United Healthcare - Wrong Health Insurance Charged
Location: Wa State, USA
Last month I went to the ER, while they there asked about billing insurance and I told them to use my state provided insurance which they had on file. Apparently they charged insurance from a provider from my old job which i haven’t worked at since December of last year. I never signed up for health insurance from my old employer. I did have dental through them at one point but that was it. Today i get a bill from United Healthcare that states i owe them $4300 from my hospital visit when I shouldn’t even have their insurance in the first place. I’m not sure where to start to get this resolved. My old employer? Hospital? Lawyer? I’m not even sure if this is the right sub for this but I’m just angry and confused so any help would be appreciated.
Progressive - Prior Resident added to my policy, how to remove
For context, the state is Maryland
I live in a rental house and there is a prior resident named Stacy D. (Hiding her last name for privacy). I don’t know this person, other than occasionally getting some of her mail in our mailbox, which leads me to assume she is a prior resident at this unit.
This morning, i had new policy documents added to my Progressive policy. They added Stacy D. to my policy as an insured driver, and my rate increased from $140 a month to $580 a month. I also lost some of my discounts, like safe driving discount, because Stacy D. has apparently been in two at fault accidents in the past year.
Now I called progressive to remove this person from my policy, and their underwriting says that she can’t be removed unless i have proof of address showing that she doesn’t live here.
A few questions:
1. How do i prove that someone (a stranger) doesn’t live here? I don’t have any contact info for her or any way to get her current address. I don’t know this person or have any knowledge about her other than occasionally getting junk mail that is addressed for her.
2. Is there a possibility of me getting any discounts (such as safe driving discount) added back to my account, if I am able to remove this person?
3. Because i live in a rental unit, are there any other steps I can take to prevent prior residents from being added to my policy in the future?
Intact - $500 a month for commercial auto insurance
I’m 23 buying my first car. It’s a generic 2007 Pontiac wave and I want to do uber eats with it. I got a quote from Intact and he said it would be $800 down and $500 and change a month. This feels insanely high, even for commercial insurance. Any advice? Edit: I am a new driver so i understand it’s going to be a bit higher.
Empower - New Employer 401k Options
I just started a new job and received the Empower 401k fund options below. All of these funds appear to have high expense ratios (most around 1%) and overall don’t seem to be that great.
I’m considering rolling over my old 401k to this new plan or an IRA. My old plan is valued at approximately $500k invested in passive total market index funds. I’m 40 married no kids.
While I won’t be able to do the backdoor Roth IRA if I rollover my old plan to an IRA, I feel like the funds available at fidelity are superior to these.
I’m just looking for another opinion on this before I make any decision.
Thank you!

Bank of America - Bank of America small business card utter nightmare!
Fraudulent charges trying to get them resolved since October. Last month I finally got them resolved and they sent me a letter about the claim. Closed the account, 0 balance. Today they took back a credit for 78.20 and now the account shows a balance even though it is closed I cannot pay it! Already brought in CFPB!
State Farm - State Farm Nightmare
I was rear ended in January and filed a claim with state farm
The girl who hit me was in her fathers car which had state farm, liability coverage she has dairyland with full coverage.
I am a State Farm customer (not after this) and was assured that this matter would be settled quickly. I was told by my first adjuster that my car was a total loss, since my car was newer that it would exceed her father’s liability coverage and they would open a claim with dairyland on my behalf to get the rest. They complete the estimate, do not contact me on what their assessments were and also changed my adjuster without contacting me whatsoever with my new adjusters contact information. I had to find this out on my own by calling after hearing nothing for two weeks after the estimate was complete. They said “maybe” my settlement would be 8k flat for reasons they seem to not be able to answer, they haven’t even offered me a settlement by this point. They said they valued my car at 11k. Which honestly would be a joke if it is 8k. I talked to my adjuster on Thursday and she is reading my information on my policy and for whatever reason State Farm has put that I have dairyland as my insurance on my claim.
I feel at this point my claim has been handled with complete negligence and I am at a loss on what to do, I genuinely would like to move on with my life as this has caused me a lot of emotional and psychological distress.
What are questions I could ask to understand this process more, or get traction with? Why would they open a claim on my behalf just to tell me to “do it myself” later on?
I have never been in a wreck like this before so this is just another learning experience, but I do not feel as if my claim is being handled properly or correctly. Any advice would be appreciated, also please don’t be rude as I am already going through enough with this debacle.
my carrier - Does loyalty matter?
I have had a commercial policy with the same carrier for 13 years under my ownership, but as far as I know my parents and grandparents have used the same carrier since the 1970s.
Does this matter? Is a claim a claim and you get dropped or treated the same as anyone else that just signed on with them last year?
I called my carrier and wanted to talk to my underwriter to verify my agent is actually trying to implement the changes i have asked for.
In the past my last broker lied to me about putting in for higher fire coverage, and how I caught them was by calling my underwriter.
This time when I called I got someone in member services but she wouldn't transfer me and was super passive aggressive, laughed at me etc. I want to actually use a company that's not hostile to me trying to verify if my agent is actually doing what they say.
Long story short after what I believe is 49 years with one company I want to know if it's worth staying or if it matters?
insurance company - Insurance claims on new home?
I’d like to know what insurance claims have been requested on a home I’m closing on. It just seems smart to understand what has occurred with this very large purchase I’m making.
I asked my insurance company for this and they said they aren’t able to see that, which I know has to be a lie? Isn’t that the primary thing they look at when underwriting?
Is there any way I can get this information?
Farmers Insurance - Homeowners liability coverage
I am trying to understand my Farmers insurance homeowners liability coverage and farmers isn’t being helpful at all. Basically what happened is while my wife and I were out of the country, my child accidentally kicked my sprinkler line near the drip system and broke it. Long story short, it flooded a room in my neighbors home over about a 7 day period. They just kept mopping it up and hoping it would stop. I’m not sure why they let it go on for that long but they did. Anyway it ruined some of the floor and caused some moisture to settle into the drywall. It was about a 15 ft x 15 ft area of water damage. Will my homeowners liability insurance cover the water damage in this situation?
Erie Insurance - Typical Property Adjuster Timeline?
Had 2 trees uproot one June 19th, one which put a big gouge in the roof and another broke a window in the family room.
We have Erie Insurance, so this was in the middle of their IT outage. Luckily, we had ServPro button up the house pretty quickly. Erie was good with that, even though it took a week to get a claim number for ServPro.
But after that, things have been moving at a glacial pace. Erie reached out on June 30th to say they were assigning a field adjuster. That adjuster finally showed up on July 7th. They mentioned putting the need for a structural engineer to look at the roof trusses, and they would put that in their report. They said it would take 2-3 days before the report would be shared with us.
When we contacted Erie on Friday, July 11th regarding our report … our desk adjuster is out of office until Wednesday the 16th!!!
Is this kind of timeline typical? I know the they had an outage. But it’s been almost a month since the incident. And between clearing the huge trees, the structural engineer, and time for the actual repairs … it will be at least another month before the house is repaired.
