Costco Travel - Bought tickets to Canada before things got bad. My wife is a green card holder.
Location: Tennessee
My wife (German) and I (US) bought tickets from the US to Canada with Costco Travel before things got rough. My wife still has her maiden name on her passport and my last name on her green card. We have both abided by the law and have no criminal history.
It is a bit scary seeing Germans and other EU citizens detained in such traumatic ways, and I do not want my wife going through the same process. We cannot get our money back as the insurance does not offer refunds and Costco cannot offer any refunds on anything but Air Canada flights, which must have an end destination in Canada.
Right now, I have a few options, but I would love to see what type of risk we would be taking here if we decided to go anyway. We really can’t afford to throw away that money, and it might be the risk is rather low.
1. I am contacting the German embassy to make a statement on her passport in relation to her green card.
2. I am contacting my credit card company to see if get a refund. I know some offer travel benefits and protection.
3. Get the refund for Air Canada and use those credits for visiting my wife’s family later through Canada. The downside is I would have to buy more flight tickets in a recessionary environment.
We would love to change it to a domestic trip, but is there anything I can do to get my money back or make it safer to travel to Canada and back into the US

OneAmerica - LTC Insurance: Provide Financial and Wills?
I'm currently age 64 and in the throes of buying a LTC upfront 120k premium, "return of premium" for One America LTC insurance, and am working with a "financial advisor" who requests all my personal financial, living wills, etc.
I feel like I'm being sucked into a ruse of their playing a role of financial advisor for a fee, when all I want is purchase of the policy, which, I thought, only needs my medical records?
Help me out here...please. For upfront payment, am I being played that I have to provide personal financial info?
Pets Best - Denied claim due to "pre-existing condition" even though diagnosis changed.
About two months ago, I took in a stray cat. On his second vet visit, I brought him in because I suspected conjunctivitis-his eye looked irritated. The vet also mentioned the possibility of entropion but said I’d need an eye specialist to know for sure.
I followed up with a veterinary ophthalmologist, and they diagnosed him with eyelid agenesis, not entropion. It required a $4,000 surgery, which I went through with to give him a better quality of life.
Unfortunately, Pets Best denied my claim saying The eye issue was mentioned at an earlier appointment, so they’re calling it a pre-existing condition, even though the actual diagnosis changed significantly.
Has anyone had any success appealing a claim like this? Is there a way to argue that it’s a completely different condition? Or does the fact that “something was wrong with his eye” early on automatically void any coverage?
NYSI - What does car insurance pay for after an injury? NYS
I got hit by a car last summer in NYS and was told by my lawyer that they’d reimburse for taxis (up to $25/day) and personal help needed around the home and stuff.
I kept all my receipts including for things like a walker, shoe lift, etc (I only got crutches through the doctor).
Now the insurance company won’t reimburse any of it because they said:
1- they only cover taxis to doctors appointments
2- they don’t cover laundry because that is “personal”
3- they won’t cover any medical things because I didn’t have a prescription for them.
These probably are the rules and I’m mad that my lawyer didn’t actually tell me this before and told me the opposite because I probably could have gotten a prescription for those items. But I want to make sure.
Uber - Uber crash with injury: how to follow up?
Hello all,
I was involved in a crash Saturday night around 11PM. I was in the backseat of an uber with two friends when the uber driver allegedly ran a red light (according to the other people involved in the crash) and we got in a pretty violent accident. Luckily everyone in the uber walked away unharmed expect for me. I dislocated my finger (it was sideways after the crash) , and I walked into the hospital ER (we crashed a 5 minute walk from a big hospital in our city). I was treated and had it put back into place, and now have a follow up tomorrow. I am expecting this will continue to affect me for months. I am a student, starting grad school to become a physician assistant in August. This is going to affect me in school as I will struggle to type and struggle to be able to learn the hands on clinical skills for at least first first part of the semester. This has so far been extremely painful and I am only beginning to know the extent of medical treatment I will need and recovery timeline. This was also an extremely traumatizing and upsetting experience for me. After the accident, police were called and they spoke to me and the other riders at the hospital. I also believe the other people in the crash filed a report too. When I got home from the ER I spoke with uber and reported everything and their insurance is supposed to reach out to me. I already provided my ER discharge papers and pictures of the injury. What are the next steps here? Do I just wait to hear from uber? Also, what are my chances of receiving real compensation for my pain and suffering (like a couple thousand? Or should I expect less than that?)
Thank you
Pet Plan - Insurance help for a jack Russel with an elderly owner.
Hey everybody, I hope it's alright to post as I'm from the UK but we are in the south west and my elderly grandmother (I think she is around 87 but she hates telling us her age)
Has been being charged 85 pound a month according to her bank statements by pet plan. He is an elderly jack Russel now but she would have got him insured a lot younger but I'm not sure of his age exactly.
He has no pre-existing medical conditions and my grandmother is not very good at managing online but she wants her independence. Can anybody recommend a pet insurance company in the UK that is easy to use/acsess the details of?
TLDR: What is a good easy interface/acsess pet insurance company for a senior jack Russel?
USAA - When should I cancel my auto insurance?
I’ve been with USAA all my driving life and I’ve grown fed up with the high prices. So I’m switching to Erie and it goes active on the 28th. My USAA bill is due the 31st so when would be the best day to cancel? I’m not sure if I should call tomorrow or call them on the 27th. This is the first time I’ve ever switched insurances like this.
Geico - Pedestrian Ran Into My Car, Now Suing Me—Should I Get My Own Lawyer? (California)
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to get some advice on a situation that’s gotten pretty stressful.
I live in San Diego, California. About two months ago, I was driving around 2 a.m. when a pedestrian ran into my car. He was running across the street diagonally, apparently intoxicated, and hit my car right as the traffic light turned green.
I called emergency services, and he briefly lost consciousness but regained it and was taken to the hospital. I also have a witness who saw the whole thing and gave me their phone number and statement confirming that the pedestrian caused the accident.
At the time, the police report clearly said the pedestrian was at fault. My insurance company (Geico) told me they would handle everything and assured me they had collected the report and all the relevant information.
Fast forward to now: the pedestrian hired a lawyer and is suing me for bodily injuries. I just received a letter from Geico informing me about the lawsuit and requesting my statement again (even though I already provided it right after the accident). It seems like only now they are actually trying to gather the police report and contact witnesses.
I feel that Geico hasn’t been proactive at all and may not be acting fully in my best interests. In the letter, they also mentioned that I have the right to hire my own attorney, and if I do, they will communicate directly with that attorney instead of me.
My main questions:
Should I hire my own lawyer in this situation, or is it better to just let Geico handle it?
What are my chances of recovering my insurance deductible from the pedestrian, given that the police report and witness both confirm he was responsible?
Is it true that a police report can be easily dismissed in these cases?
Could hiring my own lawyer make this situation worse or “bigger” than it already is?
Any guidance, suggestions, or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your help.
Progressive - Car accident in FL
Got into a crash in the state of FL, parked in a parking spot and had to realign myself to be straight. The parking spots are aligned at a 45 degree angle. I reversed just enough that my rear wheels were visible, there was no vehicle next to me parked that could’ve potentially been blocking the vision of my vehicle, I was in the travel lane and as I was about to shift into drive, a vehicle driving westbound hit me in my rear-end and spun me around facing the opposite direction of travel, the whole back end of my vehicle is smashed in and not drive-able. It’s a 15mph travel zone and safe to say nobody drives 15mph through this spot. The damage of my vehicle definitely looks like more like 25-30mph. Cops talked to me and other driver but in the written statement wrote that I was reversing and then got hit which wasn’t true. Also said that it’s a no-fault state and so she could’ve written me a ticket. I’ve only had the car for barely a month and paid $3k for it, I have progressive insurance at the state-minimum required. After the crash my back and shoulder hurt.
I just want to know what can I do, any help is really appreciated because I need a new car as soon as possible.
