PSEG - Electrican won't answer my text or Calls
Hi guys, new home owner here, and I'm currently in a dilemma.
So I bought my house a couple months ago and I had a Tesla Charger installed by an electrican that my dad found out about from a friend. After the work was done, I applied for a rebate from PSEG for the EV Charger that they're offering and I got an email from them saying I need to provide a proof of payment to the electrican.
So here's the thing, all I have is an invoice, I payed with cash once the work was completed. I sent PSEG the invoice and told them I payed with cash, they replied saying that is fine, I would just need a paid invoice saying I paid with cash from the electrican.
I sent the electrican multiple texts, on different days, even called him multiple times but no answer. I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I know he's certified, I have his electrical license which also has his address.....Intrusive thoughts are telling me to show up to his house
Any ideas?
Wells Fargo - Do I pay off my car loan or student loans first?
Car loan— 12,000 to pay off, interest rate is 7.8%
Federal student loans— 6,000 to pay off, interest rates average about 4%
I called Wells Fargo, as this is what my auto loan is through and they told me their is no benefit to paying off my car early (as in I won’t save any money) very confused as I know this is a “fixed loan”. Obviously it is better to pay off the higher interest rate, but if it’s a fixed loan does that matter??
Any advice on which to pay off first??
Ed Jones - Ed Jones CFP's response to my question
Not sure if this is allowed, but here goes:
My employer retirement $ is with Empower, and 100% of it in a **T Rowe Price 2025** fund. I'll only be working for them for 5 years tops, and this $ will not be a big factor in retirement. This TRP 2025 has done great, barely lost anything at all. *Most* of our $ is with Ed Jones, and one of the funds they have me in is **TRP Large Cap Growth** fund. This fund is not doing as well as the 2025. It may be important to know that I am not contributing anything new to Ed Jones, this $ is growing / declining as funds do. They have me in a ratio of growth / stability appropriate for my age (62, want to retire at 65).
I asked the Ed Jones, guy, "The TRP 2025 is doing great, the Large Cap Growth is not doing as well, is there a compelling reason to NOT to move from the Large Cap and into the 2025?"
Ed Jones guy answers with "The market goes up and down, don't watch the news so much, we're re-investing dividends and buying low. Dips happen and then we recover..." or words to that effect.
***It's like he didn't answer my question, I know the market goes up / down, I'm not saying "sell everything" in a panic. SO, is he just dodging my question for some reason? Are there valid reasons to NOT switch from one TRP fund to another?***
Trupanion - Trupanion 30-day no policy modifications rule -- Has anyone gotten them to fold on this?
I might get flooded with 100 "No, why didn't you read the policy language" comments, but it's worth a shot!
My partner and I have been with Trupanion for four years, and we have a love-hate relationship with it. (But it feels like that's common for most pet insurance providers -as with insurance in general). We have been fortunate to gain more financial stability in the past year and decided we wanted to add "Recovery Care" to our plan. This would raise our monthly premium from $145 to $190, but we decided it was worth it. However, when we reached out to Trupanion via online chat to add this coverage, they let us know that they have a policy that you cannot modify your policy \~at all\~ after 30 days of joining said policy.
This is wild to me because financial circumstances change, and...why would they not want to get more money? Now I'm seriously considering changing providers.
My question, before "jumping ship" from Trupanion is: has anyone gotten them to waiver on this policy? I'm also going to call their customer service line to see if I'd get more traction there compared to the online chat, but I thought I'd ask here too.
Embrace Pet Insurance - Embrace Pet Insurance Premium Increased by 84%
Hi,
Curious if anyone else has had this issue. From what I’ve read online, it seems to be a general theme with pet insurance and I don’t think I have any rights or avenues to pursue to do anything about it.
I have had Embrace pet insurance to cover my 3 pets since December of 2020. My insurance premiums renewals for my pets, that I still have the records for have been:
Dec. 2022: $112.90
Dec. 2023: $133.49
Dec. 2024: $245.76
My pets are obviously getting older from when I initially took the policy. Current ages:
Cat (6)
Cat (10)
Dog (8)
Their rationale for increasing my premium is cost of vet bills increasing, my “tenure” (I’ve had embrace 5 years therefore my pets have likely developed ‘pre existing conditions’ that would not be covered if I was a new policy holder which means more money they have to pay to now cover these conditions), and the pets age.
I understand things increase year over year, I’m hung up on the fact that my rate has almost doubled in a single year. I was going to file a complaint with the state insurance commissioner, but it doesn’t seem that they are technically violating any laws.
I feel like I can’t switch companies because my pets have “pre existing conditions” that won’t be covered at a new place but at $300/ month I might as well save my money and pay the vet bills out of pocket.
I found online that Embrace was sold to JAB Holding company for $1.5 billion dollars in 2023. So I don’t think my premiums are going up so Embrace can keep the lights on.
If you have any advice, I am all ears. If you don’t have advice, take this as a recommendation to avoid Embrace pet insurance at absolutely all costs.
Delta Dental - Rude receptionist at the dentist gave me misinformation
I have Delta Dental PPO. I get 2 free cleanings per year. One xray per year.
Earlier this year, I got a cleaning and X-rays done at one dental office, but they dropped me as a patient because they stopped accepting Delta Dental. For my second cleaning, I scheduled with a different dental office. The receptionist there has been difficult to deal with.
I explained that I already had my X-rays done at a different office and only needed a cleaning. She pushed back and said, “How can you get a cleaning without X-rays?” She asked if i can email the xray images, so I contacted my old office and had them send the X-rays to me and then i sent the all the xray images to the new office. After i emailed the xray images, the receptionist said I would probably need to get new X-rays anyway, but that I could wait and see what the dentist says. I explained that I’m only allowed one set of X-rays per year under my plan and that I’m not due for another one until next February. She said, "I KNOW! But how can we provide proper care without knowing what is going on." I reiterated that I only need a cleaning and can wait until next year for another x ray and she seemed to understand but not without an attitude.
When I showed up for my appointment, she incorrectly said she checked my insurance and that I was eligible for another “free” X-ray anyway so it doesnt matter. I reminded her that I had already emailed them and dont need them again. She asked what email address?? She couldn’t find them in my chart until I opened up my phone to show my sent messages, then suddenly she “found” them and said never mind.
Despite that, they still insisted on doing a single bitewing X-ray and said I would need to return on a separate day for the cleaning. I’m frustrated because I feel like I’m being forced into extra appointments and services I may not need or be covered for.
Will I be charged out of pocket for this second X-ray, even though I already had one set done earlier this year? I thought Delta only covered one set annually. Has anyone else dealt with something similar?
I also want to add that the other receptionists, dental assistants, and dentists have all been very nice and easy to work with. It's just this one receptionist that is very difficult to deal with.
Embrace - Embrace almost doubling premium
My monthly premium with Embrace was $54 a month and I just got a notice it will be $93 a month. This is an obscene increase. My pet is an almost 8 year old male cat I have had since he was 2. He has been in great health with no issues. I’ve had embrace since I got him.
Should I get new pet insurance? I’ve seen really mixed reviews about embrace being a scam. There is absolutely no justification for this premium increase in my opinion, but I’d like it get other thoughts.
Progressive - Why does Progressive want me to pay more for no coverage.
Blue Cross Blue Shield - Insurance Canceled While on FMLA [TX]
TL;DR: Employer canceled insurance benefits without notice while on FMLA due to nonpayment, despite efforts to pay.
Hi, there. I’m currently on a medical leave of absence from work, and have been experiencing some difficulties with my FMLA/insurance benefits. I’m new to this, so any input would be appreciated!
My leave began the last week of December and I’m set to return on 3/24, the last day of my FMLA protection. Since my leave started, my main priority was getting my insurance premiums taken care of so as not to lose my benefits, especially since I’ve racked up substantial medical bills over the course of my leave.
I reached out to my benefits department, and was instructed to reach out to a third party (WEX) to make payment, which I did. WEX informed me that there was no balance due reflected on their end, and to reach back out to benefits. This back and forth has gone on for months now. At one point, they told me to reach out to BCBS to make payment, and BCBS acted like they had no idea why I was directed to them in the first place.
I’m over 10 weeks into my leave, and have not received a single correspondence about my health insurance until today. Not a phone call, email, or letter. I did, however, receive a bill from WEX for my vision and dental coverage, but nothing whatsoever in regard to my medical coverage. Once I received the dental/vision bill, I called same day to make payment and was told, again, that there was nothing in the system to apply payment towards.
Reached out to my benefits department again, and they said they could see the unpaid premium for my dental/vision. Called WEX again, and after escalating and speaking with a supervisor, was told that the reason why I was unable to pay my dental/vision is because the plans had been cancelled due to nonpayment. When I reiterated several times that I’ve been trying to pay for quite some time by that point, I was told that if I mailed the payment ASAP, there is a “strong possibility” they might reinstate the plans. I mailed the check the following morning, and am hoping it works out in my favor.
What I’m most concerned about, though, is my health insurance. I spoke to someone in our benefits department in February, and was told that because I’d exhausted my PTO the first half of January, my insurance premium would have been deducted from one of those paychecks. According to the representative with whom I spoke, “January was covered.”
I told him I’d received bills for my dental/vision coverage, but still hadn’t received anything for my health insurance. He told me to just wait a little bit longer for it to show up in the mail. Over 10 weeks later of non stop calling and trying to stay on top of things, and I still haven’t gotten anything. I expressed that due to the nature of my leave, I really needed to keep my insurance coverage, and was terrified the third party was going to cancel my policy for nonpayment. He reassured me that the only one able to cancel my insurance would be my employer, and they would “of course” provide me with ample notice prior to that. When I told him it didn’t make sense that I’d receive bills for my dental/vision but not my health insurance, he told me to not worry because my health insurance will remain as is regardless. That my account would just go in a rears and my employer would deduct the unpaid premiums accrued during my leave from my future paychecks once I’m back to work.
A supervisor from benefits called me today (10 weeks after my initial call), letting me know that the reason why WEX didn’t have my balance due in their system was because my health insurance was cancelled on 1/28. When I told her that I’ve been calling for help for months now, and continue to get the runaround, she just kept saying it was my responsibility to cover my premiums while on FMLA. When I told her that benefits told me no one would cancel my health insurance without notification, she disregarded it. Same when I mentioned the rep telling me that my account would just go in a rears and they’d deduct the premiums from future paychecks. She told me that I owed for January, February, and March, and that there is a 10-day grace period where I can get caught back up to “hopefully” have my coverage reinstated, but couldn’t be for certain. I checked my last paycheck from January, and the deductions are reflected on it. I’m just very confused because she was adamant I owed for January still too.
I just don’t see how they can cancel my insurance:
1. Without notice, and
2. After I’ve made an effort to get it paid since the very beginning of my leave.
Someone had mentioned this being problematic because of potential FMLA violations, but I’ve never gone through this before and I’m honestly unsure of the process, and obviously don’t feel comfortable reaching out to my employer given the misinformation I’ve received thus far.
Our market is experiencing mass layoffs right now, and I was hesitant to go on leave in the first place because of it. I don’t know if it’s worth mentioning or not, but the day before my leave was set to begin, thought to call Alight just to make sure I was not going to be reprimanded for not coming in. The representative informed me that my LOA request had been cancelled. This gave me pause, as the only ones who knew about the LOA request was my immediate supervisor and Alight. I’d have been no call, no show and subsequently terminated had I not thought to call beforehand.
I’ve just been worried so much about all of this, and honestly regret taking the medical leave even though it was necessary. I’ve spent more time going back and forth with my employer than I have with my physicians and it’s been hell.
Does anyone have any input regarding this situation? Is this just an HR issue and nothing more or should I consider seeking legal counsel?
Thanks so much ❤️
Mohela - Advice regarding identity theft leading to fraudulent loan being opened
Hey, Reddit - hoping someone can help me with a direction to take regarding my issue.
Location: Houston, Texas
Back in early 2023, I found out via an alert from my bank that my credit score worsened because a lender has been trying to reach me. I panicked because 1. I have thankfully never needed any loans and 2. I normally have a great credit score. I did some investigating and found out that apparently, an education loan had been opened in my name only about six months prior in a completely different state (Albuquerque, New Mexico). I live in Houston, Texas and the loan was opened for a community college in Albuquerque. For backstory, I graduated from college over 10 years ago and I’m thankful to say that I never needed any loans to get through any of my schooling. I did everything I could to fight this loan over the last two years since discovering it. I reached out to the lender (Mohela) and explained my situation in detail, filled out a large packet that they requested to dispute the loan and prove my identity with several various supplemental documents in my possession to help support my case. This was mailed to them ASAP and is STILL under review 2 years later. I filed a police report with my local police station and they even spoke to the Albuquerque police department to warn them of the identity theft and to give them the local Albuquerque home address that was wrongly associated with my name. I corrected all incorrect contact information associated with the loan and with all three credit reporting bureaus, and immediately froze my credit across all three. I flagged any mention of the loan across all three credit bureaus as fraud and to dispute it. I have provided all three credit bureaus with supporting documentation to prove my identity along with the police report. I even called the community college in Albuquerque and spoke to several people there, asked them to close the promissory note for the loan since it was due to identity theft. I sent them my police report as well. I filed a report on [identitytheft.gov](http://identitytheft.gov/). I have called the lender every few months, have to explain my situation all over again to whatever agent I get connected with, why I won’t be making payments on this loan, and continue to ask for a forbearance on my account while my case continues to be reviewed and hopefully dismissed in the near future.
Despite all of this, even two years later, the loan still appears on my credit reports because it is still being reviewed and has not yet been dismissed. I am at my wits end and am now thinking I need to hire a lawyer to help me fight this, but I have no idea what type of lawyer and how to even find someone who can help me. I also have no idea how much it would cost.
If anyone can offer any advice on the best direction I can take, I would greatly appreciate it.
