Progressive - Car Rental Charged Me Total Rental Fee AFTER Insurance Paid For It?
First time posting on Reddit, and not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, if not I apologize, please direct me to the right place if that's the case.
So I'm in LA and I have Progressive Car Insurance.
Here's the situation:
I got rear-ended back in February, the other driver was fully responsible for it, I went through the whole insurance claim process and got my car repaired, and because my insurance has $1500 car rental allowance during repair, they got me a rental car for about a month while my car was under repair. the car rental company was Midway Car Rental (The one my collision body shop is using.)
Everything went smoothly back then and I even got my deductible on time from Progressive, I returned the rental car when my car was ready, they checked the rental car, no extra fee needed, no issue at all.
Then out of no where, last week the car rental company charged me THE FULL RENTAL PRICE to my credit card I put on file (I used that for the deposit.) I called them, they said they have been asking my insurance to pay the rental fee for months and they never paid, that's why they charged my credit card. I called my claim rep, he said they paid the car rental on 7/15, which was 10+ days ago, the rep is also baffled by the unexpected charge. I checked my Progressive app and can see the $1500 rental reimbursement under my payout summary, and it did say 7/15/2025.
I am not sure what's going on and what to do in this situation. Both side claimed that they're not the problem (well expected) the car rental is asking me to ask my rep for proof of payment and send to them or else "they can't do anything about it", I passed the message and all the info to my claim rep, he said he's on it but then nothing happened and he's now not available through phone somehow. Im very confused and somehow been put in the middle as a mediator??
I really need the car rental to cancel this charge on my credit card. It's an foreign credit card and I need to pay it off soon, and this expected charge is seriously messing up my payment plan this month. But it seems like both party needs to investigate or negotiate this for some time, and they're not very cooperative and helpful.
Any suggestions, advice?
Geico - Trying to get a Letter of Experience from Geico for an auto insurance policy from ~15 years ago. Am I SOL?
# Update: Solved! Emailing customer support directly did the trick! Cheers to the awesome customer service reps who took the time to dig through old files and find my old policy based on my very scattered recollection of what email address or phone number it might've been associated with. Lesson learned: keep records, even beyond when you think you'll need them!
Hi r/insurance,
I'm currently trying to track down Letters of Experience from all my previous auto insurance providers in the US (to lower the cost of premiums in a new country where I've yet to establish much of a history of driving experience).
I called Geico, who was my first provider from \~2006 to 2010 when I first got my license, but the customer service rep I spoke with said that any customer information that old would have been archived, and she was unable to find me in her system.
(For context, after 2010, I moved abroad and relied on public transportation, so had no need for auto insurance — hence why I'm jumping through hoops trying to track down such old information.)
Has anyone run into this? Did you have any recourse for requesting files be unarchived and a Letter of Experience generated? Any suggestions appreciated!
Nationwide - Need pet insurance advice regarding bird “preexisting conditions issue”
My parrot was diagnosed with avian chlamidiya at 2 months. He went through medication and was fine. I have nationwide insurance
Nationwide says I cannot get that removed without another expensive chlamidiya test that won’t be covered.
Recently I was very sick and while I was sick my bird got sick. I took him to the vet and they gave him different meds and said it’s most likely a respiratory infection, which is also what I had. They specifically put that it was a respiratory infection and not chlamidiya which a pretty serious infection.
Nationwide marked it the same as chlamidiya and refused to cover it, said it was preexisting.
There are a billion things that cause a respiratory infection in birds. It’s not fair that every single thing he can catch will be lumped in with a very serious condition that he had when he was 2 months.
They told me I need the SOAP notes and a letter from the vet which I will be getting.
But I will be looking for a different carrier for pet insurance because this is obscene and I already have a $250 deductible with this I wasn’t even getting anything back this was to just go onto the deductible!!
I appreciate any help you all can help because I’m at my wits end here I’m going through way too much and I can’t take anymore
State Farm - State Farm cancelling Auto policy - best way to seek new coverage?
I've been with State Farm for several years, but almost 3 years ago we had a series of accidents that we're not our fault, but were caused by phantom drivers or road hazards. Last summer, I was at fault in backing into a car bumper. My agent says the underwriter's are cancelling because they've paid out over $100k.
Kinda late, don't ya think! We've been almost 2 years without anything major - the bumper was less than $2k.
My credit is not that great. I see a lot of aggregators that will give you quotes for multiple insurance companies. What's the best way to get insurance at a reasonable cost? I'm over 60 sand in a domestic partnership.
Medicare - We're my HIPAA rights violated? Medical info sent to wrong address.
Location: Indiana
I have just been informed that my son's great grandma (who has never ever had her address used for our Medicare nor been approved to know anything about his or my medical info) has been receiving all of our Medicare information.
I have over 5 letters for both him and I in regards to our benefit explanations, they even stopped his benefits and I had no idea!!! I'm upset because he has an upcoming appointment very soon for his 18 month check up and I don't even know if he will be covered by then.
I have no idea how they even got her address. She recently moved, and I didn't even know her new address. But somehow, they have all went to her.
I'm so confused as to how this has happened?! And I'm really mad that she had (if she chose to open the mail, but she did not open any of it) complete access to our information like that.
What can I do about this? I plan on calling Medicare tomorrow but I really think this is a huge issue and I'm pissed honestly.
State Farm - claim on house with state farm
adjuster trying to say a hail storm a week after wind storm (prior hail was photographed 3 weeks ago) would require a double deductible. is this common practice with state farm trying to get out of paying even half of what it costs for a new roof
Progressive - Diminished value claim denied because I'm not selling the car - is that legal??
I live in Colorado and was in an accident where the other driver admitted fault. Their insurance company (Progressive) accepted full liability, paid for the repairs, and told me I could file a diminished value claim once repairs were completed.
I filed the claim with an independent appraisal from a DV business that valued my loss at about $4,000. Now, Progressive is denying it, saying I’m “not eligible” because I’m keeping the vehicle and not selling or trading it right now. Their email says:
> “As you are keeping the vehicle and not trading it in or selling it, there is no way to measure diminished value as you’ve not lost anything.”
This is a 2024 Hyundai Kona with ~11,000 miles, accident-free before the crash. My understanding is that Colorado law allows diminished value claims in third‑party accidents regardless of whether you actually sell the vehicle—it’s based on the market value difference before vs. after the accident.
Do they actually have legal grounds to deny me just because I’m keeping the car? Has anyone in Colorado fought and won this?
Lemonade - Help! Lemonade pet insurance
Can someone help me with Lemonade pet insurance?
My pet policy is 80% reimbursement, $250 deductible, $10,000 annual.
My dog went to the vet to get a mass checked out and got bloodwork done.
My plan doesn't cover exams or bloodwork.
Cytology was $185 and fine needle aspiration was $40.
In this case, the eligible cost that would go towards the deductible is the cytology exam and fine needle aspiration, which adds up to $225.
I was under the impression Lemonade paid out 80% AFTER the deductible is met.
But Lemonade just got back to me, and it shows that they covered 80% of the $225, which is $180.
Which means I still have to pay $70 until my deductible is met, instead of $25.
I thought the 80% was only for reimbursement after the deductible, not 80% coverage of the deductible.
Is this how all pet insurance work?
Nationwide - Pet insurance
So…I’ve had Nationwide for my Yorkie since I got him. For five years. They paid 90% which I think is exceptional. In fact, they’ve stopped that practice! He’s had pancreatitis twice, allergies and other expensive issues. Today I received a notice I was being cancelled. I feared it as the bills have been very high. My question is…Now What?? What recommendations do you have? Will a new company accept pre existing conditions? Who pays out the best and the fastest? I appreciate all thoughts! TIA
State Farm - State Farm's Drive Safe & Save doesn't work on the app
Ever since they merged it with the main app, it hasn't worked for me. The tab just says "Something went wrong and we can't display your Drive Safe & Save info right now." How do I get it to work? I just got an email saying I need to complete steps on that tab or else I will lose my discount.
