I have been a customer with Nationwide for going on three years for my first dog. Have never had any medical emergencies or illnesses but had great coverage for wellness. I thought since I adopted a rescue dog, I should get her pet insurance as well. I went to use it for an illness that recently happened after the coverage started and I get a call from an investigator by the name of Kelly Cover that was beyond disrespectful and treated me like I was trying to commit fraud. Obviously if I haven't done anything wrong for the three years I've been with the company, why would I do so now? Also, I've worked most of my life in the veterinary industry and know that everything is noted in the animals records and is readily available with an easy phone call. This woman was so disrespectful and didn't have the slightest amount of empathy. Questioning me on how I don't know the exact age of my rescue dog, believe me if she had a tattoo of her birthdate when I got her I'd be going off that but unfortunately when you find a stray you just have to go with what the vet thinks. Then questioning why I didn't get her insurance when I first adopted her? Maybe because I needed time to know if she was a good fit for our family. Also, questioning why my third dog doesn't have insurance? Then she proceeds to laugh at my responses because when my pets are everything to me and I try to get them the quickest best care possible. Then she tells me I didn't answer a question correctly on the application and that is why they are investigating my claim? Ok, Kelly, then take the time to understand the situation I am trying to explain to you then laughing in my face. If I answered a question incorrectly then obviously I didn't understand the question being asked. Not to mention if I answered a question incorrectly then why did it go through underwriting and get approved. Did someone in underwriting not do their research correctly before approving my insurance? I am absolutely appalled by how Nationwide has treated me. This is unacceptable and I will never trust them with my pets again. When I run into an emergency I know Nationwide will NOT be on my side, instead they will threaten me with committing fraud.
Trupanion - Scammers
Scammers. Never covered a thing. Kept raising prices on me even though they said it would stay if we enrolled young. Claim to be the area I live in. Went from $21 to $49! They don’t even ask before they start charging you a new total either. I don’t understand how they can do that. Then I call to cancel and feel absolutely harassed. My husband was listening and was in shock. I had to literally hang up the phone because they wouldn’t pleading for me to stay and giving me sob stories of pets that died because they didn’t have insurance to cover. Insane experience. Do not trust.
Embrace - Not worth it
I signed up for pet insurance with Embrace many years ago. Since then I submitted one invoice for $880 and received less than $200 back as most of the things that were diagnosed on the invoice was not covered. I have been paying $190 every month and this month the price went up to $410!!!!
Are they giving me anything more for this exorbitant increase?? NO.
When I called the company to find out about the doubling of the monthly rate, I could barely understand the representative as her accent was so strong I had to ask her to constantly repeat herself. Then, respectfully I had to ask her to connect me with someone else. Are they sourcing their customer service department out of the country to save money??

I had to put my dog down I had after 14 years. They did not cover a single dime of my 1100.00 bill. I paid them an additional 900.00 for the coverage on my dog. So basically I gave these people 900.00 for free. They say they cover emergency's for your pet, well I would say I took my dog to the vet and he passed not even 2 hours later. I guess they do not consider that an emergency. Dont hand out free money, because that is what you will do with these people.
Nationwide - Strongly dislike policy coverage changed to 80% and that our existing policy was extended to our new dog
Strongly dislike that the policy changed to 80% coverage for the same price of our existing one that is at 100% coverage for our other dog. It would have been great as a 15 yr customer that you all honor our existing policy for our new pup given our customer loyalty and legacy. Greatly disappointed and ask that extend our existing policy to our new dog.

I am extremely disappointed with the handling of my pet insurance claim. My dog, oscar recently suffered an ACL tear, which I was informed by a customer service representative would be covered. However, despite submitting all the necessary medical records from 2023, my claim was denied because of a previous ACL tear in 2021. This decision is frustrating, especially given the assurances I received from your staff when I initially called.
The information provided to me earlier did not align with the final decision, and I feel that the denial of my claim is unfair and does not reflect the coverage I was promised. It’s disheartening to deal with such inconsistencies when I was simply trying to provide the best care for my dog.
I hope the company will take this feedback seriously and reconsider the way it handles claims like mine in the future.
