Have an issue with your insurance?
Let everyone know!
Insurance companies are constantly reviewing us. Are we too old? Do we live in the wrong place? Is our credit score high enough? Well, now it's time to turn the tables. Do you charge too much? Will you pay my claim quickly? Is your coverage worse than it seems? We can review you too.
The Hartford - The Hartford
This past Sunday, while watching a movie at a theater, someone ran over brand new my motorcycle in the parking lot. Thankfully the person who did, told an employee and waited for me. He gave me all of his information. I filled a claim with his insurance, The Hartford and am a little worried about it now. Within a day of filing the claim, they have switched the adjuster and the new adjuster told me, “honestly, I don’t know. I’m not going to ghost you…” when I asked for a timeline on them getting back to me. Are they just going to give me the run around?
Progressive - Progressive randomly added a driver to my policy making it go from $120 a month to over $600 a month. How?
I noticed my bill in an email was way more than normal and checked my payment history only to find out it’s the second time they billed me for that amount since I missed the first time (I was on vacation).
I called and apparently they added some random guy. I finally figured out it was a guy I had in my car when I volunteered at World central kitchen delivering free food to hurricane victims. This guy rode in my car once for half the day.
They said they emailed me and sent regular mail telling me about the change. I never got them because the vacation. They will not tell me how he got added to my policy and at one point hung up on me and I did not raise my voice and was polite but firm in asking what happened. I still have no answer. And instead of refunding me the money they just paid my bill for the year with the fund they took. I pay monthly normally.
I did not share phone info or have them track my driving with progressive so I cannot understand how they added this dude to my insurance. I remember this guy rode a bike everywhere and since my insurance went up so much I’m guessing he has a bad history.
How did they add this guy to my policy?
I’m planning to change insurance providers any suggestions?
Thanks for any info
Blue Cross Blue Shield - [Cook County, IL] $250 Medical bill sent to debt collections during dispute. What should I do? How will this impact my credit score?
A few weeks ago, I received the invoice for a medical visit that took place in November 2024. The invoice mentions two items: the visit to the doctor and a "facility charge." The first one is fully covered by BCBS except for a $40 copay, while the other is only partially covered, requiring a payment of $210, after the deductible. The code for the second item is **99204, "HC Office Visit New, Level 4.**"
According to various accredited bodies including the **American Medical Association:** 'Office or other outpatient visit for the evaluation and management of a new patient, which requires a medically appropriate history and/or examination and moderate level of medical decision making. When using time for code selection, 45-59 minutes of total time is spent on the date of the encounter.'
None of this applies to the actual visit: the entire visit lasted under 10 minutes, and no special machinery or tools were used. The diagnosis was visually evaluated. In other words, it seems that the level of service was intentionally overstated.
I only have proofs that the visit lasted within 10 minutes, but no proof of what happened inside because obviously recording is not allowed.
I first tried contacting the billing office by email, but they only told me to speak with a representative. I called and asked for an explanation, but they just forwarded everything to the Team Lead, from whom I still haven't received any updates. Meanwhile, this morning, I received a message from Nationwide, a collector agency, as an attempt to collect the debt.
What do you suggest I do?
* Pay the charge to the collection agency and move on? If so, won't it affect my credit score? If I understand correctly, under $500 it shouldn't. Fortunately, I don't have money problems, it's the principle that bothers me. The health system is essentially a mafia, they can do whatever they want to and nobody cares.
* File a complaint with the Office of the Illinois Attorney General? I live in IL.
* Something else?"
Trupanion - Pet Insurance - Canada
Hello, I just found this sub.
I am looking at getting pet insurance.
I have a 3 month old cavapoo.
I was going to go with fetch until I saw all these horror stories.
I am in Canada. Any suggestions?
I got quoted $108 with trupanion. Seems high. Fetch was like $60 with the wellness.
I notice they all jack up premiums based on whatever yearly too. Even if trupanion says it's not based on age, they can blame it on whatever. I asked them and they said they're is not cap on how much premiums can increase.
I understand it's a gamble. Might never need it but I want the piece of mind of having coverage.
MetLife - Undercharged for Wisdom Teeth Removal
I had gone to a new dentist in October 2024 for a routine cleaning and was essentially "upsold" on the removal of my four wisdom teeth, as I had mentioned they were bothering me. I was told my insurance was accepted (MetLife) and that I would only pay $300 for the removal. I figured that was a great deal and had my teeth removed, paying the $300 on my way out. I received an email earlier today for a separate claim from Cigna, and decided to look at my MetLife portal as I remembered the dental claim being stuck on "pending" for some time after the procedure. According to MetLife, the cleaning and x-rays were in-network and 100% covered, but for the wisdom teeth removal, the claim was marked as out of network and my patient responsibility is $800. It has been a bit over 4 months since the procedure and I haven't received a bill from the provider - should I just leave things as they are or should I contact my insurance provider/dentist? I only accepted the procedure because of how affordable it was and confirmed with my dentist multiple times that $300 was my total cost for all 4 teeth after insurance.
Progressive - Necessary to pay $150 fee and forfeit plate? Commercial Auto Insurance in Florida
I pay an arm and a leg for commercial auto insurance for a child care related business. I have 6 vehicles that I'm charged around $4500/yr per vehicle (yes I've shopped this several times, no there aren't better rates available, very few companies will even write policies for this industry). We don't use the vehicles at all in summer so they just sit in a parking lot. In years gone by, I've been able to drop the insurance during those months to "seasonal coverage" which basically means they are comprehensive only, and have no liability insurance because they are not being driven. Progressive has no problem with this. This ended up saving me about $2000/mo for 2,5 months, all in, or about $5000.
I tried to do that for this year and I got an angry letter from the State of Florida saying that I need to forfeit my plates and pay a $150 reinstatement fee for each vehicle because I've "dropped my insurance". I've never gotten this letter before. Is there any way around that? Does this mean that I'm stuck paying liability insurance on vehicles that never see the road?
Geico - geico kicking me off because I'm doing food deliveries but I'm not?!

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas - BCBS TX - suddenly out of network
Over halfway through pregnancy. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas on Monday stopped the majority of my local hospitals from being in network. Was told to fill out a continuation of care and I would be fine.
I’ve called BCBS customer service and have received either non-answers, or have been told that since I’m pregnant, the only thing they will cover is my OB’s costs. That means: labwork would be out of network, my hospital/facility fee would be out of network, my child’s care would be out of network once they are born. My OB only delivers at the out of network hospital system.
I’ve been trying really hard to find someone that is in network in my area to take me as a new patient due to being so far along.
Any insight?
Root Insurance - Think i'm screwed, what to do (Hail Damage)
Okay so I have a new vehicle, and I decided to use Root Insurance. Usually the insurance websites automatically add comprehensive and collision when you state it's financed. So I thought it had. Anyway, it was liability only. Now last week there was a hailstorm and it did some damage to the car. Not hardcore but it js noticeable up close. What can I do? All I can do is fix it right with my own money? Will the bank go after me? I'm just so lost right now any advice would be appreciated.
Progressive - Was in a car accident, my insurance paid for the damages, then the other parties insurance sent a check
I was rear-ended in late January by a driver insured by Maryland Auto Insurance. I filed a claim with my insurance company (Progressive) who deemed that the other party was liable for damages. I reached out to both the other insured and MD Auto Insurance, and was given the run around for over a month— with MD Auto Insurance saying that their insured had not been returning their calls and the other party stating that MD Auto Insurance was not answering their calls. Progressive got involved and tried to call MD Auto Insurance 2x after I basically begged them to, and they weren’t able to reach them and gave up.
I consulted some lawyers online to see if I had a case, and they all recommended using my insurance (i.e. paying my $750 deductible for the damages, Progressive paying the rest and having Progressive attempt to get my money back through subrogation). I spoke with Progressive who said that not all subrogation attempts are successful, and that they most often aren’t… meaning that my desuctible would just be lost completely.
I ended up going that route because the damage on my car was such an eye sore. I paid $750 and Progrssive ended up paying $761 (total cost of repair was ~$1,500. The repairs were completely last week. Today, I received an ~$1,800 check from MD Auto Insurance for the damages to my car. They did not call me at all to accept liability or tell me that they were mailing a check. So now, I have an $1,800 check to cover the damages though the car has already been fixed and I have paid my deductible.
Should I tell Progressive about this check or should I just cash it without telling them? To be honest, Progressive really pissed me off when they wouldn’t assist me in talking to MD Auto… they called twice and gave up so easily while I called multiple times a day for weeks. I’m afraid however that in the subrogation process, MD Auto Insurance will tell Progressive and then MD Auto will adjust the amount (they estimated $1,800 in damages, but the repair was actually $1,500), and I will lost that extra $300. Other possibility is that the subrogation process will fail because MD Auto rarely answers the phone and has such a long and terrible phone system, and Progressive would close the case and I would be allowed to keep the money in total.
What should I do?
TLDR: I was rear ended, other party gave me the run around to avoid liability, my insurance paid (after I paid a $750 deductible), and I just received a check from the other parties insurance. Do I let my insurance know?
