Have an issue with your insurance?
Let everyone know!
Insurance companies are constantly reviewing us. Are we too old? Do we live in the wrong place? Is our credit score high enough? Well, now it's time to turn the tables. Do you charge too much? Will you pay my claim quickly? Is your coverage worse than it seems? We can review you too.
Pacific Source - Math snafu = lost my Marketplace insurance. HELP!
Back story:
I have purchased health insurance via the Marketplace (I'm in OR) for the past 4 years, same company, same plan. Expensive but I use a LOT of health care. This year the increase was substantial - $990/mo just for me -gulp-
I knew there was a 90-day grace period to pay for the marketplace plans, and I (out of need, not playing games) basically went as long as I could without paying because it's sooooo expensive to afford and I am currently in a "borrow from Peter to pay Paul" situation.
I *thought* I paid in full by the end of March - I had a major surgery April 7 that had been prior-authorized, etc. Then when a friend went to pick up my post-op medications the pharmacist told her my plan had been cancelled.
Finally managed to get through to the insurance company and lo and behold, I was exactly $117 short of what I needed to pay for the full three months. So not only did they drop me before my surgery, but are actually dropping me retroactively to 1/31/25 and sending me my money back.
Despite much pleading on the phone to the insurance company (Pacific Source), they are telling me that because I purchased it on the marketplace they can't do anything at all to help me. Marketplace says they have no idea how they could help.
a) it's only $117 short out of >$2000 of premiums and b) we're talking 10 days past the due date, not like 30+.
Does ANYONE have any ideas here??? Not only do I need to have this VERY EXPENSIVE surgery covered (it's going to be well over $50k), but I will need follow up care for the surgery as well as all of my health care needs this year (ie I take a biologic that costs $8k/mo).
I'm literally panicking here....and no idea where to go for help or what to do.
Any ideas????
other insurance company - Other drivers insurance, to good to be true?
Amy guidance is appreciated.
I was driving down a street when a car t-boned me, I spun around in oncoming traffic. I was able to move my car safely. The driver who hit me walks up and says it is his fault. I get my phone out and start recording, I asked him to say it again, he asked if I was recording, I said yes. He said that was fine but when I asked him to repeat what he said, he said it to let the insurance company handle it and laughed. I get taken the to ER just to be safe and I was released shortly. I was given a 2 day work off work note. I immediately reported it to my insurance company. They said they will reimburse me for my medical. The other driver admitted to his insurance that it was his fault so my insurance waived my deductible and will pay for my rental car for 30 days but my insurance will not pay for my lost wages.
2 days later I go to urgent care because now I'm feeling it and I get another doctors note to take me off work for a few more days. I'm very nervous to drive.
Now, the other insurance company seems very eager to pay my lost wages, any physical therapy, all my medical, etc. I'm just skeptical they seem so willing to pay.
What information should I give them access to and what should I not? What if they have me sign something, what should I look for or make sure I am not being hustled?
Any guidance is appreciated. I'm new to this.
unknown - UK motorcycle CBT to Full A issue
So I have just passed my full A license test and as such now am a fully qualified rider in the UK. I was previously on a CBT so a learner.
I phone my insurance company to update them, and they have said that because of my license change they would no longer cover me, as now I'm a "new rider" and my cover will end in 7 days. This policy is at 10 months, so because of me being MORE qualified to ride, I lose almost a full year no claims ? How can that in any way be fair/right ? Is there anything I can do ?
Progressive - mind-boggling auto insurance rate increases in California
Six months ago when Progressive abruptly raised my 6-month premium rate by 20% the only explanation given was that "auto parts prices are rising quickly".
Today Progressive raised my 6-month premium rate again by another 20% with the only explanation "high inflation in California".
$1800 every six months is insanity.
My car is nearly 10 years old and I only drive it to grocery store and maybe a restaurant now and then.
I'm 60+ with clean DMV.
What is Progressive trying to do there ? Is this legal or outright fraud ? If it's legal are they attempting adverse selection to eliminate California policies ? ( I've read about this for home insurance but not auto. )
What should I do ?
Vanderbilt - Looking for advice on previous foreclosure
In 2020 I had voluntarily repossessed a mobile home I had bought with a loan through Vanderbilt.
Flash forward to now, I’m trying to buy a house and am running to issues with the classification of the deficiencies on that mobile home that I surrendered.
Vanderbilt is internally handling the deficiency balance instead of selling it to a collections agency, which makes it an internal collections between me and them.
However, when handling my credit now, Vanderbilt is now saying that it is a “voluntary surrender with a decreasing deficiency” instead of a “collections account” which is preventing me from closing on my chosen house.
I have been talking with Vanderbilt and looking for further clarification on this because the repossession was finalized years ago and they sold the mobile home and have left me with the deficiencies, hence a decreasing balance (in collections through them right?). However can I have an active and open repossession when the property in question no longer is in my or the banks possession?
I asked for clarification on if it is a collections or open repossession, because it can’t be both at the same time. I was told they don’t know and that they will ask their credit department on what they have it listed as. I am awaiting the answer which I should get by noon tomorrow.
Furthermore, in January they reported the account to equifax as a collections account that is having payments made. In February they reported it as an active mortgage with a severe deficiency and declining deficiency.
I’m at a bit of a loss, my current bank I’m going through is pissed about all of this, and I’m seeking some advice before I get back on the phone tomorrow.
Esurance - Esurance Denied My Claim and Then Reported Me to the City — Total Backstab Move
So I filed a claim with **Esurance** because my **rear porch shifted**, which is obviously a safety issue. I was hoping they'd help cover the repair costs — after all, that's what insurance is for, right?
Instead, these snakes not only **denied the claim**, they turned around and **called the Village of Skokie** on me. Next thing I know, I get a **final notice from the city** saying I'm in violation and have to fix my porch or face a hearing.
Let that sink in:
**I went to my insurer for help. They ratted me out to the city.**
Now I’m stuck with:
* Full repair costs out of pocket
* A city deadline to fix everything
* No help from the company I’ve been paying for years
Just a warning to others: Esurance will happily take your premiums, but if you ever need help, they’ll throw you under the bus and add more stress to your life. **Avoid them.**
Has anyone else had them pull shady stuff like this?
at-fault driver's insurance company - Can a car insurance company rescind a diminished value offer?
I was rear-ended last year, and the at-fault driver's insurance covered the $14,700 in repairs. Afterward, I hired an appraiser, who reported a diminished value of $4,175. Once, I submitted the diminished value claim to the at-fault driver's insurance company, they offered me $300 and then began ignoring my attempts to communicate further. After filing a complaint with the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, the insurance company finally got back to me and offered $2,000. It's less than I was hoping to get, but I'm worried that pushing for more could cause them to rescind the offer and force me to go to court. So, my question is, if I try (and fail) to get more, will the offer of $2,000 still stand?
Blue Cross Blue Shield - My BCBS health insurance won't be active until next month but I need help now, Will I have to pay out of pocket? 23f
I'm on my mom's blue cross blue shield medicaid IL insurance and for some reason I was kicked off last month and now it says I'll be back on next month. My mom isn't sure why that happened.
When I tried to make an appointment yesterday my bcbs insurance ID wasn't working when it always has.
But I NEED to go to a hospital some time soon.
Will my medicaid ID work or are they together? If it doesn't work does that mean I'll have to pay out of pocket if I go before next month.
GEICO - Partially at fault for an accident I was not involved in.
I am being found partially at fault for an accident I was not involved in, and I need some advice. Here's the situation:
I was driving up to a busy intersection where the traffic lights were not working. I was in the left turn lane, waiting for my turn to go. Cars to my left were crossing, and once they passed, it would be my turn to proceed. As those cars started passing, I began to pull out, but I noticed a car behind them, still approaching the intersection. This car did not stop and just went through, even though it was not their turn.
I kept going a little, hoping they would stop since it was clearly not their turn, but when they didn’t, I stopped to let them pass. At this point, I was already in the intersection, close to their path but not in the way. They could have passed me without hitting me. However, as they started to pass and I was completely stopped, they suddenly swerved left. I think they either didn’t notice me initially or assumed I was still moving forward, and they ended up hitting the car in the lane to their left—another car that also went out of turn.
Since I didn’t think I was involved in the incident, I didn’t stop and just continued on my way. About a week later, I received an email saying that a claim had been filed. The car that was hit was a Tesla, and it had a camera that recorded my license plate number.
I called my adjuster, and they told me the police report placed me at fault. The report claimed the officer saw video footage from the Tesla showing that I didn’t have the right of way and went when it wasn’t my turn. I asked my adjuster if he had seen the footage, and he said the attorney (both cars are claiming injuries and filing lawsuits) had sent only the footage from the Tesla's side camera. The attorney refused to provide footage from the front camera. Even from the side camera, my adjuster noticed a car ahead of the one that swerved which would indicate they went behind the car in front of them and did not have the right of way because they never stopped at the stop sign., but when he pointed it out, the attorney claimed he was mistaken and insisted the other driver had the right of way, not me. They refuse to provide any other videos or even a longer version of the video that would show they never stopped at the intersection.
I actually have a dashcam in my car, but I didn’t think to save the footage, and by the time the claim was filed, it had been overwritten on my memory card. I gave a full statement to my adjuster detailing my version of the incident. I also contacted the insurance companies for both other vehicles (both GEICO), and they said they were accepting 100% liability for the car that swerved and didn’t need my statement.
Two weeks later, my adjuster called and told me that, because the police report said the officer saw video footage placing me at fault and both claimants agreed I was at fault, he would be accepting 50% liability and paying out policy limits to the injured parties.
Is there anything I can do at this point? I requested the body-worn camera footage, but it would cost $245 and wouldn’t be available for 6-9 months, so that seems pointless. I am actually a PD claims adjuster myself, but I’m just flabbergasted and don’t know what else I can do.
Liberty Mutual - Insurer offering ~10% of repair cost
This is my first rodeo with homeowner’s insurance (Liberty Mutual) and it’s a nightmare. Looking for advice on how to proceed. The backstory is that a local company installed a new appliance in my home and bungled it. Their mistake caused some water damage to my kitchen and major damage in the finished room directly below. The appliance company gave information for their insurer, but when the initial water remediation was done and uncovered the extent of the damage, I filed a homeowner’s insurance claim instead and figured they would subrogate.
I currently have a wall in my kitchen down to the studs with some cabinet boxes, trim, and the dishwasher removed and sitting in my sunroom. The counter is being held up by a piece of scrap wood. There are some minor signs of gapping in the hardwood floor that is usually hidden from view, so I’m hoping to let it ride. Meanwhile the room beneath the kitchen is uninhabitable. One wall is down to the studs with no insulation (exterior wall), LVP flooring removed, and holes in the ceiling from water remediation equipment. I received a repair estimate from a local contractor for $25k (HCOL area, home value approaching $1mil). This includes insulation, sheet rock, plaster, paint, baseboards and trim, ceiling repair, LVP flooring downstairs to replace what was there, reinstall of existing cabinet boxes, and plumbing. It does not include new cabinets or counters.
My claim with Liberty has been in process for 8 weeks and a field adjuster came out 2 weeks ago with radio silence since then. The contractor has also been contacting Liberty for updates. Liberty called today and said the field adjuster calculated $700 to repair the kitchen and $2300 to repair downstairs for a total of $3k. I understand it’s an initial offer and figured I won’t come out of this without burning cash of my own, but it doesn’t cover the cost of materials let alone labor. And there’s not even a guarantee that my custom cabinets and counters will come out the other side looking the same.
What do I do from here? Do I eat $20k up front and turn around and sue the appliance company to be made whole? I thought that was why I had homeowner’s insurance but this is a real nightmare. And to top it off I’ll be adding a newborn to the mix in less than 8 weeks with my house in shambles and no dishwasher (first world problems, I know).
