Pumpkin - Our experience with Pumpkin has been…
Our experience with Pumpkin has been amazing. They are the greatest in communicating and promptly responsive to our inquiries. Incredibly wonderful at staying on top of any claims.
Spot - So far they have barely covered…
So far they have barely covered anything. Not at all what I had expected. Will cancel subscription if the required surgery for my dog is also denied
Trupanion - RUN THE OTHER WAY
RUN THE OTHER WAY. They don’t cover medications, they are incredibly difficult to get ahold of you have to be transferred 3-5 times and repeat the same story over and over until they can finally connect you to someone who can ~maybe~ help and then they deny your claim anyway. Confirmed that my coverage would take over for a different plan without a lapse and then when my dog had and accident and jumped and tore a ligament… oh well the waiting period for that SPECIFIC issue is longer so we can’t do anything about it.
If i could give negative stars I would. Save yourself the trouble and just light your money on fire instead.
Pets Best - I’m sharing this review in hopes of…
I’m sharing this review in hopes of sparing another pet owner from the difficult experience we had while filing a claim with Pets Best Insurance.
Our dog, Luna, has a pre-existing condition (seizures), which we fully disclosed to Pets Best before obtaining coverage. Recently, Luna experienced a water submersion incident that caused respiratory distress. She was treated by both our primary veterinarian and an emergency veterinary hospital. Pets Best covered the initial visit that morning, but denied coverage for the emergency hospital visit later that same day — the more significant portion of the expense.
Their justification was that Luna’s fall into the pool was caused by a seizure, a pre-existing condition, despite there being no clinical evidence of a seizure. In fact, the emergency veterinarian who treated Luna provided a written statement confirming that nothing indicated she had experienced one. Unfortunately, Pets Best chose to disregard that professional assessment and instead based their denial on a speculative comment my wife and I made, acknowledging Luna’s medical history and uncertainty about whether a seizure could have played a role.
In other words, Pets Best chose to rely on hearsay over the documented medical findings of a licensed veterinarian.
We understand that insurance companies must evaluate claims carefully, but this decision felt both unfair and deeply disappointing. From a business perspective, it’s also puzzling — had they covered this claim, they likely would have recouped the cost through our premiums within a year.
At the end of the day, we’re simply devoted pet parents advocating for our girl, who can’t speak for herself. Pets Best presents itself as a company that supports and protects pets and their families, but our experience suggests otherwise. I encourage anyone considering this company to do thorough research and find an insurer that truly prioritizes the well-being of your pets as much as you do.
Embrace - I have been battling with the company…
I have been battling with the company to be reimbursed for a groin tumor removed from my dog’s thigh. They denied it because they said it was the same as the anal skin tag diagnosed 2 years ago. I do not get return calls, I am passed from person to person and left on hold endlessly. I have provided a photo from the vet clearly showing the surgical site and stitches, along with the skin tag that is still there on a different part of the body. It is bad enough to have your dog diagnosed with cancer, but to fight for the proper reimbursement is so frustrating and upsetting.
Pets Best - Terrible and Horrible do not even cover it
We paid $60 a month for what turned out to be completely worthless insurance. When we rescued our dog—literally off the street after someone abandoned her—we did it out of compassion and the hope that we could give her a better life. We signed her up for Pets Best thinking we’d have some support for her medical care, but when it came time to file claims related to her heartworms, they denied everything. Their reason? They claimed it was a pre-existing condition and that we were somehow aware of it before we got her insured. That is blatantly untrue. We rescued her, with no medical history, no background—just a dog in desperate need of help.
Pets Best showed no compassion, no common sense, and no intention of doing what insurance is supposed to do: help people care for their pets. This company is more interested in taking your money than actually providing support when it matters. Don't waste your time, and definitely don't waste your money. If you're trying to help a rescue animal like we were, look elsewhere—this company will leave you hanging.
Trupanion - No exam Fee coverage includes emergencies
I have always had a positive interaction on the phone. When applying for my most recent pet I was told they would call back to get me enrolled so the waiting period would be done by the time I had our new dog. They did not follow through. Then today I found out where their policy says they do not cover exam fees this means ANY exam - not just wellness exams. So the fee you are charged for a specialist to evaluate? On you. ER visit fee? Yours. It isn’t included in the money for your deductible. And I didn’t find this out until two of my animals are in need of expensive care around the same time. So I can’t even switch insurances because now there will be preexisting conditions.

Pets Best - BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
After doing my research, I signed up with Pets Best and felt I had found a top pet insurance company, one I could really trust to help me take care of my dog -- and all went well for a while. BUT, when I adopted two more dogs, I had difficulty getting their website to recognize that I now have THREE dogs and qualify for a multi-pet discount. As a result, INSTEAD OF GETTING THEIR MULTI-PET DISCOUNT, somehow MY ORIGINAL DOG GOT A NEW POLICY TOO -- AND NOW HER ALLERGY PROBLEM IS CALLED "PRE-EXISTING" AND IS NO LONGER COVERED!!!!!!! Even contacting Pets Best "customer care" and explaining the situation did no good. WOW, talk about being disappointed!!!! Bottom line, since no one will now cover her allergies, I'm switching companies just on principle and share this with the broader pet community as a word of caution!
Trupanion Canada - Trupanion: Legalized Theft Disguised as Pet Insurance
Trupanion: The Most Dishonest Pet Insurance Company You Could Ever Choose
Trupanion is an absolute nightmare of a company — a textbook example of how to exploit loyal, trusting customers under the guise of compassion.
For years, I paid my premiums faithfully — through every increase, every renewal, every promise that I was “doing the right thing” for my pet. I believed their slick marketing about being transparent, fair, and different from other insurers.
But when it came time to actually file a claim, Trupanion showed their true colors: greedy, deceptive, and completely unethical.
They cherry-picked one misleading sentence from a single vet’s note, ignored the rest of the medical record, ignored every other professional opinion, and then denied my claim outright. No call for clarification. No effort to verify facts. No compassion. Just cold corporate indifference.
Then they pulled their favorite trick — labeling it as a “pre-existing condition.”
Here’s the problem: my pet met none of the requirements for that label under Trupanion’s own policy definitions.
They simply used it as a catch-all excuse to deny payment, because it’s cheaper to accuse you of violating a term than to actually pay what they owe.
Trupanion’s entire model is built on profiting from loyalty and ignorance. They’ll happily take your money for years, but the moment you file a claim, they’ll weaponize fine print and distort your pet’s medical history to justify a denial.
To anyone considering Trupanion: don’t just take my word for it — go read their Better Business Bureau (BBB) complaints.
You’ll see page after page of customers describing the exact same nightmare: years of premiums paid, legitimate claims denied, and “pre-existing condition” excuses that don’t match their own policies.
It’s not just me — it’s a pattern.
Trupanion isn’t “coverage.” It’s a corporate con disguised as pet insurance.
They don’t protect pets — they protect profits.
If you care about your animal and your sanity, run — don’t walk — away from Trupanion.
Their coverage isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on, and their compassion ends the moment your pet needs them most.
