I have been trying to add my new dog with no success
Fetch - They changed my coverage from 80% to…
They changed my coverage from 80% to 50%, increased my deductible from 300$ to 1000$ and significantly increased premium all of a sudden. Very disappointed as this is not how insurance is supposed to work.
Enrolment was easy...price was almost 50% higher than what the commercial noise stated, but it still seemed to be OK. I did the enrolment because the cat is a registered bengal and worth a bit, plus we love her all to hell. However with any insurance two issues are important. Price increases that are hard to justify, and no coverage for a variety reasons when claims occur. How easy it is to send money for coverage isn't as important as what the coverage really is in the end, and whether or not a pet savings account is cheaper in the end. So we'll see.
Embrace - Waste of money
My shi tzu was diagnosed with glaucoma before I signed up for Embrace. So all my claims involving his eyes even when it’s not due to glaucoma got denied. Then I found out that my premium was going up this month. So I canceled it. Then they offered me a lower rate that would cover more. It didn’t make sense at all. I still canceled it. I just wasted $35.74 every month for over a year. Then they charged my credit card for the new rate of $53.67 on the day I canceled the insurance. I disputed the charge. It’s still under review.
Embrace - I am getting tired of repeat requests…
I am getting tired of repeat requests for invoices. This is so annoying when you are quick to collect your money for this policy.
Embrace - Whenever I submit claims they ask for a…
Whenever I submit claims they ask for a history from my vet. My vet immediately sends them but Embrace keeps sending messages stating they didn't receive them. So then I have to ask for the same exact thing and send it with a message stating they were supplied the same day it was requested.
This has happened to me more than once, my vet tells me that it always happens to them with this company.
Just be aware you will have to do more leg work than normal.
Embrace - This company is a scam
This company is a scam. I’ve had my puppy for 5 months. I took her to the vet once because I thought maybe she had a UTI because she was peeing a lot. They ran a bunch of tests and couldn’t even confirm she had a UTI but gave her an antibiotic. The doctor said she had a recessed vulva but most of the time puppies grow out of it.
A couple months later she got a little stomach bug and had some diarrhea. They gave her an antibiotic and probiotic to help her belly. I don’t think either of these issues are uncommon for puppies. A couple weeks later I get an email from embrace saying they are deeming her with a recessed vulva as a preexisting condition and they are excluding any and all treatment of her entire vaginal area as a permanent exclusion to reimbursement. They also, get this, are making VOMITING a preexisting condition ALONG WITH ANY AND ALL CLINICALLY RELATED SYSTEMS a preexisting condition that they will make permanent if my puppy gets sick again within the NEXT YEAR. It’s a complete waste of money. Basically, anything that you take your puppy to the vet for will be deemed a preexisting condition during their grossly long waiting period. It’s just a way for them to collect your money and not have to pay out for anything. If you get this insurance, keep your dog in a bubble for the entire waiting period.
Spot - Spot Pet Insurance has a 14 day waiting…
Spot Pet Insurance has a 14 day waiting period between the time you purchase the insurance and when you can actually use it. If this was mentioned up front I would NOT have signed up. Since my pet had an appointment in the waiting period it's going to be considered a "pre-existing" condition. I would have to wait 180 days to see if it would even be covered because of this. Pardon my French but this is completely BS. They thankfully will be refunding me my initial payment for signing up but now I'm out $360 for a rule that they were not transparent about. New pet owners, DO NOT GET SPOT!
Trupanion - They will fight tooth and nail to deny…
They will fight tooth and nail to deny coverage. I have a dog with a newly diagnosed illness who needed an endoscopy for said diagnosis. They denied covering the procedure even after filing an appeal with the help of my vet. Symptoms are NOT the same as a diagnosis and they based the denial off of symptoms. He also exhibited other, newer symptoms which prompted the $2600 procedure. Not only do I have the stress of a sick baby I am now financially in a bad place. Trupanion is greedy and will say something is pre-existing when it is not.
Trupanion Canada - It's a big scam, very dissappointed from the start
So far my experience has not started off on the best foot. I found out that my dog isn't even covered for illness for the first month because of a waiting period which is 30 days for illness and 5 days for accidents. I can understand there being a waiting period (although 30 days is a long time), but I should not be charged the full price for the period I'm not receiving the full benefits.
Would it not make more sense to prorate the first month or start charging as of the month your coverage actually starts? I get that the company is in this to make money, but open fraud like this is just plain dirty.
Not only are they charging me full amount that month, in addition I had to pay extra for registration fee so I can be "put in their system". Being a web developer myself, I know it costs 0 dollars to put a user in your system especially since the user did all the work for you. If you haven't figured out how to automate this by now, then that is on you and shouldn't be an extra charge on the customer.
Best explanation I got for this was because it was "the industry standard". Basically reaching into my pocket because they know I don't have a choice.
Edit, I did have another complaint here originally but they called me and they explained the issue and I removed that complaint as it was a misunderstanding on my part, so I admit to being wrong on that and I apologize. However, I do stand by what I wrote above.
I increased my rating due to them reaching out and trying to explain things, but I still don't agree with their policy on charging fully and not providing full coverage.
Update:
So a month passed and I called to ask if there is anything my dog would not be covered for him and this is where I realized this company is just one big scam.
Basically my puppy had an upset stomach due to the food he was on, so now because he vomited they are now not covering anything relating to vomiting and "licking". I mentioned to my vet that the dog likes to lick himself sometimes and she added in her notes that the dog "licks himself" so they added to their policy that anything related to licking can be not covered. WHAT???
And guess when they decide that, when you submit the claim they will decide if they feel that licking is connected to the problem you were taken to the vet for at that time. This is just hilariously bad company. I would steer clear from these guys.
Then I asked about their guarantee of money back, they will not refund my first month because I'm 3 days late. They give a "30" day money back, but they wait "33" days to tell you they won't cover your dog, so that they can keep the first month, you know that month where you were not covered to begin with? Just absolute scam.
