Trupanion - Okay experience
I submitted my invoice via Trupanion. I waited for a response and when I finally got one it was that my claim was denied. When I spoke to a rep via phone I was told my documents were never received and the documents were received were completely dark. I submitted the invoice thought the clinic and was instantly approved. The other problem I have was the total was 1,930. My deductible is $800 and you all are paying 900. I was never told why the additional amount was covered and when I called I was told it was the exam charge. When I told the exam was waived and indicated in the final invoice I was given the run around. While I’m grateful trupanion paid some money. It doe feel like I was treated like a number. I would have an appreciated someone calling me to tell me what was missing or what was approved and what was denied and why.
MetLife - THE WORST
It’s funny how on their website, they only put the 5/5 star reviews. I have A LOT of things to say about MetLife Pet Insurance. Just save your money and don’t bother. The worst claims process with continual and sometimes immediate denials for tests and procedures clearly outlined as covered. It you try to appeal, it is crickets. I have an appeal still out in the ether from May that I’m sure I’ll never hear anything about or it will just get denied again. It’s not like I am even going to get compensated remotely close to the over $14,000 that I’ve had to spend on bilateral CCL tears that my dog has experienced, but MetLife wants to tell me that they are an “illness” and not from an apparent injury that my vet documentation and SOAP notes clearly outlines on the very first page.
Embrace - Absolutely Disgraceful
I'm a disabled veteran that only used Embrace because USAA endorses it. These people refused to process the claim to put my service dog to rest. It was her 3rd claim ever. This company gladly took tens of thousands of dollars from me over years with no claims then refused to acknowledge or even process the 3rd and final claim that would have resulted in a few hundred bucks of reimbursement. I would never in a million years send another dime to this company or refer them business.
Embrace - Increase $75…
They increased my dogs insurance by $75 per month. Nothing happened to my dog to justify the increase They refused to pay for a routine vaccine/wellness check. I feel they haven't been fair, my dog is older but very healthy.
Embrace - They have continually not followed…
They have continually not followed through with promises made to me when signing up for their service. I should have realized what they where offering outside of what was in writing was BS but I figured since USAA directed me to them they would be trust worthy. I am looking into other services….. not impressed
Nationwide - Your website could use some work
Your website could use some work. It is not user friendly.
Nationwide - Took out a policy more than a week ago…
Took out a policy more than a week ago never heard another word. Don’t know if I have coverage or not. Not sure I want to do business with the company who tells me my files and underwriting and they’ll get back to me when they make a decision. In reading through the reviews, this appears to be a very common problem that either you never hear back from them while your file is an underwriting, you do hear back from them and they cancel your policy before it’s even issued for underwriting reasons, or lastly policy just shows up in the mail with no explanation as to why it took so darn long to get there, and you find that the effective date of your coverage is weeks after you applied. This is very poor insurance underwriting to say the least. Wondering what individual state departments of insurance would think of these tactics. Also seems to be a common theme where after you have a claim, even though your policy is still active, they’ll cancel your coverage and then invite you to reapply only to add multiple exclusions based upon prior claims.
Update, will give another star. Never heard from them until I got a policy in the mail. Maybe I missed something but in the whole process I never saw anywhere that said there was a waiting period for a brand new kitten that had been to the vet for a vet check prior to purchasing. Long story, short, When I got my policy, it was dated 14 days after I submitted my application. We’ll see what happens when I take my kitten in for a neuter in the next couple of months. I’m still not happy with the lack of transparency, and follow through to let me know that they had received my paperwork and that my policy would begin on a certain date. I’m not holding much hope that this company will pay its claims without a fight. Will update in a few months.
Healthy Paws - 433% Increase - From $268 to $1,430
I’ve been a loyal Healthy Paws customer since 2017. This month, my premium jumped from $268 to $1,430 — a 433% increase. No coverage changes. Just a new underwriter (Westchester Fire). Illegal? Perhaps. Unethical? Definitely. Shame on you, Healthy Paws.
MetLife - THE ABSOLUTE WORST. TRY PETSBEST PET INSURANCE.
THIS IS THE MOST ABSOLUTE. HORRIBLE. PET INSURANCE COMPANY! I have insured my dog since she was eight weeks old and have been with MetLife Pet Insurance for a while. I have experienced superb service from other companies, but unfortunately, not with MetLife Pet Ins.
I submitted a claim on May 5, 2025, then I was contacted that in order to process this claim, they would need an additional documentation, which I ordered. Once received, I tried to upload it to the ACTIVE claim; however, one is unable to do so resulting in filing a whole new claim. This was May 5, 2025. Today July 21, 2025. I have sent numerous emails only to get an auto response that more information is needed to process the claim...I called, no answer. I reached out again the other day, nada. I uploaded the document requested of me to the emails (approximately 10) and still nada. Furthermore, For obvious reasons, I canceled my policy June 1, the actual day the payment was debited from my account. Guess what? No REFUND WAS PROCESSED to date. Nor was the claim ever processed, so 2.5 months later I finally got someone on the phone after being disconnected from the previous representative.
Now, to be fair, I have worked with them in the past and never experienced this time-consuming and aggravating process. I like to take away lessons from situations such as this. Take it for what it is, here is my input: PETSBEST INSURANCE is more affordable and offers more coverage for less. I highly recommend making a switch or if you are researching pet insurance companies, at the very least, consider PETSBEST Pet Insurance to save yourself months of aggravation!
MetLife - Price increases dramatically
I’ve been a loyal customer since year one, and I’m disappointed to see the price increase so drastically. My premium started at $$79.64, then up to be $110.30 on year2 then doubled to $169.91 the following year, which feels excessive. When I reached out, I was told the increase wasn’t due to my claim history, but rather my location. However, I haven’t moved since I first signed up, so that explanation doesn’t make much sense to me. I hope the company reconsiders how these pricing changes are handled, especially for long-term customers.
