Embrace - Ridiculous reason about preexisting conditions and refusing reimbursement
This October, I submitted a claim about hoarse voice for my cat. They refused my claim and stated my cat had eye discharge last November according to the medical history so they extended the preexisting condition window of upper respiratory infection. That completely makes no sense! Because last year when we took our cat to the vet and mentioned he has some eye discharge. And the vet explained to us he was newly adopted, and there might be many possible reasons for that such as new environment or new food, no need to treat and the cat was in good condition. However, the claim adjuster made the decision only because of the eye discharge. A lot of diseases can lead to eye discharge. Will they attribute the symptom to all those diseases? Then they replied if we wanted to submit an appeal they need a statement from the vet to provide the evidence that eye discharge was not related to URI. WHAT?!!! They don't have any logic and asked us and vet to spend more time to prove ourselves. BTW, the price increased a lot for a new year
Healthy Paws - Horrible experience with this company
I had Healthy Paws for nearly a decade, and they assured me that they would never raise premiums based on age or claims. Unfortunately, that promise changed. When my dog turned 8/9 years old, they've increased his premium to $250 a month, which is more than my own health insurance. Looking back, I regret paying the increasing rates over the years. In ten years, I had only been reimbursed between $250 and $500 but paid exponentially.
My dog had been with Healthy Paws since he was just a few weeks old. A few months before the largest premium hike, he had a $350 emergency visit that they denied, claiming it was a pre-existing condition. This was puzzling, as he had no prior conditions, and I had to have a check-up at their request prior to him being insured. They even asked me to resend all his records from the past years. After some back and forth, they eventually paid some of the claim, minus a $100 deductible, but the stress of dealing with them while taking care of my sick dog and the insane premium increases caused me to cancel my insurance as I wasn’t seeing the value for what I had been paying.
I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for pet insurance or considering setting aside money in a savings or money market account instead. Be sure to check Better Business Bureau reviews before making a decision. I've looked into potential class action suits but only found one in Washington.
Embrace - Medical history
When signing up, I promptly submitted all medical history documentation. I wanted to make sure I know all pre-existing conditions. They kept delaying reviewing the documents while having no problem taking my money for premiums. At some point, it got ridiculous and I canceled. What a waste of time and money!
Pets Best - Long wait times and opaque coverage
The claims take months and representatives are unhelpful with explaining the policies. I called to ask if a service was covered and they just said "It's what's in the benefits guide" when I was asking for clarification on what's in the benefits because I read it and didn't understand it. Terrible coverage and really not worth it. Despite close to $1,000 of vet expenses this year plus paying over $300 for this insurance, I barely met the deductible and have only received like $40 in reimbursement. So I have spent more money on the insurance than it is worth. If I knew this I would've shopped around longer for other insurances but it's too late to switch at this point because now my pet has "pre-existing conditions".
Nationwide - Nationwide is not even close to your side
Sadly, our 4 year old golden retriever was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Total vet bill is going to exceed 14K. Nationwide’s annual ceiling limit 5K. Rip off beware of these scammers.
MetLife - BIRTH DEFECTS AND CONGENITAL ARE PRE-EXISTING
I bought this insurance because they claim to cover hereditary/congenital. Well that is a load of garbage. My dog had a very rare skeletal muscle hamartoma - it was congenital (as he was born with it) as well as Von Willebrand. Now at the time I got the insurance I was only aware of the Von Willebrand's but they told me it would be covered. Well we submit for his surgery to have his throat mass removed after waiting on a final histopathology only to be denied. They deemed it PREEXISTING. of course it was preexisting it was congenital. He was born with it.

Embrace - Cancelled after a few months when my…
Cancelled after a few months when my very first claim was denied because my otherwise healthy dog hadn’t needed to go to vet in a specific time period before the claim so they thought this could be pre-existing. It was a dog bite. Seriously. Can’t make this stuff up.
Edited to add after seeing reaponse: I was told that none of the claim was covered. I knew the ear infection wouldn’t be.
Embrace - Claim denied by trying to change the vets diagnosis
My claim was denied based on your diagnosis not the vets diagnosis. I callled you on it and you said you paid a partial claim, which I have not received but did not reply to my request for the full refund.
