Let everyone know!
Insurance companies are constantly reviewing us. Are we too old? Do we live in the wrong place? Is our credit score high enough? Well, now it's time to turn the tables. Do you charge too much? Will you pay my claim quickly? Is your coverage worse than it seems? We can review you too.

Spot - Once You Sign Up, You Can Never Sign OUt
These guys claim to have great reviews. So I signed up two of my pets, then found I could get a better rate with my old carrier. Thing is, once you add a pet policy, THEY DON'T LET YOU CANCEL IT!!!
No clear options on my account page, and NOTHING in the FAQs about it. Meanwhile, they got my money and I guess I'm not getting it back. Shady!!!!!
Healthy Paws - Unless you sign up at birth don’t bother
As a physician I don’t trust health insurance policies to begin with. The pet insurance industry is not nearly as regulated as human insurance so it can be rife with dishonesty and no one cares. This is one of those policies. If you do not get insurance the minute your pet is born, do not bother getting insurance. First they offer you no verbiage of the policy when you sign up. Simply put in your dogs age, breed, and decide how much you would want them to pay if an injury happens. Then start paying your premium. They also don’t send you a written copy of the supposed policy you signed up for. When there is a problem that is common amongst your breed I guarantee it won’t be covered. ACL repair one side only and if your dog already tore one side they will never cover that on any other limb. That goes for anything else that can occur in more than one area. Think tooth abscess, knee dislocation, eye problems, etc… Despite, the fact that they say everything is covered it is not. The policy is in the legal jargon you would expect, completely indecipherable by the regular person. Once again you’ve never been provided a copy of this policy but when they don’t want to pay for something, they will send you a copy of page 4, 6, etc… that you never saw. Furthermore, it won’t even say what they say it does, its so nonspecific and arbitrary that it could be applied to anything. Maybe just maybe this insurance will cover if your dog is hit by a car. However, if a vet has ever jotted down that your dog ran in the street in the past… they will not cover it.
I’m pretty sure the people who are raving about this insurance either work for the company or are married to someone that does.
Let me add their very clear verbiage that they think is so crystal clear. Judge for yourself.
You will find this information in our policy, page 2:

the pet policy effective date.

Embrace - I would call quite often just to follow…
I would call quite often just to follow up on things and see if I needed to submit any more documentation or what not and some of the people I talked to were very nice and helpful however others were very rude and came off super annoyed from the second they answer the phone, this made the process even more stressful for me seeing that I was dealing with a sick pet and this was my first time purchasing pet insurance thus I’m unfamiliar with the process and was just looking for information about how things work. I don’t make a lot of money and I feel like a spend a lot out of my monthly budget for this insurance for my dog so I was expecting to be treated better.
Embrace - Claim denied because they stated there…
Claim denied because they stated there was a six month waiting period for orthopedic issues. I don't see how an infection due to a foreign body in the paw is related to this. Seems like the company is all about denying claims.
Pets Best - rejected not one but two of my claims citing "small print" .
I have been with this company for many pets . I have been with this company with my current girl for 7 years. I do not turn many claims in and understand the process and terms. the outlandish citings they gave for the last 1/ cracked tooth had to be extracted. they did not cover it because, I DIDNT HAVE MY DOGS TEETH CLEANED UNDER ANESTHESIA THE FIRST THREE YEARS OF HER LIFE. That is insane. the vet couldnt even believe it and has never heard that before.
the second claim, was that my dog was acting very strange after a severe thunderstorm in the mountains. she wasnt eating going on two days. not interested in anything. DENIED THAT CLAIM WITH NO EXPLAINATION. I guess mental health (if that is what it was ) is not a thing with pets. THIS COMPANY HAS RAISED RATES AND STARTED DENYING LEGITAMATE CLAIMS. I AM SORRY I EVER REFERRED MY FRIENDS TO THEM.
Nationwide - I’m still waiting for insurance…
I’m still waiting for insurance approval. It’s been many days now. I have not heard back from Nationwide
Healthy Paws - Healthy paws is a rip off and has…
Healthy paws is a rip off and has terrible customer service. I've had them for 3 years, and i'm finally going to switch after too many frustrations. Several times, they don't reimburse the amount they should. And when you appeal it, they don't let you talk to a real person in claims to explain it -- you can only communicate via email (can't call or talk to anyone via phone) and it can take over a month to hear back.
When you talk to someone in 'customer success' (not claims), they just tell you to send an email to the claims team. They typically don't speak english well and are reading off of a prompt, so it's like talking to a delayed and unhelpful chatbot.
MetLife - Horrific company, akin to UnitedHealthCare.
MetLife loves to take money from unsuspecting pet owners after being loyal to them for years without usage. This past renewal beginning 6-17-25, has an almost 50% markup from the prior year. They aren’t able to justify the high cost and yet now I’m stuck paying $150 or leave. Then my dog has “pre existing conditions” and other insurances won’t take him. I feel stuck and as if MetLife is exploiting pet owners on a daily basis.
Spot - Never received my checks
Never received my checks. Both total about a thousand dollars. I have proof from my bank that I did not receive the checks and they told me sorry the checks were cashed. Definitely don’t trust their service.
Spot - Filed claim and didn’t get an option…
Filed claim and didn’t get an option for direct deposit so have to wait a week for them to mail a physical check.
