Spot - Disappointing Experience – Slow Claims Processing but Fast Premium Increases
Disappointing Experience – Slow Claims Processing but Fast Premium Increases
I am extremely frustrated with Spot Pet Insurance. I submitted a claim for my dog’s surgery on February 10, 2025, and nearly a month later, I am still waiting for my reimbursement. I have sent all required medical records multiple times—first through my vet (VCA Natomas Animal Medical Center on March 5) and then directly myself on March 10. Despite this, they keep asking for the same information, dragging out the process unnecessarily.
What’s even more infuriating? They had no problem increasing my premium right after I filed a claim, but when it comes to actually paying out the reimbursement, they delay and make things difficult. This company claims to be honest and reliable, but my experience has been the opposite.
If you’re considering getting pet insurance, be warned—Spot will take your money quickly but stall when it comes to paying out claims. I will be looking for a more trustworthy provider after this experience.
DO BETTER, SPOT!
Healthy Paws - I have been a loyal Healthy Paws…
I have been a loyal Healthy Paws customer for 7 years, but I can no longer recommend them. When I first signed up, my premium was $23.94/month for the best coverage—now, despite adjusting my deductible and reimbursement level to lower costs, my premium has skyrocketed with no real explanation.
On top of that, my recent claim was denied unfairly, miscategorizing necessary bloodwork as "wellness/preventative care," even though it was for a diagnosed condition. I’ve had to fight for every bit of coverage lately, which was never the case before.
Their service has drastically changed. They know long-term customers with pets who have preexisting conditions can’t switch providers easily, and they’re taking full advantage of that. If you’re considering this insurance, think twice! What starts off affordable quickly becomes overpriced and unreliable.
I’m extremely disappointed
Nationwide - No dental just because he has a little…
No dental just because he has a little tarter???????
Nationwide - Difficult to navigate
For the first pet, it did not give me the option to add another pet so I had to do a separate application. I am hoping I will still get the multi-pet discount. I also had different options for the second pet, with no explanation and my vet wasn't listed which was frustrating
Pets Best - Frustrating Outcome
I recently filed several claims with Pets Best and much to my dismay, they denied a series of x-rays due to a pre-existing condition but the X-rays were taken for a lump on my dogs belly. They assumed the x rays were for her hip but the SOAP notes very clearly state it was for her chest. When I brought this to their attention, their customer service rep Julia tried to help me out and get them to review it, but instead of the claims department owning their mistake, they said I must file an appeal which will take 90 days. So now I must file an appeal and essentially send in documents I already sent them , in order to get them to fix THEIR mistake. Very very very disappointing.
Embrace - Just started with them and I’m already extremely unimpressed
So far, unfortunately, I cannot give embrace a good review. It seems as though they will do anything they can to avoid paying any claims. Basically, one of my kitties has a completely clean bill of health for his heart, but on one emergency visit showed he had a heart murmur (due to fear! He’s never had one since) And they are excluding any future heart related issues from his coverage, saying that he has a Pre-existing heart condition (laughable because the same exact vet took an x-ray of his chest and said his heart is fully healthy, and his chest is completely clear). When I called my vet to chat with them about this and they heard I was using Embrace they said that they are a nightmare to deal with and basically I should switch to anybody else. I am appealing his heart condition on the medical review since it is not an actual pre-existing condition and hopefully things will look up in the future but honestly, I’m expecting the worst.
Spot - I used to give them 5 stars but now…
I used to give them 5 stars but now they are awful to deal with. I have submitted 4 claims for a new puppy I adopted and they require “soap” notes, doctors notes, I submit them and they deny. I bought the gold plan that covers preventative care as well as accident and illness. Everything should be covered. I am going to cancel and switch to lemonade. This used to be a great company.
Embrace - worthless
TO expensive, no coverage after paying $67 month for years
Nationwide - If I could give them zero I would
If I could give them zero I would. Made a hasty decision to switch from good long term policy due to rate increase and my friend’s recommendation. Not only did the sales rep mislead me on the significantly less coverage but when I complained they suddenly had a better plan available like my previous. I was instructed to cancel and apply again. After weeks of waiting with no coverage and no return calls, another rep said a letter was coming as that is the main form of communication. They were asking for additional vet exams
and tests which I paid for and sent over. The exact same bad service experience happened again after weeks of waiting with no coverage and no return calls, another rep said they would not be covering any policy with no explanation even though I just cancelled theirs. So went online and ordered Pumpkin Pet.
Pets Best - The company keeps increasing premiums…
The company keeps increasing premiums because they know you can't shop around due to the pet pre-existing clause. Completely wrong.
I will be filing a formal complaint with the Department of insurance.
