Embrace - I'm not sure I will continue with this company …
I'm not sure I will continue with this company. They never seem to cover anything, even wellness. You have to add on wellness, and its basically a savings account you pay into. Any balance does not roll over year to year.
I will also add that when you recieve a denial, it is from an AI generated claims provider. So, I am not conviced that an actual human is making the decisions that affect my pet's health. Much like their response to my review ...
Embrace - Nope nope nope nope

Embrace - Coverage is rather expensive
Coverage is rather expensive, and the Wellness Plan isn't really coverage because of what the monthly premium for it... Staff are very helpful.
Embrace - Unfortunately
Unfortunately, I can no longer trust Embrace. Here's why:
When I first signed up, I had to choose which breed my dog was. It is a Mini Australian Bernedoodle (a mix between 4 breeds) and there was no option to select "bernedoodle', so I selected "Mixed Breed" (which is accurate). In addition, Bernedoodles are not even recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club (AKC).
My original quote was ~$52/month. Six months later, after they saw that one of my veterinarian records said my dog was a bernedoodle, they said they needed to change the breed classification, which increased my premiums by 92%.
Then 1 month later, they raised the premium by 11% more as part of an annual premium rate increase.
Then several months later, they increased the premium again by 33%.
And just recently, they increased the premium by ~50%.
I have not had any major/expensive claims that would warrant these increases.
So I am cancelling my policy and going elsewhere.
Trupanion - ABYSMAL service
ABYSMAL service. Our dog had a medical emergency that required him to have an emergent exploratory laparotomy. During this crisis, we learned our policy was never activated due to the lack of follow through on the end of Trupanion. Trupanion assumed responsibility of this mishandling and assured us that our policy would be able to be retro activated and we would have to pay the difference of the back dated policy. We were originally given an estimated time of 12 weeks for this to resolve. It has now been 30+ weeks and no updates in sight. Better yet, we have been strung along, with the hope that we will be reimbursed for this $6,000+ surgery. Everytime we reach out to Trupanion we are assured that there will be follow-up but no updates have ever been provided by this organization. Every single interaction has been facilitated by my husband and I where we are met with "I understand this is frustrating" or "we will have _____ follow up with you" but there is never any follow-up or resolve to this issue. At this point, the services this company "provides" are non existent and completely fraudulent. If I could rate this company a zero I ABSOLUTELY would. Do better Trupanion.
Trupanion - My dog had diarrhea the first week we…
My dog had diarrhea the first week we got her. So now any time she ever gets diarrhea Trupanion declares it a preexisting condition. Absolutely ridiculous. Horrible company.
Embrace - Fake promotion
They ran a promotion for a $25 visa gift card to add a new pet. I called to add one and was waiting on the gift card and never received it so I called back and the rep said that it was apparently only online if you add the pet yourself which I was going to do. I had it set up online but I only called because I had questions on coverages. So they’ll only reward you if you don’t talk to someone? It should work both ways and now I’m out $25.00. I would think as a courtesy they could still send it or credit me in some way due to the poor communication, but even if I cancel my pet and re add her online it won’t make a difference now. Never had issues before now and this is something I felt they should’ve taken initiative to make right.
Pets Best - Disappointed and unsure why I pay so much
My first two vet visits were covered almost 100%. When I took my girl for a wellness check for her 2nd birthday they wouldn't even cover her rabies vaccine or distemper. $415 bill and they paid $117. Why am I paying a premium if suddenly I can "cap" on necessary vaccines and care for a healthy dog? Even in the fine print I didn't see that. Disappointed in my pet insurance choice now when I expected the vaccines and heartworm care and tests to be covered.
Trupanion - THEY DONT COVER ANYTHING AND HIKE PRICES WITHOUT NOTICE WHILE THEIR CEO MAKES 1 MILLION A YEAR
I initially chose Trupanion based on positive reviews and their direct payment option to veterinarians. However, I've found that many vets and clinics don't accept direct payment, significantly diminishing this benefit.
My cat's diagnosis of feline asthma required a cardiology consult, which was unfortunately denied coverage by Trupanion. Despite letters from both my vet and the cardiologist, they classified it as a "wellness visit," even though it was essential for proper diagnosis and cost nearly $1,000. While a subsequent X-ray consult was eventually covered after multiple appeals, the entire process was exhausting, and I eventually gave up.
Trupanion also notified me via email in December of a $20 premium increase for my other cat's policy, citing "increasing cost of care in my area." However, when I compared quotes from other companies with the same coverage, co-pay, and deductible in my area, their prices were significantly lower. I canceled this policy.
I retained my asthmatic cat's Trupanion policy due to concerns about pre-existing condition coverage. However, this month's premium unexpectedly increased by almost $15, without any prior notification (which they are legally required to provide at least 30 days in advance). While they claim to have sent an email on December 14th, I only have record of the email regarding the other cat's premium increase. After comparing current quotes, I found a policy with comparable coverage, deductible, annual limit, and co-pay for half the price, and it even covers my cat's asthma.
While Trupanion may be one of the oldest pet insurance companies, my experience suggests they are far from the best. Their high prices, denial of necessary consults, efforts to avoid payouts, and frequent, poorly communicated price increases are unacceptable. It's especially frustrating considering Trupanion CEO Margi Tooth's nearly $1 million annual salary. The rising cost of pet care is a significant barrier to pet ownership, and companies like Trupanion contribute to this problem. I strongly advise exploring alternative pet insurance providers, as there are many better and more affordable options available.
Spot - SPOT NOT PAYING UNDER CONTRACT DETAILS
We used to have Nationwide for pet insurance until they stopped offering it. With Spot we pay over $100 a month. We have our deductible paid fir year and 90% that they are supposed to pay. Dog had teeth cleaning done with a few extractions. Bill was around $900. We are only getting $150 back from Spot. Looking at coverage they should have paid ALOT more! Funny this us exactly the same amount we got for a $350 bill three weeks prior for blood work. Im getting a feeling Spot is a scam and they lie to get your money. DO NOT USE SPOT!
