insurance company - Big Payouts
After all these years, it still grinds my gears. A truck carrying drilling waste accidentally went into the wrong farmer's field, and sprayed a tiny bit of it on the alfalfa field, before the driver realized his mistake. I was called in to analyze the soil test data and write a report and recommendations. The tests showed salinity deep in the soil profile, that couldn't have possibly come from the drilling waste, and I said so in my report. I was called to a meeting with the insurance adjuster and had to endure a thorough dressing down for it (by a British accent no less) and made to look the fool in front of my peers. The insurance company was far more inclined to spend dozens of millions to excavate all the soil and have it replaced instead. That was my first inkling that insurance companies don't really want to avoid big payouts; they use them to justify raising their premiums.
SPOT Pet Insurance - SPOT pet insurance is a scam
After paying $60 bucks a months for almost a year, SPOT has denied every single attempt at being reimbursed and rejected every appeal. The rejection to the appeal contained information that was absolutely not true like that the symptoms started in the 14 day waiting period, even though it was for an emergency surgery many months after we started the policy. When I asked what next steps were, since there was clearly incorrect information in the rejection, I was told there was nothing they could do.
It's thousands of dollars, it's exactly what we pay insurance premiums for. It's the holidays and we are completely broke. We were counting on having this money reimbursed so that we could make rent this month. It's just pure cruelty and I don't understand how people like this sleep at night. AVOID THIS COMPANY LIKE THE PLAGUE.
State Farm - Storm damage company, shady or legitimate?
House that was built in 1989 has water stains on all the 2nd story ceilings which are getting worse every time it rains. The roof is visibly messed up, losing shingles. Siding and gutters have never been replaced. Visible hail damage, plus the vents on top of the roof have dents all in them.
I live with my senior mother whose coworker has a son who works for a roofing/restoration company. The guy came out, inspected our house and took over a hundred pictures. Said we need a new roof, siding and gutters. We put in a claim with State Farm homeowners insurance, he said to put we have damage from June of 2024. Even though we've had more storms and tornados since that date.
State farm then sent an inspector woman who barely looked at anything, the company this door to door storm chaser guy works for was there. They didn't seem to show her much of anything. The inspector was here less than a half hour and I didn't answer the doorbell. The company who would be paid for replacing things nailed a tarp on to a small part of our roof without asking or informing us.
The inspector determined only 2 shingles need repairing! Nothing else. She also emailed my mother the decision, saying it was nice to meet her. My mother did not meet this woman and no one who lives here did.
Now the guy who inspected our house initially is saying we weren't denied and we have a roof that is no longer made. It's a 3 panel shingle roof and he claims those shingles are no longer produced. He's telling my mother to take State Farm's offer of fixing the 2 shingles. That they'll send them off for testing and once they find out these shingles are no longer made, insurance will cover a new roof. A simple Google search shows I can go buy 3 panel shingles at every home improvement store nearby.
Is this guy scamming my senior mother? Will State Farm actually replace the entire roof after testing shingles? I'm a single solo mom to a disabled child who has to live with my mother and I feel we're getting taken advantage of. She thinks we're not since she works with this guy's mom and she's easily taken advantage of.
Help please, any input would be highly appreciated!
TD - Towing request considered as accident
I have TD auto insurance. January, I got into a ditch and called towing service. However, at that time, I had no idea that I could simply submit a towing reimbursement. So I called and opened a claim. Adjuster provided me an email address for towing reimbursement. No car fix was required. Now upon renewal, TD claims that getting into the ditch is an accident claim on file even though they paid 0 dollars on it. I called multiple times and they got me to the underwriting department for a final review. How would this go? Anyone has similar experience? What can I do if they still refuse to see me as accident free?
National Debt Relief - Working with National Debt Relief, Now Being Sued.
I know I'm calling them first thing in the morning to talk with an attorney, but is there any advice for a situation like this? I owe them just under 14k, they personally gave me a settlement and I emailed it to them (5k settlement) but National Debt Relief never finalized on anything, and now they are suing me.
Fetch Insurance - Fetch pet insurance
Hey guys, im soon to be getting a golden retriever puppy and i need some help with pet insurance. Ive narrowed it down to fetch insurance because theyre the most affordable without the worst reviews.
I have seen some chatter about them denying claims but since im registering my pup at less than 8 weeks i figure that they cant deny due too some bs like "previous conditions". Am i naive for thinking that?
I was quoted $120 a month for an annual payout of $15000, annual deductable of $300, and reimbursement rate of 90%. Let me know if you think that i should adjust these values as i picked the highest cost options across the board. Still $40 dollars cheaper than trupanion lol.
I am also considering the wellness plans but im not too sure of the value. Could you guys weigh in on if i'll actually need all of these things done every year and if i'll save money with it?
The annual "savings" are $735 for all that stuff listed but the annual cost of the plan is $563.52, so i'll really only be saving like $170 bucks for the most expensive plan if i understand correctly. There seems to be alot of bloat but ive never had a dog before so who knows.
I live in Canada if that matters, thanks guys.
Mercury Insurance - Looking for my daughter
My daughter is 28 yo. She just bought a 2023 Subaru cross Trek. She was on our auto insurance since she started driving, although she moved about 5 years ago. When she bought the car the insurance company called and told her she had to get her own policy. We have mercury insurance. They gave her a quote for about $4000 per year. She has had a couple accidents. Wondering if anyone can give a few companies that are cheaper. She has been teaching for 5 years, so, educator discount? She lives in 90031 zip. Thank you.
Progressive - Progressive is canceling my policy because I filed a claim within the 1st 60 days of the 180 day policy. Is this normal?
If this is normal I'm not going to fight it, just stupid because I had NEVER been in an accident before and mine would've been minor had it not damaged my front radar sensor.
Cigna - Cigna dental denied covered claim
Cigna denied my claim for a “periodic oral evaluation-established patient”, but approved adult cleaning (two per calendar year). This was the second examination and cleaning I got in the year.
Reason for denial is “N4 - This claim is denied due to lack of information. If you would like to have the claim reconsidered, please submit the information requested”
I contacted Cigna customer service twice and both agents said they didn’t know what the information requested was and provided no course of action.
Who can I reach out to to understand what additional information is requested since Cigna doesn’t know?
Freedom Life Insurance - Freedom Life Insurance is costing me way too much, what to switch to?
I purchased private health insurance through an agent with Freedom Life Insurance. I'm starting my own business so have to handle my own insurance. I got a Freedom plan that is supposed to give me 4 free doctors visits before deductibles/copays kick in, and somehow I'm paying more than my insurance every time. They only pay $100 per visit. I am livid that I'm spending almost $400/month for a policy that doesn't seem to pay anything!! What is the deal with this?? They only pay $100, the rest is on me. This is directly different than what I was told it would be, and there's no way for me to know what I'm going to be paying unless I get a full bill breakdown from each doctor beforehand which I have never in my life had to do. The plan is a United plan, yet my agent said these major doctors don't have a good contracted rate with United. HOW? United is universally accepted. Should I have my agent find me a different plan? Go back to Marketplace where they switch your plan every year? Where the heck does a person go to get health insurance that isn't rocket science, actually covers what it says it will cover, and doesn't change all the time? Does the plan I'm on even sound normal?
