Have an issue with your insurance?
Let everyone know!
Insurance companies are constantly reviewing us. Are we too old? Do we live in the wrong place? Is our credit score high enough? Well, now it's time to turn the tables. Do you charge too much? Will you pay my claim quickly? Is your coverage worse than it seems? We can review you too.
Embrace Pet Insurance - Felt like retaliation
I’ve had Embrace for 9 years. The rates appear to go up yearly. A few months ago i sent a note telling them their automated system misdiagnosed my dog’s problem. Almost immediately someone at Enbrace contacted my veterinarian and requested my dog’s entire medical record. I was cc’d. They then denied my claim of lameness for reimbursement of Carprofen, stating that the med was for treating a pre-existing diagnosis.
Trupanion - We have had your insurance for about 5+…
We have had your insurance for about 5+ years now. We have attempted to submit only three claims: two were denied and one paid for around $300. Our premiums have continued to increase every 6 months even though we have not used your services. I understand the cost of everything is going up BUT I feel like this is absolutely horrible. We started less than $100, now we are almost paying $200/month.
MetLife Pet Insurance - Very long delays with submitted claims.

MetLife Pet Insurance - Too much time processing claims and…
Too much time processing claims and your Premiums are unacceptable which has caused me to cancel my policy.
Trupanion - Very disappointed that my dog's care…is "Alternative" and not covered
Very disappointed that my dog's care for her recent diagnosis of cancerous fibroid is not being covered at a holistic vet. The ozone therapy is "alternative" and only covered with an additional rider that needed to be purchased at onset of policy 12 years ago! This falls under "things not covered" Naturopathy, that I should have anticipated needing or knowing that this therapy would fall under this. Ironic thing is that if I had chosen a riskier surgery for my pup- it would have cost thousands more in claims but would have been covered. Make it make sense....??? My premiums started at $30ish/mon and now well over $60/mon in 12 years with no claims and NOW that it's needed... not paying for her therapy that can help her.
Paw Protect - PawProtect - Incompetent & Unreliable!
This is the most disorganized, incompetent company I have ever dealt with. They constantly give wrong or incomplete information, conveniently leaving out critical details. Then you have to call back, wait on hold forever, speak to a different agent or supervisor (whom you’ll likely never speak to again), and try to get the correct information.
Pet Insurance - Pre-Existing Conditions
I thought I read when I was first signing up for my policy that "pre-existing conditions" did not matter. I took all the time to sign up for insurance, paid the premiums, only to discover that pre-existing conditions is excluded from my coverage. I will be cancelling my coverage as the main reason to purchase insurance for my dog was to help cover VERY expensive costs for testing for something that we don't know what it is.
ASPCA Pet Insurance - The worst experience ever.
The worst experience ever.
Trupanion - HUGE Annual Increases-Per Diagnosis Deductibles-No App Now
When I got this insurance 3 years ago I'd seen my boss have it and it only went up a few dollars. After I got it, it went from $175 to $290 a month. I increased my per diagnosis deductible to lower costs, then the next year it went from $242 to $389 a month! Like what the actual F? With that and the ridiculous per diagnosis deductible, I can't even afford to take him to the vet. Yes, they will pay the vet directly, but other than specialists and emergency, I have yet to find a vet that uses their software. I got the insurance specifically because they always charge at the age you sign them up, supposedly to keep it from increasing as they age, but mine has increased like crazy. It's much more than I paid with my last dog whose policy went up yearly as he aged. I also chose them because they pay directly, but many vets don't do that. I pay extra for coverage that's standard with most companies. With my last dog I had Healthy Paws which had a 90% reimbursement and a $100 annual deductible. I never had any issues with them and if it was a scheduled procedure, they would pay the vet directly. I left them with my new dog to avoid the annual increases, but I got screwed because trupanion has increased more than my other policy did and I had that one for around 8 years until my boy died. Now I feel like I'm stuck because anything he's been seen for or anything even mentioned, whether he had that issue or not, will be considered pre-existing. My renewal is coming up in October, and I'm terrified. All of my friends that get pets come to me for help getting insurance, and I do not even look at trupanion. The one friend in the beginning that did sign up switched when they sent her overpriced renewal notice. I'll just say, I've never had an issue getting paid, but I never once had an issue with Healthy Paws either, and it's much better paying an annual deductible than paying one every time you go to the vet for something new. That's also how they get you...if you go in for something you already paid the deductible on and they find a new issue, trupanion will make you pay a new deductible even though you already satisfied it for the reason you scheduled the visit. I have two other dogs, and they do not have trupanion. I'd be homeless if all my dogs were with them. There are so many companies that cost so much less and cover the same stuff and even more, like exam fees. If they don't do something soon, they will continue to lose people. Just for fun I priced our new dog, and trupanion cost three times more for less coverage that the other companies I looked at. They wanted $389 a month while others cost $98-$140, paid out 90%, and covered exam fees and acupuncture, etc without having to pay an extra monthly fee. DO BETTER! Stop lining your pockets with people's per diagnosis deductibles. You are literally the only company doing this. On top of that, there's not even a working app now? I just got my renewal and it's gone up 48%. Bye bye Trupanion. Spot is $146
Trupanion - In the final analysis, just too expensive vs the competition.
Trupanion was the recommended service when we got our Maine Coon kitten from a breeder last year - it seemed good but pricy -and he's a healthy kitten so we've never had to file a claim ( and we knew upfront they would not cover his neutering last spring). Well, we got a shock message a few days ago that our premium would be going up 35%. Trupanion must have gotten complaints so they mailed an explanatory letter that we got today but apparently their printer ran out of ink so the only readable section was "new premium -$96" in blue ( can you say poor optics?). So we added him to the policy for our other cats with a different provider who has been great so far - less than half the cost. Unless your Vet does direct billing with Trupanion, these folks are just not worth it.
