GEICO - 1 month old car hit on passenger door, GEICO asking to take the claim on my policy even as person accept his fault
Hello Everyone, My car was hit from side by another person backing out in school parking. He accepted his fault and gave me his insurance and DL. Both of us have GEICO so thought it would be easy claim. When I put the claim, Geico reached out saying he has coverage issues and asked to use my policy for damage repair as No fault even though his policy showed active from 02/01/2025 - 08/01/2025 and my car being hit on 3/28/2025. GEICO mentioned it would be difficult in case person doesn't pay. How do I proceed, and what about the diminished value as GEICO saying if claim is put on my policy, GEICO will not pay Diminished claim. What are my options, can someone please suggest as car is just 1 month old. There is big dent on the passenger side. How can someone insurance shows active from Feburary but they will not pay. Appreciate your advice. Thank you.
Nationwide - Nationwide no longer on our side
After spending Friday with my 5 yo shihpoo in the ER with newly diagnosed IVDD, I went to submit my $600 claim only to discover my Wellness policy that I have had for the past 5 years was “expired”. I contacted Nationwide today and was informed that the policy is “no longer carried in your area and you need to reapply”. Now my dog has pre-existing conditions. I don’t remember receiving any correspondence regarding this (my policy was on autopay every month and canceled on May 1). Anyone else in a similar boat?
I know Nationwide has been discussed ad nauseum, so my apologies if this is redundant.
Navient - Being overcharged with a structured settlement
Location: Washington state, US
I have a structured settlement with Navient from 2020 that keeps my payments at a specific rate for the duration of the loan. With the transfer to MOHELA processing payments, they have not been charging me the correct amount. I have notified the contact that I’m required to coordinate with several times. She has responded each time but it has not been fixed.
I have only been submitting the agreed upon amount which means I am under paying and also cannot set up auto pay. I’m concerned this could impact my credit, but also if I miss a payment the settlement goes away so I really want to be able to autopay.
What can I do here? Are there any legal repercussions from their side of the agreement if they keep over charging me? Or is this just my burden to deal with?
State Farm - Can I sue someone after one year of accident?
About an year ago, I was rear ended at a stop sign by a Truck. I did not call the police as I was in a shock and didn't think through it. However, the person agreed it's his fault and shared with me his insurance details and I too the photos. The next day when the rental company looked at the damages they asked for the insurance details and only then I realised the other party's insurance was expired. The rental company used my insurance for the claims. When I called the party that hit me he said he would pay out of his pocket for the expenses but ghosted me since then. I was very new to the US then and hence did not know the legal options I had.
I just saw a post today that someone got sued after an year. Can I still sue them after one year with only images of the incident and the person's expired insurance?

Admiral - 18 months since accident and still no excess back!!
Location: UK
I had an accident in December of 2023, which was third parties fault totally. Unfortunately they decided to completely ignore all correspondence from my insurance company and their own for as long as they could with deadlines, and drag this whole process right out, then at the last minute dispute it. This went on and on back and forth until November 2024 (almost a year after the accident and after the threat of court proceedings) when they decided to admit fault at last, and agree to pay. The solicitors that took over the claim for us emailed to let us know, there will be no court and our excess will be returned to us shortly, great! Except it’s April 2025, and we’ve still received nothing, the last email reply from solicitor I received was in January, telling me the third parties solicitor had assured them they had requested payment from third party. Since then radio silence from solicitors and no reply. I know it’s only £400 excess but it’s a matter of principle to us and with the current cost of living we definitely need this money back! Does anybody have any legal advice or insurance advice? As I thought admiral (third party insurer) would have to refund us our excess within a certain timeframe surely..? 18 months is mad! Thank you everybody in advance for your help, you’re all amazing!!
Fetch - Fetch crazy price increase: would you recommend changing insurance and if so, any company recommendations?
Hi everyone. I have a 6 year old terrier mix that's been insured with Fetch since I adopted him at 5 months old. He's had 4 claims all under $200 in all these years. 2 for ear issues, 1 for diarrhea and 1 for a scrape on his leg. No claims in the Iast two years. I started paying $35 / month and now they want to increase my premium from $71 to $117 which is absolutely crazy!
I currently have no annual limit with a 90% coverage and $250 deductible. I have no problem bringing down the annual limit to 20-25k, 80% coverage and a higher deductible to decrease my rate but my concern is if he's only 6 right now and Fetch is jacking up prices like this, even if I reduce coverage I'm afraid I'll end up with a crazy premium in just a couple of years! Also, I had another dog insured by them and we spent 25k with her last year. She unfortunately passed away but now I wonder if that is playing a role with how much they are increasing my terrier mix rate since they were both under the same account (I read someone here in Reddit had something like this happening with Fetch).
I'd love to hear experiences of people switching insurance specially in regards to coverage of pre existing conditions and also, if anyone has recommendations of other insurance companies I'd love to hear your experience too (especially in regards to rate increases and claims). Thank you!
Intact - $500 a month for commercial auto insurance
I’m 23 buying my first car. It’s a generic 2007 Pontiac wave and I want to do uber eats with it. I got a quote from Intact and he said it would be $800 down and $500 and change a month. This feels insanely high, even for commercial insurance. Any advice? Edit: I am a new driver so i understand it’s going to be a bit higher.
insurance carrier - How to rent-out a low-power electric pontoon boat as optional feature at my lakefront short term rental?
I am purchasing a lakefront second home that I will use primarily as a short term rental in PA (and will use about 10% of the time personally and the home will be in my name). The sellers are transferring to me a low-power electric pontoon boat to go along with the sale. They currently also rent the home and pontoon boat as an optional add-on. The boat rental has been very popular for them and has generated a significant amount of additional rental income that I'd like to reproduce. I spoke to them about how they insure the boat and themselves from liability while renters use the boat. They provided the name of an insurance carrier that they use for the home policy and indicated the same carrier provides a personal umbrella policy that they use to cover themselves for the boat rental.
As it turns out, I use the same insurance carrier so I reached out to my agent about getting similarly set-up. However, my agent, after consulting with underwriters, told me that not only do they want nothing to do with covering the boat when used by renters, but that they will not even insure the home as long as the boat is on the premises and now require proof of sale of the boat before they will insure the home even if we were to forbid renters' use of the boat.
I'm suspecting that the sellers are operating a very risky operation where they didn't disclose everything to their carrier and they would not be covered in the event of an incident.
So, I'm looking for advice for how I may be able to rent the home and the boat but still be legitimately covered by insurance.
It was suggested to me that perhaps I could start an LLC, sell the boat to the LLC, and then operate the boat rental arm through the LLC. However, a brief search through chatgpt seems to indicate that because I would be closely tying the optional boat rental into the rental of the home, that I would be potentially stepping into all sorts of issues and the LLC would not function to "limit liability" as intended in its name.
Has anyone found a solution to this and could share their experience/advice for how to make this a reality?
**TLDR: How do I get liability insurance to cover me renting a low-power electric pontoon boat as an optional add-on feature for the renters of my lakefront short term rental home?**
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois - Why am I paying so much?
My husband and I signed up for BCBS of Illinois PPO+ plan through his work this year. I started seeing a physiatrist who was in network. When my claim was submitted, they only approved a discount from $360 to $219 leaving me having to pay $219 out of pocket. I previously had United Healthcare from my last company and with that insurance my physiatry appointments were only $30. I have read through our policy agreement but have to admit, I have no idea what I am reading. Can someone help explain what is different between my currently BCBS plan that only approves a discount vs other plans who only make you pay the co-pay? Thank you!
GEICO - Could separate auto policy for 17F reduce premium?
I currently have an auto policy with only my teenage daughter (17F) after removing my STBX from the policy, but I feel like the premium for my car is higher than it should be and I'm wondering if there are any ways to reduce the premium. I am a 40M with a very clean driving record, my daughter had a claim last October where she hit a fire hydrant and the repair was \~$10k or so (no meaningful property damage to the hydrant). I drive a 2021 Tesla Model 3 and she drives a 2017 Audi A4 that her grandmother gave her. Total monthly premium with GEICO is $548 for my car and $366 for her car. I believe the average Model 3 insurance rate in Colorado should be closer to $300/month and I'm just trying to think of ways to lower my premium. Is it possible to separate policies and save money if I make it so that she can't drive my car and doesn't need to be insured for that? Any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated!
