Home Insurance Company - Overcharged by Home Insurance Company - No Changes to Policy
My mom’s home insurance policy looked high so I called the insurance company and asked them to walk me through it. Without changing any of the coverage/details, they determined it was thousands higher than it should be and couldn’t explain why.
When I asked about a refund they said they could refund a few hundred dollars (she overpaid by thousands for this year). The policy renews in October so I’m assuming this is a prorated amount, is this expected?
Again, the coverage details did not change and they can’t explain why it’s that high. At the very least, shouldn’t she be refunded by how much she overpaid for this year? I need to dig through my parents’ paperwork but it looks like this has been happening for years.
Fetch Insurance - Fetch pet insurance
Hey guys, im soon to be getting a golden retriever puppy and i need some help with pet insurance. Ive narrowed it down to fetch insurance because theyre the most affordable without the worst reviews.
I have seen some chatter about them denying claims but since im registering my pup at less than 8 weeks i figure that they cant deny due too some bs like "previous conditions". Am i naive for thinking that?
I was quoted $120 a month for an annual payout of $15000, annual deductable of $300, and reimbursement rate of 90%. Let me know if you think that i should adjust these values as i picked the highest cost options across the board. Still $40 dollars cheaper than trupanion lol.
I am also considering the wellness plans but im not too sure of the value. Could you guys weigh in on if i'll actually need all of these things done every year and if i'll save money with it?
The annual "savings" are $735 for all that stuff listed but the annual cost of the plan is $563.52, so i'll really only be saving like $170 bucks for the most expensive plan if i understand correctly. There seems to be alot of bloat but ive never had a dog before so who knows.
I live in Canada if that matters, thanks guys.
auto insurance company - At Fault vs No Fault
I had to file a claim with my automobile insurance company due to 4k worth of damage to my vehicle when I hit a MASSIVE pothole. The pothole looked more like a huge chunk of cement that got wedged out of the lane, possibly by a snowplow. It was the tail end of a decent snowstorm and this hole was unavoidable. Why? I was surrounded by vehicles and to swerve either way or stop short would have resulted in something far worse. I attempted to straddle the hole but it was too wide. After having my interview with my claims examiner she told me she felt strongly that she could get her boss to sign off on my claim as a no fault. she called bck and told me it wa an at fault and wouldn't budge. She read me the typical language that I should be aware of my surroundings and more cognizant as to the road conditions before me. The conversation went nowhere. They paid the claim at least.
My question: how could they call it at fault given the circumstances? They made this decision without ever even seeing a picture of the pothole, which proves its width? I am now trying to get the item removed via lexis/nexis. How much might this save me if it were remove?
Direct Insurance - Advice in auto insurance for a non-driver
Here is my scenario:
My mother owns a car that she would like to have my daughter drive for school high school. The car had been parked and was on a non-op status, and the car insurance was canceled. The car has been re-registered and is ready to go once we have the insurance question settled. My mother does not drive anymore and did not renew her drivers license the last time it came up for renewal. We called the insurance company to reactivate her policy, Direct Insurance, and were told that she cannot get a policy because she does not have a valid drivers license.
After doing some research, I think these are my options, and I want to get some feedback:
1. Find a company that will write a policy where the owner of the vehicle is not licensed. Does anyone know of a company that does this?
2. My mother has a living trust that many of her assets are in, but not her car. Would it make sense to transfer the car into the trust, or am I still faced with exact the same problem?
The final solution is for me to simply buy my mother‘s car. We are both a little hesitant to do this because my brother also drives it on occasion and she wants to make sure that it is still available for him. If I purchased it, I would still make sure it is available to him, but now I would need to make sure that my brother was on the insurance as an occasional driver. I suspect this will end up being the simplest course of action, but I wanted to make sure that there wasn’t something else I am overlooking.
TIA!
Edit: the car would be insured in California.
Gap insurance - Insurance, Lienholder, Gap insurance dilemma 😓
Hello, I was involved in an accident and I’m currently waiting to be reimbursed by the insurance of the person who hit my car (the 3p insurance). However their policy limit doesn’t cover how much my car is worth. I am trying to retain the car as salvaged because it is my only source of transportation. The 3p insurance is sending the lienholder $15,000 (customer’s policy limit) but the remaining balance is mine to cover ($6,380). However my lienholder says they won’t send the letter of guarantee to the insurance until the remaining balance is covered ($6,380) meaning the 3p insurance cannot send the $15,000. I have gap insurance and I expected them to cover the remaining balance but they said they won’t pay until the $15,000 is sent from the 3p insurance and they see the letter of guarantee. Does anyone know if there is a workaround where I keep the vehicle having to pay ($6,380) out of pocket? Please let me know. Thanks!
at fault drivers insurance - PSA - be nice & get your money
TL;DR: Be nice and…get yo money??
I made a post a few days ago about how I was seeking compensation for the stress caused my the mishandling and lying committed by the at fault drivers insurance. This was my first car accident, so I’ve never dealt with the claims side of insurance. I explained how it’s my understanding they were in violation of the Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Act and how when I finally got ahold of the other insurances adjuster, he made multiple false statements (which his supervisor confirmed were untrue statements). For many reasons told and untold, this was stressful.
I made a post explaining how I was seeking compensation for the stress caused by the mishandling of this claim and asked what the chances were that I’d get compensation. I came here seeking genuine answers and instead I received belittling comments, essentially saying “you will receive nothing you dumb fuck.”
Well…I just received an email today from the insurance agreeing to pay exactly the amount I asked for.
While I get things take time, not hearing a single word from the other insurance for almost two months when their own policy says they reply within one business day, and making multiple unnecessary false statements is not right. Making belittling comments to someone is also not right.
My point is, be nicer. Don’t join a subreddit where people are seeking genuine answers if you can’t give them, or simply don’t comment.
AND, if an insurance company got you feeling stressed, take a chance. It might literally pay off.
Insurance - Insurance says car total loss
My Honda CRV 2018 , 48k mileage was rear ended. Bumper damage and tail gate damage. Adjuster estimates says 3.5 K , the auto body shop says repair cost of 14.5 K and insurance company wants to do total loss and settlement of 21k.
The shop **initially quoted $3,327.12**, but **after a deeper inspection**, the full cost is now estimated at **$14,412.00**.
* This includes **parts ($7,059)**, **labor (body, paint, mechanical)**, **paint supplies**, **miscellaneous charges**, and **sales + county taxes**.
# 🧾 What Was Added That Drove Up Cost?
Here are some **major cost drivers** from the supplement:
1. **Rear Floor Pan Replacement**:
* Part: $1,408.27
* Labor: 29 hours (!!!)
* Paint: 2.5 hours 🔥 This is a **huge contributor**. Frame/floor pan replacement is structural and complex.
2. **Lift Gate Replacement**:
* Part: $1,701.68
* Paint + labor included 🚨 Signals **major rear-end impact**
3. **Rear Body Panel**:
* Part: $877.58
* Requires alignment and seam sealing
4. **Multiple panel repairs, refinishing, seam sealing, underbody work**
5. **Parts & Hardware**:
* Several **aftermarket parts** were used to reduce cost (bumper cover, impact bar, moldings)
* OEM parts were selectively used (e.g., optional OEM upper molding for $428.48)
I am surprised with the high estimate.
should I accept total loss and take 21K? anyway to negotiate higher.
I was really not set for this time for another car purchase. My daughter is ready for college this fall was busy to manage her finance for college.
should I try second opinion from another mechanic.
Insurance company - Claim rep accidentally told me their appraisers estimate
I've posted about my claim before. Insurance company low balled me on the settlement for my stolen car. Offered me 23k total I didn't agree, they didn't want to negotiate and told me to invoke appraisal clause. They rep calls we over a week later and told me good news their appraiser came up with 26k and something. Told me I don't have to get an appraiser anymore. Sounded good to me. Next day I get a call, they made a mistake and weren't supposed to tell me that amount since that's the amount their appraiser came up with for when I actually invoke the appraisal clause.
I'm confused so I have two questions:
Can they legally backtrack like that after they already told me I didn't have to get an appraiser and the amount they were at?
And also, technically if I get an appraiser he or she should be able to get me more than their estimate right?
Travelers Home Insurance - Roof claim timeline
Travelers Home Insurance. Claim filed 6/3. 1st agent came 6/11 and my roofing contractor was present. He quit the company the following week. New guy assigned. Came 6/27 then went on vacation.
A few weeks later he calls and mentioned he wants an engineer to look at the roof because he agrees there is hail damage but doesn’t agree it’s a full roof rebuild. Fine.
7/16 engineer comes out. Contractor present. It rains before he took photos, so he has to come back on 7/21. Fine.
It’s August 5 and the travelers insurance guy says he still doesn’t have the engineer report.
Is this timeline normal for a claim like this? Does this breech the law that states 30 days for insurance claims to be investigated?
my insurance - Hit by someone and they’re falsely accusing me of causing the wreck
So someone hit me yesterday on the highway, totalled my car and injured me pretty badly. Since I was hurt the officers rushed me into an ambulance before I could exchange information. one of the officers told me that he could provide me with the other drivers information after I got care and he gave me his card to call him, it has the case no. as well.
Now today I call, they’re telling me that they cannot give that information out until the crash report is done and that they’re waiting on a signature. So I’m stumped, but like ok, I’ll just keep checking and then I’ll file.
AND THEN as soon as I get off the phone I got a call from *my* insurance. The driver that hit me, somehow has my insurance and information and he filed a claim against my insurance. Basically saying my story exactly, trying to claim I hit him. What can I do from this point? I could try to hire an attorney, but without having his information I’m stressing that I’m going to get screwed. 😭
