Progressive - Is 155 a month liability only insurance on 2 cars too much?
I’ve been paying about 80 a month liability only on one car, added another now it’s 255 this month and 155 from here on out. For context I’m a 24 year old male in NM. I’ve had a good amount of traffic tickets idk how negatively that’s impacting my rates. I have progressive. I always hear about people paying way less than me for liability or the same as I pay for liability they get full coverage for that price. I’d like full coverage but the price would be a lot, if I’m gonna have liability only I’d like it to be nice and cheap. Am I doomed to high prices being a 24 y/o with traffic tickets? Where can I get it cheaper? You always see those insurance commercials claiming super low rates online but I don’t even waste my time figuring it’s bs. I haven’t shopped around in a long time is it worth it to now? Or even better than shopping around, maybe someone here can tell me where and how to get it much cheaper.
GEICO - how do I bundle home + auto + umbrella and not overpay
CA folks — need some insurance wisdom.
New home in contract → current home becomes secondary. 2 autos + want an umbrella policy. Been with GEICO forever but they keep hiking rates.
What’s the smartest way to shop & compare bundled quotes for all of this in California’s nightmare insurance market? Any go-to brokers or tools you recommend?
Odie - Transition from ManyPets to Odie – Feeling Overcharged, What Should I Do?
I was previously with ManyPets and paid about $64/month for my pet’s insurance. Now that ManyPets has discontinued its US operations, my policy is being transitioned to Odie. However, under this transition I’m forced to pay $71/month for a plan that only offers a $20k annual limit at 90% reimbursement.
What makes it worse is that new Odie Direct customers can get a policy for $37/month with a $40k annual limit—but of course, switching to that means starting a new policy (with waiting periods and loss of coverage for pre-existing conditions).
I had no say in this change, and I’m feeling like I’m being unfairly charged more for lower benefits. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
• Is there any legal angle or consumer protection law that might help contest these changes?
• Should I try negotiating further with Odie or consider switching to Odie Direct despite the downsides?
• What have your experiences been in situations like this?
Any insights, advice, or similar stories would be greatly appreciated!
Pets Best - Switching with Pre-existing Conditions, Acupuncture. Pets Best to Physicians Mutual?
Hello kind community. I am trying to make a decision for our 7.5 year old sweetheart.
So, we have been on Pet's Best since she was young as my wife was able to get a discount through her employer.
At 5yo, our dog suffered a bout of IVDD stage 4 and needed a hemilaminectomy surgery. (came in to something like 14k and we maxed out our 5k coverage.) The surgery went great and she recovered relatively quickly with the help of a lot of alternative therapies. Unfortunately, when we signed on for Pets Best, we did not opt for RAC care (rehab, acupuncture, chiro) We didnt even know this was an option at the time, it would have been a massive help had we had the RAC, so tip - OPT FOR IT no matter what, or make sure your provider covers this. Pets do SO well with "alternative therapy".
Since the IVDD, we have been regularly seen by a vet who specializes in holistic offerings. She receives acupuncture and laser therapy and it keeps her in really great shape. She is about 80% to where she was pre-IVDD, but if we go to long without the acupuncture, her mobility dips some. These visits cost about $275 each.
She also developed an eye condition (Keratitis & Keratopathy) about a year and a half ago, and has been seen by an eye specialist to reverse and retard the condition with eyedrops with great success. At this point they only want to see her 1x/year. Latest note from this vet reads "She has no active keratitis, controlled (if anything, improved) corneal pigmentation, and is otherwise normal on exam." Pets best has been paying our claims for these visits.
The only other claim we've submitted was for getting a foxtail pulled out of her ear canal.

So, Pets Best sent us a notice of a 2x increase in our premium, leading us to look in to switching to see if we could get something better. Through this wonderful community I came across Physicians Mutual and am feeling like it will be a better option, and that even if we end up paying more we could be in better hands.
My fear, however, is that in the switch, anything related to her eyes will be seen as pre-existing. It would be great to get that yearly eye specialist covered but I understand that it may not be if its related to the keratitis. But in the future if she develops cataracts, ulcers, etc in her eye, could it be denied?
**My main question**, is related to her mobility upkeep. Would we be able to get acupuncture + laser covered under alternative therapy, as "preventative care" instead of having it tied to the IVDD? Its unclear in Physicians Mutual's documentation how they provide/decide for alternative care. She has not had any incidents related to IVDD in 2.5 years, but there is always a risk that it could show in another area of her spine later.
Does anyone here use Physicians Mutual for Acupuncture, or has anyone here successfully added RAC care to their Pet's Best policy post-incident? I feel that even without her history, as she ages we would be opting for regular acupuncture and laser as her primary preventative care.
Any insight is greatly appreciated, thanks everyone.
Hagerty - Hagerty Agree value polity - Online or local agent?
Hello,
Considering a agree value policy for a 2004 Lexus LS via Hagerty.
While I was able to get a quote and even approval online with Hagerty, before paying I wanted to talk to them. The wait times were pretty long. Is it a bad idea to deal with them when there is no local agent?
Now, those who have agreed value collector car policy with Hagerty, did you do it all online? Or did you go with a local agent if there are local agents for Hagerty?
thanks.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan - BCBSM vs Medicaid Question
Hi all,
I’m in a common and frustrating position revolving around paying for health insurance. Here is my situation.
I work part-time and go to school part-time, so I don’t qualify for full-time benefits for work or any equivalent part-time healthcare offers in Michigan So that’s the first part.
I gross about $600 a month working and my healthcare premium is $650 a month alone for BCBSM HMO Gold plan. It just is not feasible to pay that much for healthcare anymore- especially, out of pocket in full.
What I do have is Medicaid and CarePayment accounts that help me cover the costs and pay down medical debt in a reasonable time frame. I need some coverage because I have a mental health condition and commonly use: medications, psychiatry, therapy, and labs.
I am wondering if I can get by just with MI Medicaid. Is that risky since Medicaid has very low reimbursement rates? Or is it reasonable to go with Medicaid and just try to be frugal medically?
What I want to avoid is going for routine procedures and leaving with a $1200 bill, AND paying $650 a month only to use it half hazardously.
Thanks.
My insurance company - Dirt Bike accident
My son was hanging out with his girlfriend’s family when her dad pulled out a couple of dirt bikes and offered to let them drive around the block on them. No helmets, no licenses, bikes aren’t registered or even road worthy.
My son is 15 with a learners permit. It was 8pm, dark, and the bikes had no headlamps. Long story short, my son ended up running into a car, causing $7K in damages and losing part of a toe in the process.
My insurance company will not cover this because it was outside the scope of the coverage provided for the learners permit. The driver is threatening a lawsuit.
I’m angry at the girlfriend’s father. I would have never allowed him to get on that bike if I had known about it. I knew the consequences if something like this happened. In addition, the father apparently verbally told the driver he would cover the damages but he hasn’t returned my call.
Can the driver sue me? Shouldn’t she just file with her insurance company for uninsured/under insured motorist coverage?
State Farm - Desperate, poor, + confused
I bought a used 2012 Volvo during the pandemic at the height of used car prices out of desperation. I needed a car. I have $12600 left on the loan. The car itself is now valued at $4000. It currently requires $15000+ in repairs to pass safety and emissions. I’ve had nothing but problems with it since purchase a couple of years ago. I have put about $1500 into the car so far in repairs. I suspect I was sold a lemon, one shop suspected a history of flood damage, another refused to comment if that was a possibility. I do have gap insurance, not sure if that can apply here. I cannot afford to fix the vehicle or pay out the loan and get a new vehicle. Between the original dealer, the lender, State Farm, auto repair shops, I feel pretty constantly let down by customer service. I also struggle to understand all of the policies and legalese. Is there anything I can do here? I’m so overwhelmed.
Ed Jones - Ed Jones CFP's response to my question
Not sure if this is allowed, but here goes:
My employer retirement $ is with Empower, and 100% of it in a **T Rowe Price 2025** fund. I'll only be working for them for 5 years tops, and this $ will not be a big factor in retirement. This TRP 2025 has done great, barely lost anything at all. *Most* of our $ is with Ed Jones, and one of the funds they have me in is **TRP Large Cap Growth** fund. This fund is not doing as well as the 2025. It may be important to know that I am not contributing anything new to Ed Jones, this $ is growing / declining as funds do. They have me in a ratio of growth / stability appropriate for my age (62, want to retire at 65).
I asked the Ed Jones, guy, "The TRP 2025 is doing great, the Large Cap Growth is not doing as well, is there a compelling reason to NOT to move from the Large Cap and into the 2025?"
Ed Jones guy answers with "The market goes up and down, don't watch the news so much, we're re-investing dividends and buying low. Dips happen and then we recover..." or words to that effect.
***It's like he didn't answer my question, I know the market goes up / down, I'm not saying "sell everything" in a panic. SO, is he just dodging my question for some reason? Are there valid reasons to NOT switch from one TRP fund to another?***
All State - Help me get my basement flood covered?
My basement flooded this week with 5 inches of water. We have had a lot of rain. The sump pump appears to have given out and the backup sump pump didn't kick on. This has not fully been confirmed as the reason for the water because when the plumbers arrived the pit was only 2/3 full and water wasn't flowing out. BUT we have not been able to identify another cause or factor for the flood. The plumber mentioned that it could be due to malfunctioning drain tiles. We had an inspection and it was confirmed our house does not have drain tiles.
We have insurance through All State and our policy states the following is **not included.**
>
Water or any other substance overflows from a sump pump, sump pump well or other system designed for the removal of subsurface water which is drained from a foundation area of a structure.
I don't think there is much room for negotiating coverage with All State, but posting here because I am **desperate**. Does anyone have advice on what I can look into or how to try get this covered? The assessor is scheduled to come in 2 days and trying to get a case out together. TY!
