Embrace - Hard to get claims covered
It's a huge ordeal to get anything covered. They often misassess claims and deny things that should be covered under my policy, requiring me to fight for coverage, which is a slow and often unsuccessful process. I would have saved more money just paying for my dog's medical expenses outright, rather than paying for this insurance, which hardly covers anything
Trupanion - They don’t cover expenses
Bad to have no help
Pets Best - Don’t waste your money
They deny everything. And drive you to spend even more money to “cover” your pet and then they cover nothing. So in the end just pay out of pocket and hope for the best because they don’t care about you or your pet. They aren’t the PetsBest. They are only good for their bottom line.
Spot - It’s so expensive and doesn’t cover…
It’s so expensive and doesn’t cover nearly enough. My one dog’s monthly rate just increased $60/month with no warning. We’re paying nearly $300/month for one dog and not even half of his last wellness visit was covered.
Trupanion - Think twice prior to signing up with Trupanion
Want to give anyone contemplating procuring Trupanion as their pet's health insurance provider. I have a Bernese/Aussie mix and joined Trupanion when he was 10 weeks old. I had lived in Andover Ma at the time. On 10/2021 my monthly bill was $41.20.
My monthly bill on 5/15/25 will be 279.05. I currently live in Newmarket NH. Think about this. Health insurance for my dog through Trupanion is $3500.00 per year. The reason(s) rising costs of vet care, overall health of the insured population, inflation, the economy and due to " the introduction of new vet technologies". Whatever the rationale, it is hard for Trupanion to justify my starting monthly payment of $41.20 to $ 279.05 whatever the reason. If you do decide to go w/Trupanion, I would recommend ONLY using Veterinary Services that are utilizing Trupanion software. In the event your claim is submitted through the app or otherwise, there is ZERO chance that the claims specialist in reviewing the claim and the medical record will be able to arrive at the correct reimbursement/disposition rate. My dog had a route canal performed two years ago and is required EVERY year from the initial procedure forward to have a follow up to check the viability of the tooth, x-rays etc. While under anesthesia, I have the dentist do a cleaning. I split the date of services into 2 seperate and distinct invoices so as to no leave money on the table in Trupanion prorating reimbursement of the anesthesia @ 50% which is the norm. This year the dentist cut some of his gum that was overgrown. The bill listed as one of the services Gingivectomy, 3 minits/units @ 54.00 a minute. ($162.00 total for the 3 minutes it took while under). Despite me speaking with several intake workers and 3 Supervisors, the claim was incorrectly reviewed and paid as a Gingivectomy, starting a new deductible rather than covered services for a follow up the the route canal. I had spoke to Toni and Megan both supervisors numerous times prior to sending in the claim/invoice to try and avoid this. Now, my money will be tied up for a minimum of 6 weeks while my appeal is being reviewed. Aside from the 580.49% increase in price, my current claim/invoice as well as all of the follow-ups to be done each year will no doubt be processed incorrectly. I cannot begin to tell you the level of frustration I have. I gave 2 stars as everyone is pleasant when answering the phone. I would recommend shopping around to a number of Insurance carriers prior to signing up with Trupanion. Once you do sign up, and in the event your pet has had procedures/claims, you are stuck with Trupanion as other insurance carriers will not cover pre-existing conditions. Frank
Embrace - Review 1. Starting the process
This is our second attempt at gaining the benefit of this insurance company. Our first attempt we received nothing for our first pet. This review will be the first of a series of reviews detailing the company performance at each step.
Claim submitted in under 5 minutes. Easy user interface. Claim was accompanied by pdf receipts showing $1131 in charges. No other documents submitted.
Figo - I purchased pet insurance from Figo…
I purchased pet insurance from Figo through my Costco executive membership in September 2024. When we opened the policy, I spent several hours of my time compiling vet records for both of our dogs to make sure any future claims would be processed smoothly. Despite this time and effort. Every single claim I've filed (4 in total between the two dogs) has been followed up with an email stating that Figo doesn't have appropriate documentation to move forward. They also send an email to our vet asking for any and all of records on our dogs. I have contacted customer service on multiple occasions regarding this issue, and each time I call I get a different explanation. Initially, I was told it's just something that happens with the first 2 claims and will resolve on its own. Unfortunately, that turned out to be false. My most recent phone call I was told "that email gets sent out automatically because most people aren't on top of their pet records." I asked, "is any way to prevent this from happening in the future because all of our records are on file." I was told, "well I can put in a note in your file, so hopefully people will see it". At the end of the phone call, it was evident that there's basically nothing she could do. Chances are that for every future claim we will likely receive an insufficient records notice. Additionally, we just moved to a new home, and I called on April 21st, 2025, to update the address on file. I spoke to Destini on the phone, and she updated our address, but failed to mention that there would be a cost increase in our premium. On the morning of April 23rd, 2025, I received an email from Figo that both of our policies would be cancelled effective May 22nd, 2025, "after unsuccessful attempts to collect the premium". Our plan is on auto pay, and I confirmed on my bank statement that the payment was withdrawn on April 14th, 2025, for both dogs. I called customer service this morning and spoke with Aisha (sp?) who informed me that there was a premium increase associated with our move and that the additional amount was never charged to the card on file. Figo never even tried to process the charges despite the cancellation email stating otherwise. Aisha offered to run the card on file and remove policy cancellation notice from our account. She also stated that she would send an email confirmation of both payments for my records since we've had so many issues. Both payments went through, but no confirmation emails from Aisha and the policy cancellation notice is still on our account. Overall, I am tired of having to contact customer service frequently for issues with our account, and despite my best efforts it doesn't feel like anything gets resolved. In my opinion, this plan is too expensive to have this many issues. I'm hoping to cancel soon and would not recommend this company to others.
ASPCA - I have had my now 10 year old mixed…
I have had my now 10 year old mixed breed dog covered through ASPCA for the entire 8 years I have had him. 5 of 7 recently submitted bills were denied due to pre-existing conditions. I called customer support who indicated that on 3-23-2023 my dog was treated for the same thing on my 3-2025 bill and therefore it was a pre-existing condition. First of all on 3-23-2023 my dog went to the vet for vaccines, nothing to do with the 2025 visit. In any event,
3-2025 is well over 180 days from 3-2023-the timeframe for a pre-treated condition to be covered again. This insurance has gone downhill in the last year and I am switching to Fetch insurance as I have no trust left in insurance through ASPCA and/or their affiliates.
Spot - Had expensive medical bill including…
Had expensive medical bill including vaccinations as well as other services and only pay insurance payed $20. It would be cheaper just to open a savings account and save the monthly costs for future use rather than just continuing to pay insurance.
Spot - Extreme increases to annual premium (50%)
My policy has increased 50% for a single cat that hasn’t had any claims since starting with this company. I reached out and was told the increase was "necessary due to either the age of your pet, advances in veterinary medicine, or an update to the coverage that your policy provides". I compared the new policy to the last and there was no change in coverage. My cat is 12. The premium went from $742.92 to $1,113.72. In my opinion they are preying on pet parents. If you already have a policy, be sure to login to the site often and diligently check your mail towards your annual date because your payment could increase over $30/m.
