Have an issue with your insurance?
Let everyone know!
Insurance companies are constantly reviewing us. Are we too old? Do we live in the wrong place? Is our credit score high enough? Well, now it's time to turn the tables. Do you charge too much? Will you pay my claim quickly? Is your coverage worse than it seems? We can review you too.

Embrace - I was denied a claim a few months ago…
I was denied a claim a few months ago based on the fact that my dog was chocking and required an emergency exam. Embrace claims that without evidence of what went wrong or why, they denied the claim. Makes no sense at all!
Spot - BEWARE!!!!
BEWARE! I got this insurance for my pet and when the time came to submit claims, I got rejected because underwriting was saying there was a pre existing condition which there was not. I honestly believe they make up reasons up NOT to reimburse you, please reconsider before purchasing this. Oh and to boot, their customer service agent did everything in her power to cover up why the claim was rejected, even lying about what the paperwork said.
MetLife - Multiple issues
Claims take way too long to be reviewed and God forbid if they need further documentation because then they won't look at for another 2 weeks.
I also dislike that when I make a separate claim for one pet and then a separate claim for the second pet the same day then somehow they get combined and it's a mess. And if I make a different claim the next day, somehow it gets thrown on to a previous claim.
I also don't appreciate how when a claim is finally completed it appears MetLife has the option to go back and change the determination and seemly erase it had previously been completed and approved. This happened to me where a claim was used towards my deductible and I therefore had met the deductible and so the next claim I got a small payment. Well, several weeks later now someone went back to that claim and denied the claim so those charges no longer went towaeds my deductible, which I can't believe an adjuster would actually have the time to review previous completed claims when they take FOREVER to work the ones that need to be completed. Maybe that's the problem IDK.
Also, the App is a nightmare. Constantly having to get an authentication code by email. EVERY single time. Can't use the code by text option because I never receive a code, not that a text vs.email code makes that much difference. But the app has a 'Remember Me' click box...and it's worthless. Normally that function would mean you want the technology to remember you and your phone so you don't have to continue to get authentication codes. Doesn't happen.
There are so many issues I've experienced I can't write them all here.
One good thing though is that most of the representatives are nice and pleasant, although they do give incorrect information and timelines and excuses. And they cannot contact anyone about your claim, they are very limited as what they can tell you and help you with
Only had one or two who were not as friendly.
Trupanion Canada - They deny most claims, not worth it
This company has multiple minimum $500 expense amounts for each body part or ailment (four separate claims were approved but each condition had a $500 copay first so we recieved no reimbursement). We had a several thousand dollar bill for an injested plastic piece that needed multiple scans and were only paid out about 28%. When I called to cancel, they tried to blame my frustrations on having such a high deductible (only $350). Trupanion has, like many of the negative reviews, reached out but I have no interest in engaging with this company, having already made true statements about their (lack of) services with their insurance plan. Do it right the first time Trupanion! Trupanion, do not bother calling or emailing me as I will not respond to you.
Fetch Canada - Paid too much for little return
I signed up for the wellness plan. First year claim smooth and uncomplicated. First vet to indicate she had a loose knee so Fetch upped our premium the following update.
This wellness check at vet no mention of knee problem. The vet's office puts the exam in with two of the vaccinations for a total of $149. Fetch did not pay the exam fee. I contacted them, the vet's office contacted them and still no reimbursement for the exam.
My next renewal would have gone up by another $12/month.
I paid $144 over the year to get $50 back on visit.
I have since cancelled the wellness plan and will not be adding it back.
Trupanion Canada - Trupanion denies most claims and is not worth the monthly payment
This company has multiple minimum $500 expense amounts you must reach for any pay out and they deny almost everything that is claimed. We had a $3900 bill for an injested plastic piece that needed multiple scans and were only paid out $800. When I called to cancel, they tried to blame my frustrations on having such a high deductible (only $350).
MetLife - Takes too long than other insurance…
Takes too long than other insurance companies to receive reimbursement. Also, company never seems content with the invoice for reimbursement
Spot - Hard Pass
Unfortunately, my experience with Spot Insurance was deeply disappointing. After insuring my cats, Gwendolyn and Wessley, and submitting multiple claims for each, all were denied with explanations that felt dismissive and inconsistent. Despite my appeal and supporting documentation, their resolution process felt more like a formality than a genuine review.
Customer service was polite but ultimately unhelpful, and the outcome left me with little trust in the company's integrity. I’ve since canceled my policy and will not be insuring any of my pets with Spot again. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for pet insurance that’s fair, transparent, and dependable.
Trupanion - Worst pet insurance out there
Horrible. Use any other pet insurance. I bought trupanion starting in 2011 for my 6 month old puppy. In the last 14 years Trupanion had covered NONE of her medical expenses. This includes knee surgery, when she was stabbed by a human 7 times, nor dental disease (just to name a few). This year my monthly premium jumped from $75/month to $120/month with no notice nor contact telling me this change would occur. Go with any other pet insurance. Trupanion is absolutely horrible!
Healthy Paws - Beware: Bait-and-Switch Pricing That Betrays Loyal Pet Parents
I’ve had Healthy Paws insurance since adopting my girl at age 1. Back then, I was paying around $40/month. Over the years, despite never meeting my deductible and having a perfectly healthy pup, my premiums steadily rose—eventually reaching $93.25. I stayed with them because I believed the rhetoric that early enrollment protected me from age-based price hikes, and I knew it would be difficult to get new coverage as she got older.
Yesterday, I received notice that my monthly premium is jumping to $236.81 in just two months. That’s a 254% increase from what I’m paying now—and nearly a 600% increase from when I started. For the exact same dog. With zero claims.
I feel blindsided and betrayed. This is not just inflation or rising vet costs—this is a textbook bait-and-switch. Healthy Paws markets itself as different, claiming their premium increases are based on broader trends, not your individual pet’s age. But that’s clearly not true.
Only now did I learn there was a class action lawsuit filed over this very issue. I wish I’d known sooner—but the damage is done. After years of faithfully paying premiums just to preserve coverage for my aging pup, I now can’t afford the care she might need because the rug has been pulled out from under me. It’s heartbreaking.
Healthy Paws built its brand on compassion and transparency. This is neither. If you’re thinking of signing up, read recent reviews. This story isn’t unique—just buried until it’s too late.
