Insurance companies are constantly reviewing us. Are we too old? Do we live in the wrong place? Is our credit score high enough? Well, now it's time to turn the tables. Do you charge too much? Will you pay my claim quickly? Is your coverage worse than it seems? We can review you too.

Trupanion Canada - Repeated Denials for Previously Covered Condition
I’m extremely disappointed with the inconsistent and misleading practices of this company. My pet’s condition has been covered multiple times in the past, and I’ve successfully appealed similar denials for the same diagnosis and treatment. Despite this clear history of coverage, my most recent claim was inexplicably denied. This inconsistency shows a lack of integrity and reliability. It appears the company prioritizes avoiding payouts over honoring its own policies or supporting pet owners who depend on them.
MetLife - Coverage is good but there is alot of room for improvement
I have liked the coverage and customer service when ive called in however the time from claim submittal to being reimbursed is fairly long, the system used to pre-sort the uploaded documents is flawed and causes issue, ive had entire claims completely lost after receiving confirmation of submitting, and with a 65% increase in my premiums after the first year of working with yall it feels a bit like bait and switch pricing wise
Embrace - Considering Switching
The response time for Embrace is great, but like any insurance company, they are always looking to tie claims to preexisting conditions which in some situation aren't the case. Just because one of multiple symptoms may be a preexisting condition, shouldn't make the entire claim tied to that one condition. For example my pup had a pancreatis attach which resulted in numerous tests, medications, and a hospital stay. Because he had diarrhea for a portion of the 5 days he was in and out of the hospital, the entire $4500 claim was denied. The nausea wasn't diarrhea related, the ultrasounds, xrays, food enticing medication, multiple pain relievers, all had absolutely nothing to do with diarrhea, yet the entire claim was denied with the rationale of preexisting diarrhea. This is frustrating and feels like railroading. I've actually considered switching insurance companies because of it.
Reply: I did reach out to fight the claim and to better understand why none of it was approved. I was told because he had diarrhea during the course of his stay the claim decision wouldn't change.
Healthy Paws - Avoid
Avoid. They will increase the price exponentially as your pet ages. It started at at $30 and now it’s over $220 and that is after decreasing reimbursement level and increasing deductible. They also use your reimbursement level towards your deductible so if your deductible is $1000 and your reimbursement level is 50%, you really have to pay $2000 before insurance kicks in (this is not how most insurances work). I’ve had this insurance the whole life of my dog and regret every month, but now I need to keep it since she is so old. Do your research before getting insurance.
MetLife - The policy is difficult to understand
The policy is difficult to understand. Thought medications such as heartworm would be covered but it is not as the coverage falls under prevention or some such thing. In short, not simple and clear what is and isn't covered
Fetch - Adopted a dog from Anti-Cruelty of…
Adopted a dog from Anti-Cruelty of Chicago. At the tail end of the paperwork process, Ken comes in and makes a pitch for Fetch Pet Insurance. Cost quoted was $26. We said I'd like to think about it, he said no problem and he would send an email in case we decided to move forward that we could either contact him through or click a link.
A couple of days later we decided to get the insurance and my wife said we never got an email from him. Tried to reach him for 2 days before he finally returned my call. Most of the time my calls went direct to voicemail. Seems he was busy and his phone had died. Said he'd sent an email but, would send it again. We verified the email was correct. Here we are a week later and still no email and he does not return calls. Most of the time, again, my calls go directly to voicemail as Ken has said he has frequently been too busy to charge his phone and it winds up dead. Imagine that.
I've made two calls to Fetch customer service. Per their CSR, there should have been a quote in their system that generated off of the quote we had gotten from Ken. It should have been filed by the email Ken had for us. This shouldn't be a surprise at this point, there was no quote in the system. The first guy didn't give a damn but, would be happy to sell me a policy for the $42 I'd been quoted by their online system. The second guy seemed irate about our experience and was able to get the price down to $35. However, at this point I'm pretty well ticked off that Fetch's negligent employee is going to cost us $9 a month so I declined. He told me he would have a manager call me on Monday.
This second call took place on Saturday. It's now Wednesday. I still haven't heard from a manager. Actually, at this point, I'm not expecting to.
Ken was super nice in our interactions with him over the two days we were at the shelter looking at dogs. Apparently he doesn't understand the way sales jobs work or his part in the system.
We think we will still buy a policy for this dog. We have already scratched Fetch off our list so the search will go quicker. The way we look at it, if they have this much of a problem before the sale, I can't even imagine how bad are they going to be when it comes time to reimburse for a bill.
MetLife - Sky high prices
Sky high prices. Increased the monthly prices over &50 and did NOT NOTIFY THE PET OWNERS. Scammers
MetLife - I was impressed then I wasn’t
I was impressed with them but after just 1 year their rates went up! Not just a little either. I now pay $60 more a month. They blamed it on the vet raising their prices but I ask my vet and they said their prices have remained the same. My older dog had to have some dental surgery and it was a tad pricey and to me they are like any insurance company that as soon as you file a claim on them, they will raise your policy and that’s what they did then they’ll lie to you and tell you this is why they did it. Trust me I was P.O. Stated that they sent an email out saying that the prices were going out, but I never got anything. I went back through all my emails. I got nothing.. they raised one of my animals so for a total of 60 more dollars a month which they think people are rich I guess and they don’t really care if you leave them or not I’m telling you right now just now after a year, your insurance prices will go up regardless.
Healthy Paws - I have had Healthy Paws for past 10…
I have had Healthy Paws for past 10 years. Since they have been bought out by Chubb they are no lon ger the company they use to be. My dog is 10 years old and my premium went up 150% this year with no claims. This company wants to lure you in when you pet is young then raise you premiums so high you can no longer afford it when they get older. Owner look else where when insuring your pet.
