MetLife - Claim Denied Due to Saying CCL Tear is an "Illness" due to an "Injury"
So I recently got pet insurance with MetLife that includes coverage for injury (no waiting period) and illness (14 day waiting period). Only a few days after the policy became active, we were playing fetch on an embankment and he came back limping. Turns out he had torn his back left CCL. When I submitted the claim, it is being initially denied and the reason is that it was within the illness waiting period.
My dog has never had any issues with limping and there are no previous notes in his vet file that he has ever had any muscular skeletal issues. Actually, there is a note that says he had "great hip mobility" from only a few months ago. When I took him in to the vet, they sent his xrays off to radiology and there is a note that says "has bilateral degenerative joint disease knee moderate left and mild right. Both hips degenerative joint disease".
My question is do you think I will win the appeal that this is an injury and not an illness? He did not have any limping previously and it was directly connected to when we were playing fetch :(.
Aetna - Ambulance Bill in Network or out of network?
My wife was in Seattle late last year and needed an ambulance ride to the hospital for an emergency. AMR, the provider is billing me $900+ for the amount that Aetna didn't cover at the in Network benefit. AMR shows as in network on Aetna but AMR is claiming they are out of network. Aetna says the tax identification number that AMR used is different than the in network number they have.
Aetna said this in a message but doesn't seem to make sense:
"If the provider bills you for an additional amount, please send a copy of this Explanation of Benefits and the bill from the provider."
Anyone ever had an issue like this and who can I contact to resolve?
Also we live in Illinois and get our insurance in Illinois.
Allstate - Bundle Auto + Home Insurance through Allstate: getting incredible home insurance rates and terrible car insurance rates
Hi all,
I'm trying to figure out the best way to proceed with insurance as my policies are set to renew in about three weeks. I have Allstate for both auto and home insurance, and I get a $300 discount on both the auto and home premiums as a result. My home insurance for this coming year (12 month rate) is set to be $2270 - when I looked online and talked to a couple of agencies, the lowest I got was \~$2800 with some of those quotes going well into 3k and even 4k. I'm not sure why my home insurance rate with Allstate is so good comparatively to other agencies, though the discount section does mention responsible payments (haven't missed any mortgage payments) contributing to a $600 bonus, and a loyalty bonus of $250.
On the other hand, my auto insurance rates are way higher than anything I'm being quoted on. My rate for the next 6 months of auto insurance is $1262 for a 2021 Subaru Forester. As far as classification goes, I'm 26, male, and married. I've had a single accident just under 5 years ago (late 2020 - minor bump to the car in front of me, and I was the at fault driver). Upon doing quotes with other agencies using the exact same deductibles/coverage amounts, I got anywhere from $770 (from a local independent agent) to just under $1000.
I'm trying to determine if it's worth swapping to another agency for cheaper car insurance, but I'd lose my bundle discount and the convenience of handling all of my insurance from one place, with one agent. Would y'all say it would be better to stick with Allstate, or should I try and pursue a better auto policy?
Pets Best - Is pet insurance worth it at this point?
I currently have Pets Best for two of my dogs. I have the more expensive package (not just for Wellness and/emergencies). I got this insurance over the summer when my vet recommended it. One of my dogs, Eve, has pretty bad dental disease and will more than likely need dentals every 1-2 years. Pets Best denied everything related to her dental due to it being a pre-existing condition. Fine, I guess, although I was hoping they would at least cover her pre-surgery blood panel. While she was under, she also had X-rays done of her hips to check for hip dysplasia due to some gait issues. They also denied that as a pre-existing condition. Okay... My other dog, Cora, is currently being worked up for something. She has a dexamethasone test to rule out Cushings. This test was also denied as a pre-existing condition.
Here are my questions
1. Should I try to argue with them to cover any portion of these things for my dogs? Is it even worth it?
2. Is there another insurance company who is a bit better?
3. Or should I forget pet insurance and just use the cost of the premium and put it in a separate savings account for my pets health specifically?
I should add - I expected to pay for Eve’s dental. I know dental disease is rarely covered under insurance. My vet and I were hoping they would at least cover some blood work and the hip X-rays
Update: I just called and canceled my policy with Pets Best. The customer service rep was actually really sorry when I explained the situation. She even got me a refund for the remainder of the month that I already paid for. I’ve decided to just setup another savings account which I will pay monthly into to save for my vet bills.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan - BCBS of Michigan but located in Northern Virginia
I'm starting a new job in a month. It's remote, and I live in southern Arlington, VA. The health insurance the company provides is Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, because it's a Michigan based hospital. My to-be manager (someone I know from a previous job) lives in Arizona and he said the pickings of doctors have been lacking due to it being BCBS of Michigan and he's in Arizona. I'm wondering if anyone has had similar experiences? Should I take the BCBS of Michigan health insurance (which doesn't cover anything birth control related so I'd have to get something to supplement that) and hope for good choices of doctors in Arlington, VA? Or go onto my husband's insurance with Kaiser Permanante even though it's more expensive?
State Farm - Who to File Claim With?
I was in an accident that wasn't my fault (other party received a summons), I called my insurer (state farm) to report it and begin the repair process. I was told by SF rep that I shouldn't have called them. I should have gone directly to the other party's insurance so I wouldn't have a claim on my record. I'd always thought my insurance company just worked it out with the other company. Am I wrong?
Geico - Insurance wants to total car and offer pennies. Can’t afford to get another vehicle
Title pretty self-explanatory. A lady hit my car in the mall parking lot while I was inside shopping. Car is a 2005 Chevy Malibu with 306K miles on it and a few minor dents and scratches. The damage caused by the lady who hit my car is significantly worse than any previous damage incurred and exceeds the value of the vehicle, so her insurance company wants to deem it a total loss and offer about $2K. I took the vehicle to a body shop to get my own estimate, which came out to be $3.7K. Insurance company doesn’t want to budge on previous estimate.
I get that the car is old and not worth anything, but I’ve learned how to keep it running and can afford its maintenance. I can’t currently afford to get a new or spiffy used car, but I’m also not sure $3K is enough to get a solid cash car that won’t break down on me. I also live in Georgia, where having a salvage title isnt really an option.
What would you do in the predicament? Any advice is appreciated.
The Hartford - The Hartford
This past Sunday, while watching a movie at a theater, someone ran over brand new my motorcycle in the parking lot. Thankfully the person who did, told an employee and waited for me. He gave me all of his information. I filled a claim with his insurance, The Hartford and am a little worried about it now. Within a day of filing the claim, they have switched the adjuster and the new adjuster told me, “honestly, I don’t know. I’m not going to ghost you…” when I asked for a timeline on them getting back to me. Are they just going to give me the run around?
ICICI Lombard - ICICI Lombard Tried to Guilt Trip Me During Porting
I've had a health insurance policy for my mother with ICICI Lombard since 2007. The recent premium was ₹70,000 (including GST) for a sum insured of ₹3 lakhs + ₹3 lakhs bonus, totaling ₹6 lakhs annually.
For the past few years, I had been meaning to port the policy but never got around to it. This year, I finally managed to do it—moved to Care Insurance. The new plan offers ₹10 lakhs sum insured with a 50% increase each year, covers pre/post hospitalization, existing diseases, and even includes a few more benefits. And all this for a significantly better premium of 51000 (inclusive GST).
After I initiated the port, I got a call from ICICI Lombard asking if I wanted to renew. I politely informed them that I had ported to Care. As expected, they started with the usual pitch about how ICICI is better than Care. When I still didn’t budge, the agent had the audacity to say:
**“Lagta hai aap yeh premium afford nahi kar sakte.”**
(Translation: *Looks like you can't afford this premium.*)
Really? Is this how some insurance companies try to manipulate customers—by playing on their ego?
Anyway, I'm glad I finally made the switch. ICICI may want to revisit how their customer support operates.
Progressive - Progressive scammed me
I got auto insurance through progressive and was given a good quote so I sent in all the info I needed and got insured. I then bundled my home insurance because the price was so good. A month after that the auto insurance got canceled. They said that my license was not valid. When I asked for proof of this they said they had none. The state had just notified them that it was invalid. My license is valid and I even recently got a notification letter from the state to renew my license because it expires later this year. Now my only option was to start another policy with them and this quote was more than double what my original quote was. I feel like I got scammed to switch over.
