Nationwide - Why I didn’t go with Nationwide for my new puppy
I had a great experience with Nationwide for my previous dog, who had epilepsy and developed a lot of complications. We hit our plan’s annual limit halfway through the year, every year — and they paid out thousands without much hassle. Genuinely smooth process.
So naturally, when I got my new puppy (Alfie), I went back to get a quote. But they quoted me over $200/month. I’m guessing it’s because of my history of high claims, even though this is a totally new dog and policy.
I ended up going with Lemonade (for wellness/preventative) and Trupanion (for emergencies/accidents), and I’m paying less than $100 total per month.
Just wanted to share in case others are running into similar pricing surprises with Nationwide. Happy to answer questions about my setup!
Progressive - Gap + Auto Insurance, Totaled Car
So the story goes: My friend in Texas totaled his car by hitting a mailbox. He has Gap insurance from the dealership, and auto insurance from progressive.
Auto insurance agent told him they're going to pay the dealership instead of him.
Can friend demand direct payment to himself, as the policyholder? Can his insurance just send the check somewhere else like that?
The gap insurance should handle everything on the dealership side, so I don't know why his insurance company would be giving the dealership anything.
Nationwide - Experience with Nationwide?
Hi y’all. I recently opted to cover my cat. I’m paying a bit more than I’d like to, but I’m willing to keep the policy if it’s a good investment. My cat has a preexisting condition they won’t cover. That sucks. Online I’m seeing customers were dropped due to aging pets.
What are your experiences with this company? Is it ok or should I run in the other direction?
Blue Cross Blue Shield Florida - Moving & Pregnant SOs

Embrace - Embrace pet insurance
I got an email for my claim today saying my cat showed signs for diabetes at her exam in sept (I posted a pic of the exam notes on left and the email from embrace today on right). I don’t see anywhere it says she had diabetes. She was throwing up, but vet never said she showed signs of diabetes. My cat became diabetic late Jan, early Feb and is already in remission. Should I fight this (get a note from the vet)? Has anyone heard of successful stories?
Geico - Geico Auto insurance
I was in a non injury auto collision accident with another vehicle. My car sustained much worse damage than the other car. I went to get an estimate at SHOP A and it's $3,000 to fix and only need 4 days. I then filed a claim through my Geico insurance. They say there is no fault on either party so we have to pay through our own coverage. Geico has set me up with their Auto Repair Xpress (ARX) locations. The ARX shop says it may take 2 weeks of back and forth with Geico to get my car back. And I'd need to get my own rental since my insurance doesn't cover rentals. My question is, can I use SHOP A and use Geico? Or do I have to go through ARX? How will Geico determine how much they will pay for if they don't inspect my car?
Nationwide - Looking for alternatives
We recently adopted a new puppy. We went to add her to our nationwide policy and payout after deductible is only 70% now. And the policy works as a reimbursement system. If I remember correctly, deductible is $250 and premium is $1000 a year.
Is there anything better? Obviously we want to get something affordable that won’t go up ridiculously high as she gets older. Thanks!
State Farm - Body shop overcharging, insurance doesn’t want to cover all of it? (Total loss)
Taken place in TX with State Farm. Got rear ended. Driver claimed liability. Car is a total loss. Body shop is asking for $2100 and insurance is only willing to cover $1400 and the rest out of pocket. I don’t want to pay out of pocket or through my car settlement, how can I get them to cover the whole amount? I had a rental car for a few days up until I was notified my car was a total loss and insurance doesn’t cover for it after that so I returned it. Am I also able to get reimbursed for transportation i.e rental car or uber?
The other driver's insurance - Drunk driver hit my parked truck — now I’m missing work and rental coverage is being denied. What can I do?
Last Sunday, I was having dinner with family when a drunk driver left the restaurant parking lot and decided to take my parked truck with him. Thankfully, nobody was in the vehicle, but the damage was significant — around $6,000 according to the repair shop.
The other driver's insurance accepted liability and is covering the damages to my truck, which is good. But here’s where it gets frustrating.
I live alone in a rural area and have no other transportation. I work weekend shifts (Friday–Sunday) with regular overtime (usually two extra 12-hour days). Because I had no vehicle, I missed work this weekend. The truck was towed to the shop, but they can’t begin repairs until *two Mondays from now*.
The insurance company told me they won’t cover a rental car until repairs actually begin, even though their policyholder was 100% at fault and drunk. How is that fair? I'm out two weeks of transportation and potentially $1,800 in lost wages because of this.
I’ve never filed a claim before, and I feel totally lost in this process. Some questions:
1. Can I push the insurance company to cover a rental now, not just when repairs start?
2. Is there a way to claim lost wages due to this incident? I have no PTO, and this is directly affecting my livelihood.
3. Should I be speaking to an attorney about this, or is there another route to escalate the claim?
Any advice or guidance would be really appreciated.
Update- I live in Maine but the accident happened in new Hampshire if that makes a difference.
Healthy Paws Pet Insurance - Healthy paws pet insurance
Is it even legal for Healthy Paws pet insurance to increase premiums at almost 200% in CA? This is outrageously high!! Anyone experiencing the same?
