Progressive - Am i getting quoted too much? 484$ a month for minimum liability coverage
Hi! I'm 19 and I recently bought a car and got my license. I called up progressive for car insurance since most of my family is with them and they said that I would have to pay around 484$ a month for minimum liability coverage. This surprised me because the first time my siblings enrolled with them they paid a little over 200$ and that wasn't too long ago. My car isn't new either, it's a 2007 Honda Pilot. If anyone knows any better insurance companies who aren't as expensive please let me know!
Trupanion - 2 year old doodle who eats everything
I have a almost 2 year doodle whom I just spent over 7K on for sugery to remove a sock.2 days after surgery the site got infected and the sutures ripped. I’ve been looking at pet insurance reviews but it all seems so overwhelming and it feels like the good and the bad are balanced.
Currently i’m looking for a company that will pay up front which based on what i’m seeing that would be Trupanion as i’m constantly living in fear and has gotten extreme anxiety from always thinking he’s gonna swallow something again.
I’ve always swiped out my savings to practically save his life.
Any advice or help would be appreciated!!
Progressive - Was in a car accident, my insurance paid for the damages, then the other parties insurance sent a check
I was rear-ended in late January by a driver insured by Maryland Auto Insurance. I filed a claim with my insurance company (Progressive) who deemed that the other party was liable for damages. I reached out to both the other insured and MD Auto Insurance, and was given the run around for over a month— with MD Auto Insurance saying that their insured had not been returning their calls and the other party stating that MD Auto Insurance was not answering their calls. Progressive got involved and tried to call MD Auto Insurance 2x after I basically begged them to, and they weren’t able to reach them and gave up.
I consulted some lawyers online to see if I had a case, and they all recommended using my insurance (i.e. paying my $750 deductible for the damages, Progressive paying the rest and having Progressive attempt to get my money back through subrogation). I spoke with Progressive who said that not all subrogation attempts are successful, and that they most often aren’t… meaning that my desuctible would just be lost completely.
I ended up going that route because the damage on my car was such an eye sore. I paid $750 and Progrssive ended up paying $761 (total cost of repair was ~$1,500. The repairs were completely last week. Today, I received an ~$1,800 check from MD Auto Insurance for the damages to my car. They did not call me at all to accept liability or tell me that they were mailing a check. So now, I have an $1,800 check to cover the damages though the car has already been fixed and I have paid my deductible.
Should I tell Progressive about this check or should I just cash it without telling them? To be honest, Progressive really pissed me off when they wouldn’t assist me in talking to MD Auto… they called twice and gave up so easily while I called multiple times a day for weeks. I’m afraid however that in the subrogation process, MD Auto Insurance will tell Progressive and then MD Auto will adjust the amount (they estimated $1,800 in damages, but the repair was actually $1,500), and I will lost that extra $300. Other possibility is that the subrogation process will fail because MD Auto rarely answers the phone and has such a long and terrible phone system, and Progressive would close the case and I would be allowed to keep the money in total.
What should I do?
TLDR: I was rear ended, other party gave me the run around to avoid liability, my insurance paid (after I paid a $750 deductible), and I just received a check from the other parties insurance. Do I let my insurance know?
Trupanion - Trupanion Pre-Existing Condition Reversal Chances
Our puppy went to a few puppy socials in the past week. Today he started having a loud dry cough, so we took him to the vet. The vet diagnosed him with a minor respiratory illness. The vet wasn’t concerned because he was still eating well and had no change in energy level, but still prescribed him some cough suppressant.
We mistakenly filed a claim to Trupanion at the vet to try to cover the medication. However, we were on day 28 of the 30 day waiting period and Trupanion denied the claim. Furthermore, Trupanion now saying that “cough” is a pre-existing condition and we will no longer be able to submit any claims for “cough” in the future.
I saw that some insurance providers delineate between curable and non-curable pre-existing conditions. Does anyone know if Trupanion does this? Additionally, is there any way to get the “cough” removed as a pre-existing condition from Trupanion or are we screwed?
Thank you!
Trupanion - Paying deductible if vet bill is less than
Hi everyone, my deductible for trupanion is $750. I’m paying $65/monthly, which I think is insanely high. I have a miniature dachshund who’s 1.5 years old.
His ear has been looking red and we have an upcoming check up at the vet next week. If an infection, they’ll likely prescribed ear drops or antibiotics, which I’m assuming will be a hell of a lot less than $750.
I am looking for some guidance on this or others experiences, when the vet bill is way less than the deductible. I understand it’s per condition so in the future if he has ear issues, it would be covered (which is likely considering his cute floppy ears). I am unsure what to do, as I don’t want to be denied claims in the future if more ear troubles arise and I don’t submit one now.
Hope this makes sense. Thank you!
State Farm - CA home insurance and trust
Thinking about moving my primary residence into a trust. However, I was grandfathered into a state farm home insurance very affordable for my location and I doubt I’ll be able to get my home insured since it’s now high fire risk since a map redraw.
I am also thinking about moving my home under a trust.
Does changing benefiacury of a home insurance incur a risk of losing my current policy (like separate underwriting is needed?)
Geico - Cancellation Due to Roof Damage
I have a somewhat unusual situation. I live in FL and my roof is 18 years old. I have been with Geico for 4 years and I recently got my PMI deleted and when I called the mortgage company they said oh we have this partnership with this broker and could get you a discounted policy. Great, did that, saved about $900 for the year, new policy started mid Jan. I told the broker about the roof and didn’t want to switch until they confirmed it was OK and he said yes. Well I just got a cancellation notice for 4/1 due to some broken shingles so will only be with them for 2.5 months unless I submit repairs. I actually already had a few roofers come out earlier in the year. I contacted them and everyone said the repair vs replacement timeline would be about the same. So, I signed a contract for a replacement and permits were submitted a few days ago. They are going to try to get it done before 4/1 but can’t guarantee it.
I submitted my contract to the broker and asked for a 30-60 day extension for the cancellation. Seems to me that it would be better to keep the policy on a brand new roof and not refund me the yearly premium around 4/1 if they can wait a month or 2 but whatever.
Here is my question. Should I start contacting other companies now? Do I have to disclose the cancellation notice? Will they take notice to the fact that I was with one company for years and this new company for ~2 months. I don’t have any insurance claims on anything in the past 2 decades and that is a database they can search, correct?
Safeco - Safeco RV Claim
I have comprehensive and liability coverage for my Class C RV through Safeco. The coverage is for full-time RV living. We've had a couple things happen.
First, we had a tire blow out. This caused damage to the door to the LP tank, the shelf that holds the LP tank, and it literally blew a hole into our RV. It didn't cause any frame damage and the hole is in a location that doesn't make it a safety risk (it's under some drawers).
When this happened, I didn't even think about insurance and that would continue for a while (mea culpa, I was really sick at the time).
Fast forward a month. We'd just gotten onto I-90 near Utica NY when the bolts for one of our tires sheared off. We had to get towed and the next day the tire itself was fixed. There was some minor structural damage to the RV (cracked mirror oddly enough, a couple of dings on the back end) but then also began having cascading electrical issues: I can't confirm at this time but I think one of the bolts damaged something, most likely the RV's inverter.
So I submit the claim for the tow, the repair to the tire and electrical damage, plus the damage for the tire blowout.
We spoke to the adjuster the same day and she told us we should take the RV in for an estimate. We did that and the person who did the estimate told us that the insurance company would try to low ball us. Which they did.
The adjuster knew we were getting an estimate as she'd asked us to. Meanwhile, they had their own estimator come up with some figures based entirely on the pictures that I submitted. And yeah, lowball they were - $1700 for the blowout damage and about $3500 for the damage when the bolts sheared on the tire. Each amount was less my deductible. That was yesterday.
I sent the adjuster a text and told her the figures were very low, the labor rate alone was half what it should be, and the estimates seem to have some issues from the tire blowout damage and from the bolt shearing mixed up, so one of the estimates has some of both.
No response.
I know the company we went to submitted their estimate yesterday. But today, Safeco paid out based on their estimate. And they sent the payment to a random address that has no connection to me.
I did email the adjuster and told her this isn't acceptable, it's not even based on an estimate by someone who has *looked* at my RV, and you send it to some address I've never heard of. I don't expect a response to that, either.
So beyond the address issue, what are my options here? My RV is barely driveable and I live in it. I'm positive that the amount of damage to it is more than it's worth (it's an older RV). I am really discouraged at this point.
HealthyPaws - HealthyPaws increasing premium by 58%
I just got an email that they're increasing premium from $38 to $60 in 60 days.
Any suggestions on another insurance company?
unknown - What should my next move be? New to all of this
Last week I got my settlement value for my totaled car which was very very undervalued due to them not comparing the same vehicles. Their excuse was “we go off of the VIN, they did not have any ST models in the area for comparison so that was the closest model to your vehicle” that was word for word from an email I received.
For context I have a ford focus st and they compared to the ford focus se, the two cars are VERY different in build and price. They are saying I can invoke my appraisal clause and get an independent appraiser at my expense. What should I do? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!
