. NONE! Vet did rule out cancer, esophoghus obstruction, and blood work. But according to Nationawide, I was not supposed to have taken him to the Vet. They would gladly have paid for me to put him to sleep, but not for the office visit. I understand the ex-ray & blood tests were not covered, but not even the office visit? So if he's limping, just put him to sleep! A vet could tell you if it's arthritis (not covered) or a broken bone (is covered.) But don't bother, just put him to sleep. He's old. That's the message. You can't go to the vet to find out what it is, and then decide. It's just "he's 10 and it's time for him to go." In the meantime, I left Nationwide, and went to Figo (Costco). Yes, I loaded up the coverage. But at least the vet visits are allowed and covered. The message at Figo appears not to be "just put the old guy down." It's more like, here are 3 plans. Choose the one that will give your dog a quality of life and will allow you to sleep in peace. Shame on you Nationwide!!! Shame on you! It's not about the money, it's about the decency, the products you are selling, the compassion that is non-existent.
