her insurance - Neighbor Scraped My Car and Denies It — Should I Deal With Their Insurance Adjuster or Go Through Mine?
My neighbor scraped my car in our shared apartment garage. I park right next to her every day, and the scratch on my vehicle lines up perfectly with damage on hers. To top it off, her paint color is visibly transferred onto my car and vice versa..
She’s claiming she didn’t do it, but I’ve already filed a claim with her insurance and an adjuster has reached out. The adjuster says they’re still trying to determine liability since my neighbor is denying everything.
Here’s where I’m stuck:
-Should I keep working with her insurance and try to prove it to the adjuster directly?
-Or should I go through my own insurance (which would mean paying a deductible upfront) and let them fight it out behind the scenes?
I’d prefer to avoid paying anything out of pocket, but I also don’t want to risk her insurer denying the whole thing and leaving me with the bill. Any insight from people who’ve been through this or know the industry would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
insurance carrier - How to rent-out a low-power electric pontoon boat as optional feature at my lakefront short term rental?
I am purchasing a lakefront second home that I will use primarily as a short term rental in PA (and will use about 10% of the time personally and the home will be in my name). The sellers are transferring to me a low-power electric pontoon boat to go along with the sale. They currently also rent the home and pontoon boat as an optional add-on. The boat rental has been very popular for them and has generated a significant amount of additional rental income that I'd like to reproduce. I spoke to them about how they insure the boat and themselves from liability while renters use the boat. They provided the name of an insurance carrier that they use for the home policy and indicated the same carrier provides a personal umbrella policy that they use to cover themselves for the boat rental.
As it turns out, I use the same insurance carrier so I reached out to my agent about getting similarly set-up. However, my agent, after consulting with underwriters, told me that not only do they want nothing to do with covering the boat when used by renters, but that they will not even insure the home as long as the boat is on the premises and now require proof of sale of the boat before they will insure the home even if we were to forbid renters' use of the boat.
I'm suspecting that the sellers are operating a very risky operation where they didn't disclose everything to their carrier and they would not be covered in the event of an incident.
So, I'm looking for advice for how I may be able to rent the home and the boat but still be legitimately covered by insurance.
It was suggested to me that perhaps I could start an LLC, sell the boat to the LLC, and then operate the boat rental arm through the LLC. However, a brief search through chatgpt seems to indicate that because I would be closely tying the optional boat rental into the rental of the home, that I would be potentially stepping into all sorts of issues and the LLC would not function to "limit liability" as intended in its name.
Has anyone found a solution to this and could share their experience/advice for how to make this a reality?
**TLDR: How do I get liability insurance to cover me renting a low-power electric pontoon boat as an optional add-on feature for the renters of my lakefront short term rental home?**
Healthy Paws Insurance - Healthy Paws Petition of Opposition
Over the last two years my Healthy Paws Insurance premiums have gone up a total of 81%, which has forced me to remove one of pets off of my policy to make it more affordable. One of my pets is a senior, like many of the posts I'm reading here, and he has a heart condition forcing us into daily medical management per his most recent Echocardiogram. Like most of us who are appalled at our premium increases as of late for our senior kiddos, I am proposing we all sign a Petition of Opposite which will require your Name, the state of residency and your current or cancelled policy number. I will be posting this on a few sites in hopes to round up all those who feel their pets and their pockets have been treated unfairly. If anyone would like to recommend the best way to go about collecting this information, please relay that in this post.
Thank you for your time,
a fellow pet parent!

Just a little PSA for people who weren't aware, when you move you may lose access to your old policy. I've had my policy for 2 years and in that time one of my cats turned 15. because I'm moving, they are charging me a deductible again and also won't cover my cat on the same plan anymore due to age. I'm going from 80% coverage on an unlimited amount to a cap of $2,500. in a HCOL area.
I'm obviously devastated but just wanted to share. might have chosen a different place to live if I'd known how screwed I would be.
Youi Insurance - Youi Insurance - Youi Preferred Repairer
Hi,
I had an accident in early May. A man smashed into the back of me while I was stopped with the indicator on to turn right. The car is driveable but its not driving normally.
We exchanged details but then he went quiet so I completed an insurance claim with Youi, my insurance company. I do not have Preferred Repairer on my policy so I went to see a Youi I referred smash repair.
Every step of the way I have followed their process and respond straight away with everything. I have taken the first available inspection and appointment with the repair shop. Then, on the day (July 1) I was to take my car in for repair, the repair shop tells me that I can't bring the car in because they still don't have the parts. I have contacted them again and they have said they still cannot tell me when I can bring my car in for repair. They're still waiting for parts.
I am just looking for some advice on a couple of things. Is this a long time to wait to have a car repaired? Is it likely that parts can take weeks and weeks to arrive? Its for a 8yr old Lexus. Is there anything else I can do? I have asked Youi if I can just take the car to Lexus to be repaired but they said no because their preferred repairer has already ordered the parts. I just want my car fixed.
community public liability insurance - Settled claim privately, Insurance won't let me claim
Brief background:
My boss lives in a private gated community. Last week a resident neighbour was driving out of the grounds, and as she was going through the gate one of our staff walked in front of the gate. I honestly don't know what happened but her car was damaged as the gate closed on her car.
The neighbour said our team member was at fault. The gate mechanism is absolutely faulty and to blame. My boss said just to settle it and we paid her 1k for the damage (she got a garage quote).
Now the community public liability insurance is saying that because we amicably settled with the Third Party, no claim by us will be entertained.
I know that by rights the neighbour should have claimed on the community insurance, but my boss just wanted it dealt with and didn't want animosity with a neighbour.
Do we have any recourse with the insurance company?
My next plan will be legal action against the property managers, but I'd prefer not to go down that road!
Edit: spelling
American Family Insurance - Non-Renewal Notice
So I have had AmFam insurance through Costco (live in Wisconsin) for a couple of yrs which comes with with a few perks that I thought would be helpful; non-deductible coverage for 1k to fix a window and $100 for locksmith if you get locked out. Well, in the span of 6 months I ended up using both of these but didn't know they get filled as claims against my insurance.
Fast forward 6 months, and I just a notice of Non-Renewal because I have had 3 claims in the last 3yrs (I've a claim bcuz of lost baggage 3yrs ago).
I'm calling around and getting a lot of refusals and getting a bit scared that I won't find coverage for the house. I tried appealing the decision but that didn't work either
Is there any way I can drop these AmFam claims? Or known companies that would still cover here?
AAA Insurance - My winning resolution 508 days later
For the past 507 days, I’ve been dealing nonstop with AAA Insurance over my BMW X5 M. In July 2023, my car was repossessed (shit happens), but I got it redeemed in September. When I picked it up from Sacramento, multiple dashboard warning lights were on, and it smelled like something was burning.
I later found out the repo guy towed my all-wheel drive vehicle by two tires from Chico to Sacramento — completely destroying the transfer case. These types of cars are supposed to be flat-bedded. I got nowhere with the repo company, so I filed a claim with my insurance (AAA) and brought the car to BMW Pajouh/Courtesy Automotive in Chico. It was in their shop from September 11 to November 3 for repairs.
Then in February 2024, it started feeling like my tire was going to fall off. I took it back to BMW Chico and got a rental car from them while they looked at it. A couple days later, Nick, the service advisor (not the same one who helped during the first repair), called and asked what the issues were. I had already told them that when I dropped it off, so I was annoyed. The next day, he called again and said, “Whoever did your transfer case didn’t do it correctly.”
I reminded him it was their shop that had done the work, and it had been an insurance repair — so the claim should be reopened. A few weeks went by, then I got a call from the AAA adjuster saying the new estimate was too high and they were going to total the car.
I told them I would be getting a second opinion from a specialty European shop. I wasn’t able to take the car there until the following week, but I made sure to notify both BMW Chico and AAA.
Then a few days later, I started getting calls and texts from both BMW and CoPart, saying they needed my authorization to tow the car to CoPart (a salvage yard). I told them I hadn’t signed anything and had NOT agreed to the total loss — I was still getting a second opinion.
Later that night, I went outside and noticed the BMW rental car was gone from my parking space. I ran upstairs thinking I had left the key fob in the car and it got stolen, but it was still in my purse. My daughter reminded me my spare house keys were in the rental, and they had an AirTag on them. I checked FindMy, and sure enough — it pinged at BMW Chico.
I called the dealership, and the front desk guy acted clueless. I told him my AirTag showed the car was there. He suddenly put me on hold. A few minutes later, he came back and transferred me to Michael Mumbus, the director. Mumbus told me they removed the car because they don’t allow loaners past 30 days — but it had only been 29 days, and no one had said a word to me about any rental limit.
The next day I went down there to pick up my belongings from the car. I came prepared and was recording everything. Mumbus got heated with me, accused me of “holding the key fob hostage,” and said I owed them $650. I had the key fob with me, ready to return it. Then he hit me with it — “Your BMW is gone. CoPart towed it yesterday.” Blaming AAA for giving the consent.
They took my car without any consent or authorization.
One of the staff members handed me a printout of the repair documentation. That’s when I found out they had installed a junked transfer case in my vehicle — not remanufactured, not OEM, just a used one from a salvage yard. And my insurance policy clearly included OEM endorsement, meaning it should have been brand new from BMW.
That’s when I realized not only had they done a terrible job, they had completely violated my policy. I immediately put a hold on the car at CoPart, telling them they had no legal right to it. That gave me time to start digging deeper.
Over the course of the year, I reached out to more than 100 lawyers. Every single one said no. They didn’t want to go up against AAA or BMW — said it wasn’t worth the fight.
So I kept pushing. I requested every document from AAA and went through everything line by line. That’s when I noticed a payment made to CoPart for $7,000 in “storage fees” — which made no sense. I filed formal complaints with:
• California Department of Insurance
• Bureau of Automotive Repair
And then — this morning — I got the call.
AAA told me they had good news:
• I can take my car to any shop that does mechanical work and paint (it was severely oxidized from sitting outside this whole time)— and they’re covering all of it.
• They’re paying me $35/day for 507 days of loss of use.
• They’re removing the salvage title and returning the clean title back into my name.
• And… the car is paid off.
DMV will take 3–6 months to process the title, but I can wait.
I honestly don’t know how this kind of shit always ends up happening to me, but one thing I know for sure — I never stop fighting. It’s exhausting. It’s stressful. It feels impossible. But I do not give up.

insurance - Back and forth between adjuster and contractor; no work done to my damaged home
Last year, my home was hit by a vehicle and became unlivable. I was advised to create a claim with my insurance company. I had a disaster restoration company come out, provide a quote, paperwork signed, my insurance paid out a portion of the estimated total, I paid the deposit to the restoration company out of that. That was six months ago and no work has started, and here is (allegedly) why:
1. My siding has asbestos. Contractor says they cannot fix the damage without disrupting the asbestos on the two undamaged sides, therefore insurance needs to pay for four replacement sides, not two. According to contractor, this is an EPA regulation. Insurance says because it’s not township code, it doesn’t matter and they will only cover two sides.
2. My hardwood flooring is original to 1950 and has no subfloor. The subcontractors won’t fix without installing subfloor, as the type of hardwood used in 1950 does not exist and today’s would not be strong enough. Insurance will only cover fixing the damaged area, which means I will have a visible difference and seam in the hardwood. Again, because it is not code, Insurance is pushing back.
I have not received an actual denial letter, I’m just being told by the adjuster that nothing is happening. I requested to escalate to a supervisor two weeks ago, still no updates.
I’m overwhelmed and I’ve been out of my home for more than six months.
Questions:
1. Do I need an attorney, and if so, what kind? Google hasn’t been helpful.
2. Am I within my rights to get a new quote for the siding and hardwood flooring separate from the other repairs?
3. Why is this going through my insurance and not the insurance of driver who hit the house?
I only filed with my insurance because I was panicked and a neighbor told me to, and I’d rather argue with the bad guy’s adjuster instead of mine. I feel like I have to play nice with everyone, but the anger and resentment and frustration is building.
