the insurance company - Insurance question
I am a trusting person. I will state this upfront.
We switched home insurance carriers last year. I was told by someone that they discontinued our vinyl siding and to purchase or look for a matching endorsement for it when I switched.
I talked with the insurance salesman who I asked if they have a matching endorsement for vinyl siding. He said “it is not needed”
i then asked clearly “if one side of our house is damaged and the siding has been discontinued you will replace all of the siding correct?” His response was “yes we will make it right, we will make you whole”
Low and behold. Massive hail damage to one side of our house. Our siding is discontinued. Insurance says we will just try and match it to the best we can.
Is there any recourse here?
Trumpanion - Overwhelming options
I was hopping someone could help me. My family is adopting a puppy this April and we want to get insurance coverage for it. I have read reviews online and here and it seems like people don’t like most companies because, shockingly, insurance companies don’t want to pay up. So I guess what I’m asking is does anyone have a recommendation for a company that reliably pays claims? I’m not too concerned about reimbursement times a month is fine, but I just don’t want to get scammed. It seems Trumpanion is very popular but also is 2x the cost of everyone else, To the tune of 1200 a year.
It seems from the research I have done, Lemonaid, Figo, Fetch and Met Life have plans I could work with. Fetch being the cheapest and covering initial visits which is cool
But concerning that it’s so cheap.
Also is 10,000 annual coverage sufficient? I live in Seattle suburbs and have no idea what stuff costs.
Thanks for any insight you all might have.
AMWINS - Goosehead and Amwins Homeowners insurance
Couple of questions if I may...
I recently used Goosehead to get home and car insurance. They said that AMWINS would be best for homeowners insurance. Has anyone heard of AMWINS? Are they any good? Anyone had any claims with them?
Also, I just received a notice of a rescind of cancel notification from both of them. I never received notice of cancellation and that is concerning to me. They stated that the original reason was "underwriting". It does state that there was no laps in coverage. I will call them later today but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this as to what happened.
I live in DFW and the house is paid off if that means anything.
Lively - Why does Lively HSA not allow me to open an account?
I am trying to move my HSA out of Fidelity for a previous job, since they will start charging fees. When I tried to open a Lively HSA, I got this message. Has anyone else run into this before? Any theories why I might be getting this?
\---
Thank you for reaching back out to us.
After careful consideration by our accounts team, we have determined that we will be unable to open an account for you and have no further information we can provide.
There is no further need to contact us about this as our decision is final. We consider this issue closed and will not be responding further.
Thank you for considering Lively, we truly wish you the best at finding another HSA provider.
EDIT: I just contacted Fidelity, there are actually no fees! I'll be keeping it as it is.
Lemonade - Grandma got dementia so we took over care of dog- pet insurance won’t change name on insurance without losing pre-existing care- advice appreciated
My grandma has a dog and we helped her get insurance for him a while back, but her dementia has progressed quickly and pretty dramatically so my mom has taken over his care. (My grandma lives with my parents so she’s always had a big part in his care but now my mom has him full time).
We have Lemonade. My mom told them what was going on and they said they could add my mom as a co-owner, but then she couldn’t make adjustments or any changes to his policy. Otherwise, she would have to cancel his account completely and start a new one under her name. She wanted to cancel it and start it under her name since sadly my grandma will not get better and she wants to add dentals to his plan, but he did have anal gland issues this year and lemonade said that if he has anal gland issues in the future they would no longer be covered under my moms plan because they would be considered a pre-existing condition now.
Just looking for advice on what to do. It doesn’t seem fair, but I know insurance isn’t fair lol. Should we look at other insurance options? Or just add my mom as a co-owner? The anal gland issue was expensive so we don’t want to lose coverage on that if it comes back but also it sucks that my grandma has something we couldn’t predict nor control and now we’re in this predicament. Any advice would be helpful!!
Blue Cross - Marketplace dental coverage that doesn’t really exist
Location, North Carolina
Our family has a marketplace health plan with Blue Cross. It includes free dental for children under 18. I bought a marketplace dental insurance for my husband and I but didn’t include the kids because they had the free dental on the health plan.
I have been trying to make dental appointments for the kids, and of course, there is a very limited number of dentists on the list that are in network. I have called a couple to make appointments and I keep getting told the same story. Blue Cross completely ghosts the dental office when they try to submit claims so the dentists won’t bother billing them anymore.
If I had known this, I would have just added the kids to the dental policy I purchased for my husband and myself. Of course open enrollment is over so it’s too late now and they haven’t really had a change in circumstance except that their coverage only exists on paper and is impossible to use. Now my only option is to pay out-of-pocket for their dental care.
Anyone else experienced this? What are my options?
Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield - hospital is charging me 17000$-and no one really knows why
i visited the ED back in march 2024 and ended up being placed in observation and let go the next day.
i’ve been dealing with an insurance/billing issue since then. i have anthem BCBS under an employee sponsored health plan (Union Construction Workers). the hospital i visited was In Network. for some reason, the hospital is billing me around 17000$, stating that my claim was denied due to code *00897, which requests complete medical history from the member.
the member being myself, so i contact my employer sponsored health plan claims specialist, and she has no idea “why they would want that [referring to medical history]” and ensures me the claim is covered and sends over the EOB. which states patient responsibility is $1500, and not $17000. she lets me know that UCW paid mercy back in july.
anyway, fast forward to november i am getting billed $17000 again. i call billing, they escalate my case, and remove the $17000 charge from my statement. i call UCW again, and they let me know the claim has been paid. billing is telling me anthem denied the claim again. they ask me to resend the EOB.
fast forward to now, i am getting billed 17000$ AGAIN! i call billing, they tell me that the anthem claim is denied. i ask them if they looked at the EOB. they say yes, i ask them if we can go through the EOB together. we look through my UCW EOB and the billing employee states that my ANTHEM EOB was reviewed and for some reason my UCW EOB was not reviewed but it was received after i sent it in November. he agrees, i should only owe $1500 per the UCW EOB. but anthem is denying my claim still.
i call UCW again. the rep tells me that she is now contacting anthem directly. after 9 months of issues we are finally contacting anthem. and there is no way for myself to contact anthem, only through the UCW representative.
i am giving birth in about a month, im in a rush to get this handled. i would accept any help that i can.
i have looked through the itemized bill, UCW EOB, and claim on anthems website and reviewed for errors. i noticed that there is one charge (for $9.50) that insurance covered that is listen on both the itemized bill and anthems claim, however not listed at all on the UCW EOB.
but i, a not insurance expert, does not know what this means.
please please help if you can! i have already talked to my states insurance department, which they were confused w my situation and could not help. i also have requested proof of payment from UCW, as well as a 3 way phone call between UCW, myself, and billing.
Insurance company - Insurance cut me a check and then I had repairs but did I pay double $500 deduction
I swiped the side of my car (no lien) and Insurance company adjustor said take pics and put in portal. Said damage was worth$3700 and cut a check minus the $500 deduction; $3200. As I checked with bodyshops I deposited check as one guy said it doesn't hurt with final claim. Several weeks later used an insurance approved shop, over a month to repair. That shops original estimate was $5800 then final $7,700. So they charged me a $500 deductible and then Said to pay them the $3200 from insurance check. But Insurance check already took out $500 deductible and the shop just charged my CC $500. Shouldn't it be $2700 I pay Sthem (3200-minus $500) Insuirance already held theduditble and then I get charged by the body shop too?
Allstate - AllState denying hail claim - what should I do next?
Had 2 roofing companies come and inspect the roof for hail damage, and they both claimed there is hail damage. However, Allstate insurance denied the claim, saying there is 0 hail damage. I sent the report from roofing companies, but they deny it's due to hail. I tried requesting a different adjuster, but Allstate won't budge. Any recommendations on how to proceed with insurance? I have heard I need to hire a public adjuster. Is there a certified inspection I can do that has more value than a roofer's? This is in texas.
Aetna - Any way to negotiate the bill amount?
I need advice on how to negotiate a bill that I received from my insurance. I had a neck and upper shoulder pain for more than a week and I went to a specialist. He did some routine range of motion checks and just advised to avoid the gym and use a heat pack.
Now I see I've got a bill where Aetna was billed $1155 for the office visit and my bill is $375.76 which is around 30%. This seems like a very high charge for a 10 minute routine appointment.
Is there any way I can either ask for a reduction on what Aetna was billed or what they charged me? The latter seems less likely since I haven't hit my deductible yet
Edit: This is NY state and the appointment was at NYU Langone
