Healthy Paws - Beware: They start you low & then BAM!
I just received my annual premium renewal for my Rhodesian Ridgeback from Healthy Paws and I had to call them to make sure their email was accurate: The email said they would be increasing my monthly premium from $157.40/month to $416.65/month. And this was for a policy that we literally never use. On the call, they said that the increase was due to the high amount of pet medical claims in my state. Insta-CANCEL! Sorry, but I won’t be subsiding other people’s pet bills. I’d rather put that $5k per year to work in a CD.
Pets Plus Us - It's always a hit or miss
I really don't trust this insurance company. Every time I submit a claim, you'll never know if they'll cover the costs or come back with something new and denying the reimbursement. They've changed my policy twice and both I've proved that they were wrong. I really don't recommend to anyone and look for a serious insurance instead of Petsplusus.
Spot - Along with your rate increase
Along with your rate increase, do you also plan to raise the allowable expenses for vaccines and preventative care and other items?
Nationwide - You double charged me 1
You double charged me. Cancel my insurance
Embrace - Worst company ever!!
Worst company ever!!! A huge waste of money!
Nationwide - Would not allow me to add second cat
Would not allow me to add second cat. When I tried to follow your instructions, I couldn't log in. I will try again.
Embrace - Pet Insurance Is A Scam
We've been members with Embrace for nearly 7 years. We went from paying ~$30/mo. to now ~$190/mo. for our Great Dane.
In the past 7 years of her life, we have paid 80% more in insurance for her than we have for her standard vet bills.
While I understand we are lucky our dog has been healthy - not covering or having to pay additional for wellness is absurd. Rather if we put that $200/mo. into a savings account each month for the course of our dogs life, we would have both the funds to pay for their vet coverage AND potentially have left over at the end of its life.
What is truly sad is that in the US where hundreds of thousands of animals are euthanized each year, affordable insurance and pet care is dwindling more and more.
I cannot in good faith recommend Embrace to anyone and will also be contacting USAA about the scam of a partnership.
Pets Best - Pet's Best is a scam
Pet's Best pet insurance is a scam. They covered nothing for my dog's multiple visits to the vet for an ear infection. They called it a "pre existing condition" because she had an ear infection years ago. Do not waste your money with this company.
Trupanion - Responsive customer service, lousy rates & deductibles
Customer service was very friendly and responsive. I signed up for a policy for my dog, but ended up canceling it in the 30-day guarantee window. I decided that the starting premiums were far too high, considering I know they will be going up over her life. In a couple years, I would not be able to keep her on the policy after some increases in premiums... and by then, my girl will likely have pre-existing conditions so switching to any other company would be useless.
Also, I had to choose a $1k deductible just to afford it, and I felt like the policy would never be helpful, unless my girl ends up with a condition for the rest of her life. But if she has multiple accidents or illnesses from which she recovers, I will have lots of deductibles I have to meet at $1,000 each. The per accident/per condition deductible felt like it would end up costing me far more than a policy that has an annual deductible, and a deductible that is much lower, since the rates are ones I will be able to afford.
So I chose a different company. My premiums are almost half of Trupanions and my deductible is $250 per year for an unlimited payout at 90% after I meet the deductible each year. Oh, and the one I switched to covers exam fees. If you have to go to an emergency room, that can be anywhere from $125 to $250 just for the examination fee.
I appreciate Trupanion's 24/7 customer service. Unfortunately the bottom line is I can barely afford their starting premiums, I flat out cannot afford the premiums with the deductibles I really need, and in a few years when my girl really needs insurance, I fear their rates would be one where I would be forced to drop her insurance. They stress repeatedly that they are the only company where rates are not increased because of your pet's age. Beware: this does not mean their rates do not increase. I have seen review after review of exorbitant increases in rates.
Also note that, while they boasted of being the only company that uses direct pay (not actually true, btw... the company I chose has a similar process where I don't have to pay up front if my vet hospital is willing to submit the paperwork and wait for payment), if your vet does not participate in direct pay, you still have to pay up front. My vet does not participate in Trupanion's direct pay system... nor do most vet offices that I spoke to in my area. I found one ER that does, otherwise I found none.
Fetch - A Scam That Ignores Customers and Avoids Paying Claims
I am absolutely outraged by the way Fetch Pet Insurance is handling my claim. I filed a formal appeal over a week ago, yet I have received no response, no acknowledgment, and zero effort to resolve the issue. I have emailed every available contact, including the claims department and customer support, and all of my messages are being completely ignored.
My veterinary bill totaled $487.37, but Fetch decided to reimburse me only $110.00—a mere fraction of what should have been covered. My policy states that eligible expenses should be reimbursed at 80% (after a 20% copay), but instead of following this structure, Fetch applied arbitrary reimbursement caps that were far below the promised percentage. They completely excluded certain charges under the excuse that they weren’t covered, even though these services were clearly part of routine and necessary veterinary care. Not a single dollar was applied toward my $400 deductible, meaning my coverage is practically useless until I pay even more out of pocket. It turns out that Fetch has hidden reimbursement limits on all wellness services, which they don’t clearly disclose upfront. For example, my pet’s comprehensive exam was only reimbursed at $30, vaccinations at $10 each, and lab tests at a fraction of their actual cost—despite my policy supposedly covering 80% of expenses after copay.
Since submitting my appeal, I have received no communication whatsoever. Fetch has ignored every single email I’ve sent. This company refuses to engage with customers once they take your money and does not process appeals or respond to formal complaints.
Since Fetch Pet Insurance refuses to act in good faith, I will be filing formal complaints with the State Department of Insurance, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
This company is a scam, and I strongly warn every pet owner to stay away. They gladly take your premiums but will do everything in their power to avoid paying claims. If you want real coverage that actually protects your pet, look elsewhere. Fetch Pet Insurance is nothing but a fraudulent, deceptive business that preys on trusting pet owners.
UPD No one from your team even bothered to contact me—everything you stated is false.
You sent me a $110 check and had the audacity to deduct an additional $3 fee.
I already sent an email to the designated address on February 27, and all the required documents were submitted even earlier. So please, don’t blatantly lie—the facts are not on your side.
By the way, I have already prepared formal complaints for all the relevant departments, and since you have failed to respond to my official request, I will be filing them tomorrow.
