ASPCA - The responses I have gotten.
The responses I have gotten.. I added a pet months ago, paid for the year, did so thru the app but he is not there. I used a different email, shouldn’t be a problem, it is, I’ve called numerous times emailed numerous times only to be told it will be taken care of immediately and available in a few days, they would be in the same account….. STILL NOT ON THE SAME ACCOUNT! How difficult is it? I verified all my information and I’m so over this insurance. I can’t submit claims due to this. Look elsewhere.
Embrace - Paid Only After Pressure – Serious Concerns About Practices
I’ve been an Embrace customer for a couple of years, and my recent experience was eye-opening.
When my dog needed urgent spinal surgery, the company initially denied basic diagnostic claims. They pointed to a temporary limp from hard play 18 months ago as a chronic spinal condition. The worst part is they added that condition after providing me a complete medical history that had no orthopedic pre existing conditions. They denied the claims then added the pre existing condition. Only after I escalated to executives, filed complaints with the Georgia Department of Insurance and the NAIC, and involved USAA (who recommended them) did they reverse course and eventually approve over $9,000 in claims.
Along the way I documented:
• Post-claim underwriting – adding new “pre-existing” items after issuing a clean medical history.
• Burden-shifting – language in their policy that tries to make customers prove a negative before coverage is restored.
• Misrepresentation of a medical record – statements about when they received my vet’s files don’t match the written evidence.
• Overbroad exclusions – attempting to block all future skin conditions based on two benign bumps.
Yes, they ultimately paid, but only after weeks of pressure. I’ve submitted formal complaints to regulators so they can evaluate whether these practices meet Georgia’s insurance-standards.
Pet owners deserve straight dealing, not shifting explanations after you’ve already paid for care. I will be looking for a new provider for my younger dog.
Spot - I enrolled a new cat
I enrolled a new cat, my family, and added a plan. Long story short I received some emails and I had a lot of questions concerning how I and what process I had to go through in order to get insurance. I called several times and I kept getting a lady that did not speak English well and any question that I had. I’m sure she was reading from a manual on what she should answer. I follow spot on TikTok and sent a message and I did get a call back and the issue got taken care of. I have been a customer for I’m sure at least two years with one cat I added you guys because I feel safe with my cat having you as insurance.
Embrace - Terrible company
Embrace has every single document on my dog since birth. I've sent them this information twice but my most recent claim has been sitting in "pending Medical records" for over three weeks. I've cancelled my dealings with them. Terrible to deal with. I've had enough. I'd give them a negative star rating if I could.
Pumpkin - My question was never answered as to…
My question was never answered as to how do I report visits to Pumpkin for reimbursement. Maybe if someone would contact me with an answer I could give a better rating. If not, I’ll be cancelling with Pumpkin and looking elsewhere for pet insurance. The amount I’m paying in insurance monthly would be better used as savings for when my boys need to visit the vet.
Nationwide - Insurance is great but gets very…
Insurance is great but gets very expensive for old purebred dogs. Their website is a bit useless. I've been kicked out of it for two months because of some widespread problem they apparently had, and now nobody can fix the issue and get me access. I've called six times - always told it will be fix but it never is. They do give you a way to submit a claim without the site, but I can't see status of past claims and when I call about an unpaid claim, sometimes they say there's no record of the claim.
For a company the size of Nationwide, you'd think they could fix a data issues with their site, but they can't. Be cautious - maybe look for better options.
Trupanion - I feel that I should have gotten more…
I feel that I should have gotten more back for Molly
I have been paying for over 12 years
it would be nice when you a get a reply you reply to my dog..her name is Molly NOT Holly
Nationwide - It is 7 years I have Nationwide pet…
It is 7 years I have Nationwide pet insurance for my rabbits. All over the years they made an unbelievable increase of the price from $11 to $70-80 a month especially for old rabbits with $250 annual deductible, but the annual refund for everything (except wellness) was 70% of the veterinarian invoice until $10.000 per year. Well, now Nationwide replaced this policy with a very poor one: only 50% of the veterinarian invoice until $3000 annual refund for illness but they kept $250 deductible.
On this way they will penalize small/exotic pet to prioritize dogs and cats. With this big change people maybe be discouraged to adopt an exotic pet from a shelter. Very very sad and disappointed !
Trupanion Canada - Here’s my experience with Trupanion:
Here’s my experience with Trupanion:
German Shepherd puppy, enrolled at 7 weeks old, no pre-existing conditions.
Year 1: $86/m, $500 deductible
Year 2: $88/m, $500 deductible
Year 3: $105/m, $500 deductible
Year 4: $103/m, $500 deductible
Year 5: $66/m, $1000 deductible (I raised the deductible from $500 to $1000 to lower the monthly payment, which increased my out-of-pocket costs in the event of an emergency)
Year 6: $74/m, $1000 deductible
Year 7: $94/m, $1000 deductible
Year 8: $101/m, $1000 deductible
After 8 years with Trupanion: I started at $86/m with a $500 deductible in Year 1. By year 8 I’m paying $101/m with a $1000 deductible and carrying more risk.
Take it for what it is. Just providing transparency for anyone looking for coverage. Hope it helps.
Embrace - why claims take 30plus days from…
why claims take 30plus days from submission to authorization [and longer to pay] is beyond comprehension. and why embrace won't allow providers to file the claims directly is also beyond comprehension [except that they are counting on the insured to not file claims at all or not timely].
