Geico - First time car insurance
So when I bought my first car under my parents insurance I was paying them $200 a month. I had one minor accident, no speeding tickets however I did have window tint tickets I forgot to pay after I sold the car shortly after.
Not paying those caused my license to be suspended so I applied for quotes and got crazy responses like $1100 a month from geico.
I see ppl here suggest insurance brokers often as a last resort so that’s what I did. Got 2 diff quotes of $411 and $398. Since I had already bought the car and needed insurance asap I took it.
But my question is do I really have to pay 50% of the cars value in insurance annually? Is this really my life from now on? Or will it be a bit better now that I’ve unsuspended my license
CAR IS A 2012 ACURA TL SH AWD btw
Location: NY
25yo male
TL;DR: Bought expensive $400 insurance when my license was suspended. Can I get cheap insurance since I unsuspended it 2 days later? Or not because of my one minor accident 3 years ago
MetLife - Thinking of getting MetLife pet insurance for my dog
I’m thinking about getting MetLife pet insurance for my dog and wanna know if it’s actually worth it. I’ve seen they cover stuff like vaccines, dental cleanings, flea/tick meds and give about 80% back after a $250 deductible. The price seems okay too.
But I’ve also heard some people had their claims denied for weird reasons (like needing medical records from before they adopted their dog which makes no sense). So I’m kinda torn.
Would really appreciate honest opinions. Thanks.
Lemonade - Grandma got dementia so we took over care of dog- pet insurance won’t change name on insurance without losing pre-existing care- advice appreciated
My grandma has a dog and we helped her get insurance for him a while back, but her dementia has progressed quickly and pretty dramatically so my mom has taken over his care. (My grandma lives with my parents so she’s always had a big part in his care but now my mom has him full time).
We have Lemonade. My mom told them what was going on and they said they could add my mom as a co-owner, but then she couldn’t make adjustments or any changes to his policy. Otherwise, she would have to cancel his account completely and start a new one under her name. She wanted to cancel it and start it under her name since sadly my grandma will not get better and she wants to add dentals to his plan, but he did have anal gland issues this year and lemonade said that if he has anal gland issues in the future they would no longer be covered under my moms plan because they would be considered a pre-existing condition now.
Just looking for advice on what to do. It doesn’t seem fair, but I know insurance isn’t fair lol. Should we look at other insurance options? Or just add my mom as a co-owner? The anal gland issue was expensive so we don’t want to lose coverage on that if it comes back but also it sucks that my grandma has something we couldn’t predict nor control and now we’re in this predicament. Any advice would be helpful!!
Amica - Arbitration for Rental Car Costs
Good afternoon,
I was in a car accident in December, 2024. OP was found at fault within 24 hours of the claim being submitted, however, it took over 2 months to have my car repaired. My insurance company only covered 30 days of rental coverage and I paid out of pocket around $600 for the additional days needed. I submitted a claim to have that reimbursed and my insurance company stated they are filing an Arbitration. Is this usual for this case scenario? How long do these usually take to resolve? State Farm is OP's insurance and I have Amica.
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield - Marketplace vs. Private
Question about marketplace insurance vs. private. My husband and I are partners in our own business so we got on a family marketplace plan this year after much due diligence on my part to ensure our providers were in network. We found out the hard way that just because some hospitals in a health network are covered, doesn't mean all are covered. This was upsetting to us because having both worked for the large health networks around us, we know where you go for procedures matters. I did a search of all marketplace plans for the 2 hospitals we prefer and NONE are in network. I got an email recently from an insurance broker who quoted me a price for Anthem BCBS that is a few hundred dollars cheaper a month than our marketplace plan including subsidies. There is a small deductible that I don't have with the marketplace plan and some limits on how often we can utilize a service but this would be OK with me if we could go to the hospitals we prefer. I'm also worried the healthcare subsidies will go away next year so finding a cheaper plan puts me a bit at ease. Is there anything I need to be super aware of with private plans? I'm curious how a private plan could be cheaper than a marketplace plan which is what is making me wonder if it's too good to be true. Thanks for any insight you can give!
Terminix - Terminix screwed me on an exclusion
This company charged me $1800 for a full exclusion and didn't follow through on the work. They said they would hold my card on file then charged it without asking. The work was not completed and I cannot get a call back from Terminix despite multiple tries and paying for a year of full service. I am disputing the charge and I hope nobody else gets tricked into trusting them.
Auto-Owners - I owe $12,000 to a collection agency
Location: Tampa, FL
Hi everyone, I just want to know if you were me would you fight this with a lawyer?
I was in a car accident in Florida in December 2024 while uninsured. A collection agency (on behalf of the original auto Insurance) is now coming after me for over $12,000. They didn’t notify me properly—I only found out after the DMV suspended my license and said I owe $15k. They’ve only sent a vague letter and a redacted repair estimate, but no real proof of liability, payment, or how they came up with that amount. The original insurance company of other driver -Auto-Owners never contacted me at all. I genuinely had no idea they submitted the claim. So all of this is so confusing.
Does this seem normal? It seems both companies aren’t giving me the info I need at all but want me to just cough up $12 or 15k
Thanks in advance!
Meritrust - Cosigned on my ex's credit card. Payments haven't been made for years.
My ex and I have been separated since mid-2017, but his Meritrust credit card is still showing up on my credit report. I've worked hard these past few years to knock out the debt I created for myself as a dumb 20-something year old, but I cannot get rid of this debt. I myself never even used this card when we were together. I don't even know why he asked me to cosign in the first place, but of course I said yes because he was my husband at the time. He won't speak to me about it, and I've tried reaching out to his family, but nothing has changed. I've tried contacting Meritrust, but the only option they give me is to settle the debt myself and close the account. If anyone has any advice on how to proceed with this, I'd really appreciate it.
State Farm - Car Insurance costs. Am I overpaying?
Just got my renewal notice, and my car insurance jumped to $280/month out of nowhere. No accidents, no tickets just the usual "rate adjustments."
I drive a 2017 Toyota Corolla, full coverage, and I’m with State Farm right now. I mostly use my car for commuting (about 30 minutes each way), and I’m in my early 30s.
For those of you with clean records, what are you paying, and who are you insured with? Thinking it might be time to shop around.
Appreciate any recommendations! 🚗💨
