ASPCA - Shopping for Quotes
Our pet insurance (ASPCA) for our 7yo pit mix is up for renewal in May and they're raising his monthly premium by 30% ($75->$100) so I'm looking to shop around. What pet insurance do y'all have and do you like it? I've looked at a handful of quotes (Pets best, Figo, Trupanion, Nationwide) and they are all around the same price as ASPCA or higher, except for Lemonade (quoted at $81/mo).
His current coverage and what I'm quoting with other companies is; $5,000 limit, 90% reimbursement, $250 deductible, wellness/routine coverage.
Thanks!
insurance company - Totaled car market value - does this adjustment of value seem fair?
I have a 2012 Prius V that was totaled in an accident. It has 40k miles on it (I got it from an eldery couple who almost never drove it). The insurance company came back with 3 comparison vehicles, all were same year/make but all have 90-100k miles. They are saying that the "adjustment" of value for the mileage difference is only $1500... Does that seem right?
Progressive - Unenrolled from progressive snapshot within 45 day period
I unenrolled from snapshot because it was tracking a majority of instances where I wasn’t the driver. Do you think they will increase my insurance based on the data they have already? It’s only 14 days worth.
Prudential Life Insurance - I need to vent (prudential life insurance)
My stepdad passed away mid march, he told me years ago if anything ever happened to him that he had life insurance. The past week ive been trying to figure out his policy number to get more information regarding all of this. I still don’t know his policy # but now have a claim number and they have emailed a document that I need to sign. In order to access those documents I need a “code” which is the date of birth/date of death, unfortunately the first agent got the date of death wrong so I got locked out, they had to resend it again. Today I finally receive the email again, I STILL cannot access it because they keep putting in the wrong date.
USAA - USAA car insurance problems
Basically was hit by one of their insurer. They never paid for an extension for the rental, I’m trying to get it to me but now my adjuster has been changed and never got back to me. Did a dismissed claim and it’s been 3 weeks now and I never got anything back.
For the rental, they’ve been trying to wire but never went through. Now the other adjuster has to call me and never has in 4 business days. Is USAA this terrible
Metlife Pet Insurance - Metlife Pet Insurance - change of address
Just a little PSA for people who weren't aware, when you move you may lose access to your old policy. I've had my policy for 2 years and in that time one of my cats turned 15. because I'm moving, they are charging me a deductible again and also won't cover my cat on the same plan anymore due to age. I'm going from 80% coverage on an unlimited amount to a cap of $2,500. in a HCOL area.
I'm obviously devastated but just wanted to share. might have chosen a different place to live if I'd known how screwed I would be.
Blue Shield of California - Kaiser HMO vs Blue Shield PPO
Hi all, I'm leaving my current job and I have another position that pays higher than where I'm at right now, but no employee health plan. I'm in CA. Right now I'm looking at marketplace plans for my spouse (33M) and I (31F). We don't use much when it comes to health care. A few random visits here and there, I take a few daily mental health meds but that's it. However, we do want to start a family in the next year so I'm trying to keep that in mind. I've always been on an employer PPO, so that's what I'm used to. My top options currently are Blue Shield of CA PPO, or Kaiser Gold HMO. From what I've seen blue shield is one of the few companies that will offer PPO on the marketplace. I've looked at some of the cheaper plans through multiple companies but since most of them have coinsurance, I worry I could rack up quite a bit if I were to get pregnant/deliver. We earn too much to qualify for financial help/ACA plans as well. Here's my question - how much does Kaiser's HMO plans differ from their PPO? Is it really a big difference since it's all in one system? I know there are issues with Kaiser and it seems people either love it or hate it. But it seems like their HMO plan is cheaper with better coverage (particularly for maternity) than a similar PPO through blue shield. Anything I'm missing here? Any advise or prior experiences would be helpful.
Progressive - Auto insurance recommendations - for someone with less than one year driving history in the US
I currently have Progressive but they just jacked up rates without even a "hey we are going to raise your premium from next month".
Erie Insurance is highly recommended but they seem to have strict criteria such as 3 year residency status (which is what an agent told me) hence am looking for other options.
I am looking for good customer service - does not give you the run around when you need them. Decent prices. I am not looking for the lowest rates but at the same time something that is fair. And transparent. I kinda feel cheated by Progressive who slyly raised the rates.
Am based in PA if that matters.
Any suggestions welcome. Thank you.
GEICO - Incredibly petty question about pedestrian (me) vehicle crash FL.
I'm probably going include an annoying amount of detail, so feel free to skip to the tl/dr.
A little more than a week ago, I was struck by a car while riding my bike on a sidewalk (legal in my area). The driver was turning right and only checked to his left. I slowed and thought he saw me (FL allows DARK tint). I was wrong. He impacted my tire and my knee only stopping when I stuck his passenger window with my fist.
My first words were "did you even fucking look?" at volume 24. That prompted a "calm down lady". I saw red about the same time that I noticed his EMT cadet uniform.
The officer who responded didn't ticket him. But the crash report is clear that he is at fault. The officer asked if I would be willing to allow the driver to pay out of pocket if the damage was property only. I'm not a monster wanting to throw barrels into the path of this young man's life so I had the wheel repaired and ignored the minor cosmetic stuff.
I texted him the $33 bill from my very reasonable bike guy. He swore he would send a check. (I do not want him having access to more information than he currently has). Well guess what? Yeah.
I'm just done. I want to make a claim on the policy on the police report. But it's GEICO, which us also my own insurance policy. Will the pidling petty little claim red flag me to my own carrier?
Tl/dr Emt cadet hit me with a car. Got very lucky with a tiny amount of damage. Will Geico ding me if I file a claim since he failed to self pay?
Trupanion - Wellness Plan Recommendations for Sphynx Cats?
I have a pair of Sphynx cats—both female, spayed, and 1.5 years old.
Right now, I have Trupanion for their pet insurance, and overall, I’ve had a good experience with them. That said, one of my girls had an allergic reaction earlier this year that required multiple follow-up visits, and the out-of-pocket costs for exams alone really added up. I reached out to Trupanion, and they said I’m allowed to have a separate wellness plan from another provider to help cover things like exam fees and routine care.
So now I’m on the hunt for a solid wellness plan—mainly one that covers exams, vaccines, and most importantly, the annual HCM screening for both girls. Trupanion might or might not cover that since it’s kind of a gray area between diagnostic and preventive. I’m betting they’ll treat it as preventive, so I want a backup plan.
Any recommendations for wellness plans or other insurance options? Every time I think I’ve found a good one, I come across a flood of awful reviews (though I know that’s just the nature of insurance). I do plan to call and confirm coverage details before signing up, and I’ll also ask if they can review my girls’ vet records to determine what they’d consider pre-existing.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
