Healthy Paws - Would not recommend - they will more than double your monthly premiums
We have been with Healthy Paws since 2019. My 6 year olds monthly premium is about $67 (increasing to $87 soon). My 8 year olds monthly premium is $87 and they’re increasing it to $207. He has had very minor issues this entire time and only a few claims. This is not right and it’s not okay. We currently pay $154 a month total and it’s increasing to $300 a month total. There is absolutely no reason why my 8 year olds premium should more than double. Again, this is not right or okay. We have been customers since 2019 and I can’t believe a company would treat customers this way.
EDIT - I have already sent three emails to discuss this with no response.
Embrace - Is Rejection of initial claim submission normal?
It seems the "Playbook" instructs claim processors to reject for any reason. i.e., I sent only the part of an invoice that was for my dog. They didn't need the cat's records. Then I sent the entire document. A week later, my dog is still suffering from UTI and I submitted the ENTIRE invoice for the recheck and urinalysis. I got an email asking for the complete invoice so I sent it again. I get online and the status is pending more information so I submitted it again.
Nationwide - Nationwide for the money not your pet
We have been a member for over 5 years. Minimal increases over the years. I was just informed they are cancelling the My Pet Protection Plan to replace with My Pet Protection Choice. This is less coverage for a whopping 300%+ increase from $77 a month to $316.70 PER MONTH. My dog is 12 years old. I now have to find new insurance as a result. Nationwide will give you a great first experience and then screw you when your dog gets older. They could care less about your dog.
Healthy Paws - Huge rate hikes, credit card surcharge, from a 55 billion dollar company? Stay away.
We've used Healthy Paws for our two dogs' insurance for many years. Their rate hikes are absolutely astounding and unbearable once you start using the insurance or you're a few years in. Today, we got a letter saying they'll add a 2.99% credit card surcharge to their rates. Considering their parent company, Chubb Limited, brought in over 55 billion dollars in revenue in 2024, they should be able to cover credit card fees. Terrible. Would not purchase again. Stay far away from these money-hungry grubs.
Trupanion - Trupanion is a total scam
They almost never approve any claim. You might as well throw the money down the drain. As per the agreement, there is a lifetime deductible for a health condition. Once the deductible is reached, we should never be charged again. But in practice, they always deny the claim.

I could not be more disappointed with the delayed response to claims and then receiving an email that my dog now has preexisting conditions for issued that first occurred while insured by Embrace and now told coverage would no longer be provided a scam in my opinion

Your online reporting of a claim is not very user friendly.
It asked me to put in a diagnosis which I did and it keeps telling me that "no Diagnosis was included."
ASPCA - I filed a total of 14 claims
I filed a total of 14 claims, but they only paid out on a couple of them and only a small amount—$25 out of a $476 claim. I've been with them for two years and recently decided to cancel my policy. I pay over $125 monthly, but I've had no approved claims during this time. This is the worst pet health insurance; I wouldn’t recommend it because they don’t make any payouts!

Flat out refuses to respond to the only claim i sent in during the last four years. Just filed a claim w branch of California government that oversees insurers. Changing to costco pet insurance.
Nationwide - Nationwide is no longer on our side.
My insurance was abruptly canceled for my 5 year old dog on 5/1/25. For five years, I never missed a payment. My dog never required expensive medications or surgeries. Nationwide was unable to provide me with a reason. They told me I had to reapply for insurance; my dog now has pre-existing conditions. Our re-application was rejected. This is incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I would advise against any policy with this company as they will screw you over any way they can. It is laughable that they sent me this email asking for a review.
