Insurance companies are constantly reviewing us. Are we too old? Do we live in the wrong place? Is our credit score high enough? Well, now it's time to turn the tables. Do you charge too much? Will you pay my claim quickly? Is your coverage worse than it seems? We can review you too.

ASPCA - I do not recommend for Pet Insurance
So very disappointed with processing claims , the amount of reimbursement and overall lack of being clear .
The customer service was great but never could do anything to help. This is not the Pet insurance company they have an underwriter that doesn’t want to pay out claims. When I called to cancel within the first month and mentioned I was so happy I didn’t cancel my other pet insurance I was asked which one and when I said the name she sounded surprised! She actually said “are you serious?”
The other company has paid out on all claims and I’ve never had a problem but I wanted an insurance company that would cover Dental well they don’t if there is anything in the pets file stating they had anything tooth problems prior there is a 180 day waiting period.
Trupanion - Company isn't transparent …
Company isn't transparent about deductable and coverages. I had a $3000 mouth surgery bill, they paid $900.
MetLife - Takes a long time to get paid back.

Pets Best - Takes forever to get a claim processed
Takes forever to get a claim processed. Even having met the deductible, you still find a way to pay less than you should. Rates are much too high for what we get in return when there is a claim.
Pets Best - Worst claim processing efer
To make a long story short, it took over a month to process and then it was closed. No one bothered to tell me they needed dental records - I have no idea if they even requested them. Plus what dental records could a dog have? He had to have teeth extracted - that should be a simple enough explanation!
Healthy Paws - Unscrupulous Company – 10+ Year Experience with them
We’ve been with Healthy Paws for over 10 years, and sadly, they've been very frustrating and unprofessional.
They regularly find ways to deny coverage for certain items on invoices - even those we believe should be covered. When we called to ask why the reimbursements were less than expected, they told us they'd follow up and asked for specific dates/times so they could call us back. But they never called us back. When we did follow up, they brushed us off, claiming we had already been reimbursed - completely avoiding the actual issue.
The worst part? We feel trapped. Our dog is now a senior, and switching insurance isn't really an option. If we go to a new provider, any existing conditions likely won't be covered. So HealthyPaws knows we're stuck - and that makes their lack of transparency and accountability even more upsetting. What an UNSCRUPULOUS company. THIEVES.
If you're considering HealthyPaws, BE VERY CAREFUL. Read the fine print, track every claim, and know that customer loyalty doesn't seem to count for much. Your premiums will keep going up, and they will never help you, especially when your dog becomes older.

They could uphold the terms of their insurance contract and stop wrongfully denying claims.
Figo - Claims denial is their policy
Conditions like bacterial infection of cats can happen over time. Figo straight up denied claims for simple things as pre-existing conditions. Not worth keeping the insurance.
The good thing was that cancellation was easy.
Trupanion - Every time we need trupanion they tell…
Every time we need trupanion they tell us things are pre-existing. We plan to save our money and just pay for services since that’s what happens when we need them. We have paid them for several years and we would have been better off putting our money into savings.
Healthy Paws - Be Cautious—Especially If You Have or Plan to Have an Older Pet
I wanted to share my experience to help others make an informed decision. After 14 years with Healthy Paws, I was forced to cancel my policy due to an astronomical premium increase. Over just four years, my monthly premium jumped 572%. I was already paying $431/month—but then they asked for $776 more per month, bringing my total to $1,207/month.
Like many newer customers, I started at a very affordable $34/month and had few issues or increases—until my pet turned 10. After that, things changed dramatically. Age suddenly became the biggest factor in pricing, despite what I had been told when I signed up.
The stress, fear, and financial uncertainty this created have taken a serious toll. I now face the reality of having an older pet with pre-existing conditions—hard to be insurable elsewhere—because I trusted the messaging that age wouldn’t be a factor that impacts premiums (simply Google this and see how they publicly stated this, such as an article from Consumer's Checkbook).
I believed Healthy Paws would provide lifetime support, but the policy model now feels unsustainable and, frankly, unfair to long-term customers.
From my research and reading others’ experiences (especially on Reddit), it seems these extreme increases began around 2020–2021, around the time Westchester Fire and Chubb took over operations. This was once a company I proudly recommended. Now, I feel a responsibility to warn others—especially those with aging pets—about what may lie ahead.
If you're reading reviews here, take note of how many 5-star ratings are marked as “Invited.” From my experience, these are often from customers who were prompted to leave feedback after a recent claim or support interaction. That doesn’t make them dishonest—but it does suggest they may not reflect the full, long-term experience.
Please look beyond the star rating and read reviews from people who’ve had policies for many years. Healthy Paws may still work well for new customers, but it’s crucial to understand how things may change as your pet ages.
