Trupanion - Too hard to deal with now
You have become increasing more difficult to deal with. Not linking claims appropriately & trying not to cover things you should be. Making me waste time to call & sit on hold then to argue with someone. I will NOT be getting Trupanion again!!! We will be choosing another company for sure when we expand our fur family. Trupanion sucks.
Pumpkin - Covered services confusing
Surprised to learn with initial claims processing, how out of sync the vet practices and pet insurance practices are, and I’m still confused about what services will be covered going forward. I’m also still trying to decide if getting a wellness plan was a good decision.
Pumpkin - Professional staff, but disappointing policy interpretation
I’ve had a mixed experience with Pumpkin Pet Insurance. On the positive side, every interaction I’ve had with their team has been professional and clear—staff are courteous, responsive, and do a good job of explaining their decisions.
That said, I was disappointed by their handling of a claim for a diagnostic heartworm test performed at my rescue dog’s first vet visit. The test was part of her routine wellness care and was clearly preventive in nature, but it was denied solely because the result was positive. I understand not covering treatment for a pre-existing condition, but denying a diagnostic test—whose whole purpose is to determine whether such a condition exists—feels inconsistent with the purpose of the wellness plan.
The overall customer service is solid, but policy interpretation in this case felt overly rigid and counter to what pet owners expect from a preventive care plan. I hope Pumpkin revisits how it handles diagnostic testing in similar cases going forward.
Pets Best - Very poor
I’m disappointed at how long and frustrating the claims process is. Took them several weeks to finally resolve our claim. Yet they keep increasing my rates. I would not recommend them to anyone
Fetch Canada - Waste of money, stay away!!
Yes they do cover what they say in your policy but beware! God forbid you make a claim. We had both our dogs covered by these crooks for years until we had to make a claim and then the policy monthly payment jumped by over 50% for the one dog and was ridiculous for the other dog after a claim the monthly jumped to over $250 but only after the claim. Of course they tell you it's because of a whole lot of factors but it sure seems like a really high coincidence that both times we finally made a claim the rates jumped up to the point where after another year that claim they would have their money paid back. Every year the claim would go up, but after a claim it was crazy. Our one dog started at $43 per month, then the next year went to $56, then to $74, then to $105, all with zero claims. Once we had a claim the next policy was going to be $163!!! Stay away!!!! The same thing happened with both dogs after a claim. Kept raising the premium every year and did absolutely nothing. Once they had to cover something it jumped like crazy.

I didn’t realize when I paid for the insurance that I would not know the effective date for weeks. I feel this was very misleading during the purchase process (or at least not made very clear) and makes me feel like I got scammed.

We had a $500 deductible with my dog’s insurance, and every time she needed care, we had to pay out of pocket. One night, we had an emergency and the $300 visit wasn’t covered because emergencies aren’t covered. On top of that, they raised my premium from $115 to $160 in just one year without notifying me. They’re such a rip-off! If you need pet insurance, go with Costco Pet Insurance – they cover all visits. I will never recommend Trupanion to anyone.

I want paperwork I want a packet delivered to my home for my file. Computer broke. Im old school. Please send me all my rights of coverage for future vet bills.

ASPCA - Company needs major improvement
While I have had some good claims go through, the most recent one was handled extremely poorly. They will dig through your pet's medical history until they find something they can latch on to and call a preexisting condition. This time it was - VOMITING. Vomiting as a pre-existing condition? That is a symptom of literally everything. When you call and ask for explanations, they can barely speak English let alone explain the reasons why your claim is denied. They will not look at the claim again, just tell you to dispute the claim. I will try but I'm sure it will amount to nothing. As someone who works in customer service, this experience has been less than stellar. A company with ties to the ASPCA that treats its customers and pets this way is sickening. Now I'm scared to leave because my dogs are seniors and need coverage. Very disappointed. 0 stars.
Embrace - Don’t cover anything after you’re with them
Terrible about finding reasons not to cover any conditions after you’ve been with them for a while. At the same time they greatly increase premiums annually. I’ve been with them since 2019, terrible treatment of loyal customers.
