Trupanion - Trupanion Pre-Existing Condition Reversal Chances
Our puppy went to a few puppy socials in the past week. Today he started having a loud dry cough, so we took him to the vet. The vet diagnosed him with a minor respiratory illness. The vet wasn’t concerned because he was still eating well and had no change in energy level, but still prescribed him some cough suppressant.
We mistakenly filed a claim to Trupanion at the vet to try to cover the medication. However, we were on day 28 of the 30 day waiting period and Trupanion denied the claim. Furthermore, Trupanion now saying that “cough” is a pre-existing condition and we will no longer be able to submit any claims for “cough” in the future.
I saw that some insurance providers delineate between curable and non-curable pre-existing conditions. Does anyone know if Trupanion does this? Additionally, is there any way to get the “cough” removed as a pre-existing condition from Trupanion or are we screwed?
Thank you!
AllState - Additionally Insured Renters
I recently signed a lease for a new apartment. I currently have AllState, however they don’t allow Landlords/businesses to be additionally insured under my policy.
So what insurances do allow landlords to be additionally insured? NOT an additional interest. I can’t find any information on this! And every customer support/agent I talk to gets very confused.
Allstate - AllState Approving Only Partial Roof Claim Because of Past Damage That was Fixed
Recently a storm blew through and did a ton of damage in the neighborhood. Adjustor came out and declared the roof a total loss, however all said they were exploring possible negligence. Couple weeks later they declared that the could only pay for half the roof because they had pictures of roof damage 2 years ago (damage was just a dozen or so 3 tab shingles that had torn off, nothing major, which was since repaired). The next day they just deposited the money in my bank account, however I haven't signed or agreed to anything.
Is it possible or worthwhile to fight this? Unfortunately I don't have a paper trail of the roof repair because a friend of mine fixed it to return a favor.
I spoke with a roofing company with good reviews on Google who said they will fight it for us. That a good idea? Also reaching out to my friend to see if he has any companies he recommends.
Geico - Geico totaled my car even though repairs cost less than the 75% threshold. What can I do?
I recently got into a car accident where I was rear-ended. The only damages were to my bumper and trunk. Geico gave me $2,000 to start repairs and said the shop could request more money if needed. I decided to take my car to Mercedes so dealer parts would be used.
Mercedes told me they’d handle everything, but for two weeks I heard nothing from them or Geico. Then Geico called and said my car would be a total loss because Mercedes’ estimate was $9,671, which they said was above the 75% threshold.
Geico valued my 2017 Mercedes C300 at $12,636. I did my own evaluation, adding in features/options Geico left out and $5,200 worth of maintenance I’d just done a week before the accident. After I sent my report, Geico updated the value to $15,453. At that value, the repair cost is clearly under the 75% threshold.
Instead of changing the decision, Geico switched it from a “construction loss” to a “financial loss” and still marked it as salvage. Meanwhile, Mercedes had already taken my car apart without telling me, which caused storage fees to pile up, around $6,000. I was told the fees would only be waived if I fixed my car with them, which basically left me with no choice.
What made me upset is that Geico ended up paying Mercedes about $7,700 for the initial estimate and storage fees, instead of just approving the $9,671 to fix the car. When I finally got my car back, it was still disassembled, with the bumper and parts thrown inside. Mercedes didn’t even bother to put it back together after being paid thousands of dollars.
Given my car’s updated value, the repair cost is way below the 75% threshold, so how is it still being considered a total loss? I even asked if I could take it to a different shop for another estimate (since Mercedes is more expensive), and was told no.
This whole process feels really unfair, and I don’t understand why my car is being treated as a total loss when it shouldn’t be.
Nationwide - Pet insurance
So…I’ve had Nationwide for my Yorkie since I got him. For five years. They paid 90% which I think is exceptional. In fact, they’ve stopped that practice! He’s had pancreatitis twice, allergies and other expensive issues. Today I received a notice I was being cancelled. I feared it as the bills have been very high. My question is…Now What?? What recommendations do you have? Will a new company accept pre existing conditions? Who pays out the best and the fastest? I appreciate all thoughts! TIA
her insurance - Rear ended at a stop light in California
Good morning,
So on my way to work I got rear ended at a traffic light and me and the girl who rear ended me pulled over. She apologized profusely saying she assumed I was going to run a red light. We exchanged insurance info and number. She then started texting me begging to not go through the insurance for this and that reason and that she’ll pay me $500 out of pocket if we don’t go through the insurance. I refused and went through the correct route of reporting it to her insurance… but after a couple weeks of waiting, they denied my claim reasoning that I made an unsafe lane change which I didn’t. I did swap lane from left to right and as I was merging the light turned yellow and I eased in on the break to a stop… she assumed I will run the red light which caused the crash. She hit me on the rear end and most of the damage is in the left side of my car… I showed their insurer the texts exchange between me and her… I also reasoned that it’s untrue that I made an “unsafe” lane change because why would the damage to my car be on left side?
So I’m wondering what my options are? Thank you for listening!
Allstate - Car Insurance Drastically Increasing
I have Allstate currently, paying ~$300/month for bare minimum requirements on financed car. Final payment was just drafted, and they sent me renew documents. New monthly premium will be almost $400/month. No accidents, incidents, new drivers, nothing. Everything is exactly the same as when I started the policy. Why would it go up so much? I expected an increase but I feel like this is a lot. I’m a fairly young driver (22) with a newer vehicle, so I know that’s a factor, but I simply can’t afford to pay that much. Is it going up for everyone?
Trupanion - Ridiculous Trupanion Rate Increases
I've had two rate increases in a year's time, increasing in total about 64%. Has calling to reduce helped anyone? This is honestly crazy, and their vague emails with arbitrary reasoning is incredibly frustrating.
September '24: $74.57 to $91.77

Pet insurance - Puppy got Lyme disease, claimed denied for testing
My puppy recently got a tick bite and showed positive on Lyme disease after testing. Did more testing to see if treatment is required. Pet insurance denied my claim because I didn’t buy him the vaccine for Lyme disease offered by Vet. I have bought both internal and external de-wormer through Vet and PetSmart with records. I am trying to appeal this but want to know if I am supposed to buy that vaccine at the first place?
Am I supposed to buy anything Vet offered to make further claims approved?
State Farm - Someone rear ended me and denied liability
I was rear ended last week. The dude gave me his info, and we both talked with my insurance company and decided to file a claim through his insurance (State Farm). During the phone call he talked about damages to our vehicles.
Earlier this week, state farm called and said he denied his car making contact with my car, and they are investigating this. I have some pics of my cars damage, some pics of his insurance info and his id taken at the scene. What’s my best move here? It just seems kinda absurd because why would he give me his insurance info and let me take a picture of his id if there was no contact?
Also, his car has no damage because he has a metal front bumper. My cars rear bumper cracked.
