MetLife - They don't pay! Worst pet insurance ever!
I have been paying monthly for pet insurance and every time I turn in a vet bill, they argue and don't reimburse as they're supposed to. I'm so upset right now because they have been taking my money every month, but they do not reimburse you! My vet has repeatedly sent them everything they needed, and even talked to them on the phone (8 times). They just kept finding every excuse to not pay. I do not recommend them! There's much better pet insurance out there. Met pet insurance, is a joke!! They owe me over $1,600.00.
Trupanion - Happy with TrupanionTrupanion answers quickly
Trupanion answers quickly. They seem quite fair to me. It is reassuring to me to have them in the background if a big medical expense for my dog occurs. That is really what pet insurance is all about.
Embrace - Thieves
We purchased our fur baby at 8 weeks, he had blood work done by our vet and had elevated liver numbers. He came to us with insurance for 30 days, after that time I switched to Embrace because I had another dog insured with them . Our baby was never sick until over 16 months later and then had pancreatic. Embrace denied the claim because he had a history of elevated liver enzymes even though that had never made him sick. Really check what you are getting because I truely believe this was unfair. I now know there are a few great companies that only have 6 month wait on previous conditions but in my dogs case there was not any previous problems or symptoms except for slightly high liver enzymes.
Spot - Not worth paying for
Not worth paying so much for when you don’t fully reimburse for the standard issues that happen multiple times a year or when we provide medical notes that say why our pet needs medication or procedures. Ie getting fecal test when our pet had diarrhea for a week wasn’t covered because they already had a fecal test this year.
Trupanion - Very,very expensive and with the…
Very, very expensive and with the deductibles and no regular visits or check up’s covered, they barely cover anything.
Will be looking elsewhere for better insurance that does not fleece you.
MetLife - Denied claim …
I submitted a claim that clearly stated the reason was Ear infection. Someone decided it was Environmental Allergy and denied it. I chatted online and he said send SOAP notes, which I did. Denied again and, per phone call, now they say it was denied due to a Preexisting condition. I've had insurance with them for more than a year. Are they saying she's had an ear infection that long? Really? Now I have to jump through hoops to appeal?? Unbelievable!!
MetLife - Claim speed is getting bad.
We've had met life for the entirety of one of our pups life. We got it the day we got him. You would think that given the fact that we've made claims for every vet visit and all his issues for the last 2 years, they would have all records on file and payouts would be pretty prompt - within the 3-5 day window that's advertised. But no. In the last year I would say only 1-2 claims here and there are within that window. Most are drug out for 10 days or more. And when emergencies come up and we drain our account for it, time is everything hence the reason for insurance to help with these costs. But they keep us in a bind by dragging out the payment. They say they need documents from the vet, but I've uploaded every receipt and soap note he's ever got, yet every time "more information is needed".
Now that being said, they have been good about actually paying claims without a bunch of run around. Customer service is generally nice - minus some issues when a dog died, and we rescued another dog. It seems there is a big lack of communication. Take it from me. If you find yourself in a situation where a dog passes, remove them from your policy after the end of life claim. Make sure they are off the policy before adding a new dog. It will save you so much headache.
In short. Payment speed and training seems to be the biggest flaws. And for reference the first year we had them we never waited more than the advertised 3-5 days for reimbursement. We didnt change the documents we uploaded or the vets we used (we use the same 2 offices for everything). Met life has just chosen to slow down on the reimbursement for some reason. They also don't tell you why the claim is drug out unless you call in - in which they always say more information needed from the vet.
Embrace - Frustrating process to receive claims
Frustrating process to receive claims. They have yet to refund my claims and it's been over 4 months.
Embrace - Claim Process Take a Bit of Work
Requesting a claim is easy. However, they don't let you submit the medical records from your vet. They email your vet and CC you. My vet submitted medical records for 2 dates. They only approved the 1st one. They continue to email the 2nd one. I have emailed them, uploaded my document myself and messaged them. They continue to email my vet and say it will be on "hold." It is a lot of work on your end to submit a claim.
Spot - Hard to navigate website
Hard to navigate website. Should have a section for “other” so that clients can better explain why they are submitting a claim as some of the listed reason’s doesn’t seem to apply. Customer Service Rep was great however, the explanation given for questions asked didn’t really make sense when requesting mental information 2 years ago, when a claim for submitted/paid and that information wasn’t required.
