Nationwide - I wish underwriting was faster
I wish underwriting was faster. Once complete and we have our first appointment I can see how I like the coverage.
Nationwide - Ambiguous Expectations
I was surprised after the application process was completed to learn that I would need to obtain and submit 12 months of veterinary records for my pet to complete the underwriting process. While this is fine, this requirement should have been clearly communicated on the front end of the process. The perception is that the company wants to get potential customers started with a "simple" process only to disclose requirements once they have started the process. This does not leave a perception of 'honesty' with the customer and leaves one wondering what the experience might be if one engages with Nationwide for Pet Insurance.
Nationwide - Very good
This pet ins is good i have had it before and i do like it for my pet.
Figo - Claim Misclassification / non-payment
"Feeling really let down by @FigoPet insurance. We chose them, especially as a Costco member, for peace of mind. But now, after my puppy Shadow's accident (ran into a wall on 7/18), they're denying coverage by labeling it an orthopedic injury (30 day wait) instead of a simple accident (1-day wait). I am appealing this misclassification, expecting it to be re-opened as an accident.
Update: 8.18.25 - My appeal was denied. Figo wont pay anything towards my $720 claim. Apparently anything other than a broken bone doesn't qualify as an orthopedic accident and is subject to the 30 day waiting period.
From their reply to my appeal: "Orthopedic conditions, with the exception of broken bones only, are considered Orthopedic Illnesses under this policy."
So, if your pup runs into a wall or falls, trips or has some other form of accident and is screaming and limping and you decide to take him/her to an emergency vet... Unless it is a broken bone Figo won't pay for the vet visit, diagnostic x-rays or pain medication.
I will be dropping my Figo policy immediately. I suggest that you stay away from this poor quality & misleading insurance coverage.
MetLife - Claims Mixed Up
Getting claims mixed up between my dogs, taking a while to get reimbursement, asking me to answer questions way beyond the need to prove I was correct to submit a claim for reimbursement. Your claims page is too confusing - and your emails regarding a claim has been approved should name the dog and their policy number.
Spot - There’s always an excuse and when I do…
There’s always an excuse and when I do get reimbursed. When I finally do… it’s like tiny fraction of what I actually spent.
Nationwide - Bait and switch
I had already applied, been approved, and received my policy packet, then, less than 2 weeks later, you informed me that you had made changes, and that my policy was no longer in effect. I had to reapply, only to get the same exact coverage at $10.00 per month more. If this happens again, I will be looking for other coverage.
Nationwide - When your pet gets older
My experience was fine with Nationwide Pet UNTIL the 2020 covid pandemic in which they used the excuse of covid expenses for 2 years to raiserates more than usual, a recent major hurricane in Oct of 2024 caused them to cancel my pet insurance only to reinstate me for a $100 exta a month and my dog aging and needing a special diet and meds for his hips caused them to review my claim and make changes to my policy while making an excuse. From talking to other Nationwide Pet Policy owners once my policy is changed they will no longer cover "Preexisting " conditions with the new policy even though he has been insured with them since he was 3 months old! Nationwide is the largest Pet insurer that so far in 2025 has made 3.2 billion dollars from what I have looked up. They are making a profit! Many new clients are enrolling their pets and they are now paying fewer claims. More than likely due to the fact they are not honoring their policy and canceling their "Head to Tail Premium Wellness
Plan". So I can now more than likely expect my premium to go up from $225 dollars a month to $500 dollars a month for my 8 year old dog due to a technicalitie they claim they didn't notice. With of course a preexisting clause so the will no longer have to continue to pay for his special diet and medications. This of course will force myself as well as many others off their plan. The companies excuse is rising vet costs. No kidding that's why people are getting Pet Insurance. It's not cheap to be a pet owner with or without pet insurance. Owning a pet now is a luxury.
MetLife - Processing claim time could be better
I love that l don't have to worry about my dogs going to the veterinarian, but the processing time is long.
Pets Best - Incredibly Poor Experience - Had to fight for reimbursement
I had Pets Best insurance for a very limited time. I signed up for a policy in January of 2025 and shortly after, in February, my cat began exhibiting some strange behaviors. After a trip to the vet, they had diagnosed her and treated for hyperthyroidism. Pets Best denied my claim citing that documents had not been received after I had submitted all relevant documents via email and via their online portal. They did not provide any useful feedback to help process the claim and some of the representatives were pretty rude over the phone.
A few months later, after fighting to get my February claim processed, my cat took a turn for the worse and was diagnosed, over a three week span, with an inoperable brain tumor. Pets Best processed the claim at an extraordinarily slow pace (which they said was not their standard speed, but happened to be the speed at which they processed every single one of our claims) and at the end denied coverage citing that the brain tumor was a pre-existing condition.
Setting aside the logic that a brain tumor simply cannot be a pre-existing condition, they were saying that the behaviors that dictated their decision to deny coverage were stemming from her hyperthyroidism (which, again, they covered after her visit in February). I had to gather written statements from her veterinarians, all of her medical records and file an appeal with Pets Best in order for them to finally process the claim and pay what they owed.
In my opinion, Pets Best went as far out of their way as possible to avoid paying what they owed and hoped that I would be too aggravated by the process to pursue the reimbursement. I ended up spending the last month of my pets life arguing with insurance and stressing about how to pay for her medical care because the team at Pets Best did not prioritize the care of my cat.
I could not recommend against starting a policy with Pets Best with more of my heart. In denying coverage and creating such stress for our family financially, they robbed us of time that could have been spent caring for our pet in her last few weeks.
