Pets Plus Us - Good until they decide to discontinue your insurance and provide you with a new one that is triple the price and way less coverage
I've been a customer for over 7 years and suddenly and coincidently after my dog has been needing reimbursement for illnesses, they have discontinued my insurance and will only provide me with one that is 3x the price and with way less coverage. Before this change I was paying $50 a month for $1500 per illness/accident. Now they have offered me with $160 a month for $3000 max a year. I cannot change this plan without my dog's current conditions being excluded (what I need the insurance for). I cannot switch providers because my dog's current conditions will not be included. If I were to sign up with the same company for the first time I would pay $170 for $7500 yearly coverage. The kicker is that they knew in December that this was going to happen - before my dog's issues - but only told me in February, 1.5 months before I get to decide if I want to continue coverage. Needless to say, this experience has taught me that this is an insurance company. They are trying to make money, not trying to help me and my dog out.

If I could give zero stars I would. They totally f’d me over:
1) they issued me two policies instead of adding wellness to mine
2) they then rejected my wellness claims stating that they are not covered in my policy because I had two (which their sales person actually advised me on)
3) when we escalated the issue it took 3 months and still no resolution
I have cancelled my policy now and going with another provider. Please do not go with them!! Keep yourself and your pet safe by sticking to a better provider. Luigi knew what was up with these insurance firms
MetLife - Worst insurance company ever
Worst insurance company ever. Took a month to process claims, claim was approved seven days ago and still have no idea when it will be paid. I have called Customer Service several times and their only answer is "Citi Bank will contact you". I (stupidly) paid for a year in advance so I am stuck with this dismal company until December.
Trupanion - Not sure about this "Lifetime Deductible"
We have a puppy less than 8 weeks old figured insuring him right away would save money. Wrong. it is almost 70$ a month for a mixed breed. He got sick and took him to the vet 320 in first bills, made a claim, was shocked to find out, that they do your deductible PER DIAGNOSIS. So that means anyone who pays for this insurance, will have to pay a ton up front. Then they taught it as being lifetime deductible so you never have to pay again for that diagnosis. The problem is there are thousands of things he could be diagnosed with, and they are going to make sure each is a new instance that has to have a full deductible for. The only way this is going to be worth it is to insure a puppy and by the time they are very old and have bad medical issues, will you be able to actually get reimbursed for anything. This seems like a total rip off to me.

This insurance company is a scam. Me pup had a mass in her stomache removed. Last year in chart it said dog has black mass ( which was not a mass but spot). They would not pay bc she already had a Mass on her. It was never even removed. So it doesn’t matter now to bother bc any other “mass” she gets they won’t even pay for. Why bother having insurance??

Update: I’ve now spoken with 3 “senior managers” they can’t connect you directly you need to wait for a call back and they all speak with an extremely patronizing voice and repeat the same thing over and over again like robots. I’ve never in my life has a customer service interaction hit me so negatively especially when I’ve been paying them thousands of dollars over the last 12+ yrs. I feel like I need to warn others who love their pets to not get f’ed over like me save your money. Pet insurance is for profit they’re the house and they will always win when it comes to money spent.
Trupanion doesn’t care about pets nor do they value long term loyal customers. Save your money Trupanion is worse than just throwing it away. You’re better off creating a fund and pay a savings account over a Trupanion insurance premium.
I’ve had Trupanion for 13 years my dog recently passed away I was offered a surgery for approx $15k plus an approx $2-3k in services which would have been covered by insurance (less a $1k PER INCIDENT deductible) however i opted to not put my dog through the stress of all the tests. I have over $1k credited to multiple “incidents” so they have never paid out a cent to help with any of my vet bills over the years. I called to cancel my other dog and asked if they could at least back date the bill (a credit of less than $100) since I had tried to cancel the last time I called. I decided to cancel when my other dog was dying and was told that they wouldn’t cover any of the $900 even though it was going to save them a claim in long run but I didn’t have time since I would have had to wait on hold and be transferred. Trying to end an already long story the 2 ppl I spoke to were extremely robotic didn’t even express any gratitude or condolences for my dog that died and that I’d dutifully paid them a premium every month for 13 years.
